I too am curious to see what their intentions are with the mini. Will they be holding off upgrading it until the next generation “consumer“ chip, the M2, and use that, or perhaps at that point give people the option to put the “pro“ M1/M2 Pro/Max in it, or what?
I mean if they can shove the highest end SoC they’ve developed so far into a MacBook, they can easily put it in a box the size of the mini and still not have major concerns about thermal and performance constraints. It’s almost like they might be eventually positioning the mini as being a truly versatile option. Select whatever strength chip you want, whatever storage, while being able to use whatever keyboard and mouse and display you want.
