No I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. It's a real question. Some people ordered right when it was released and got theirs right away, so I was just wondering why other's are taking so long to ship.
No-one had received theirs "right away", especially if you look at the almost 600 pages of this thread. From the time they were able to be ordered, everyone was getting a 6-8 week shipping delay on those Macs. If anything, those who ordered early ended up with a 3 week delay at the earliest, which were those people who reviewed the Macs. But no-one got them "right away".
And as everyone already mentioned about delays in shipping, most of the models ordered
were not base models. They were all BTO until Apple was able to get some stock of the more common non-base models out to their warehouses, so all orders had to be shipped from China.
Now, cross that with the fact that with lining up the ships in two separate lines, those lines would still be a good 100 to 150 miles long of ships waiting to dock at the Port of Long Beach (the busiest US shipping port on the west coast), we're stuck with a lot of shipping and logistics constraints. And that isn't just for tech; all durable equipment, appliances, clothing, the entire lot are all stuck with those same constraints.
Because of those constraints, prices have gone UP for a lot of things. A prime example is how much this year's Macs cost compared to 2020 or 2019. Hell, my MBA when I bought it new was $1600; look at the MBA now. The video card I bought for my PC in 2014 has actually gone UP in value; this year's comparable card is already at the $1000 range... I paid $199 for it in 2014.
So yes, supply constraints, COVID, and all Macs basically being BTO are causing the delays, and that has been known ever since the COVID pandemic started.
