Exactly what I'm seeing, same times and all.

Did you order anything else at the same time? Mine's heading to Daventry to meet up with a DVI - video adapter.

Is Apple beating the 3-4 week shipping time for CTO 2.16 MBPs??? I just ordered... estimated ship date is March 22... well worth the wait.

9:13 AM Delivered SHORT HILLS, NJ

Short Hills? Lame!
(Err... Chatham pride, or something. Ah, forget it, I live in MN now, and it beat good ol' Jersey any day.)

Battery Life:

I'm sitting in a cafe, trying to run down the battery (following the calibration instruction.) I'm listening to music, typing a paper, IMing, and surfing the net (wireless), bluetooth off. The screen is really easy to read even at 50% - but I have somewhere to be soon, so I'm trying to get the battery to drain faster. Even at 75% brightness, the battery is holding up pretty well. It isn't super great, but really, it is in no way bad, and for most people's needs, I'd say it really is fine.

It does heat up a bit, but I had it on my lap for a while and it wasn't that bad. guess what I'm saying to anyone reading this, worrying about others' complaints - don't worry. This machine was worth every dollar.

Photoshop Works Great

I don't know what they were talking about when everyone was lamenting the fact that Photoshop would not be Universal Binary until 2007. I've been using Photoshop CS all day today on my brand-spankin new MBP 2.0 and it is zippy as hell.

did you used to run photoshop on a powerbook? Just curious what the speed diff is from a powerbook to the macbook for photoshop?

I ordered the CTO 2.16 the day it was announced also with the 7200rpm drive. I have a ship date of MArch 15.... well worth the wait!

I'm sure they did think about it. :p

The magnet probably isn't that strong, and the hard drive will be a few inches away. However, if you were to put a credit card or iPod right next to it, it may wipe it. I would say unlikely, but probably worth being careful.

The data on the hard drive is not effected by the magnet that is proven to be wrong considering there are 2 realy strong Magnets in every HD

Studio 8?

Has anyone thrown Studio 8 on their new MBP? If so how is the speed? My 12" 1.5 PB died in a flood(frozen pipe burst and flooded my basment) and trying to figure out what to replace it with.

Who knows... I've only see one dude who says he got his. I was an education order plus they wouldn't upgrade my original feb 1st order. So my CTO 2.16 is not here until March 17th. Ugh!

hmm keep talking!
this is what is keeping me from ordering a macbook pro.

 I don't want to sound mean towards apple or anything but does anyone know how to check the hard drive on my MBP to make sure i got the 7200 RPM hard drive? Well, other than looking up the Hitachi drive online by its make/model? I also couldn't find it in system profiler, at least not its spin-speed... Any help would be much appreciated! :)

P.S. Right now I'm letting my MBP "sleep for 5 hours or more" in the battery calibration process, it is killer having to use this ol' centrino laptop in the meantime - once you got dual-2 and OSX, can be tough to go back:rolleyes:

Edit: I believe it was a hatachi, but others got seagates so maybe mine is one to and I have forgotten in this period of roughly 5 hours waiting for it to sleep long enough to calibrate the battery. So it could be a seagate but I thought I read hitachi, is it possibly for apple to use different drives in different models? For example, a 7200 seagate in one persons and a 7200 hatachi in mine. I could be very wrong, I'll try to write back tomorrow to clear up this mess I've made, sorry:(

Are all the 7200 drives Hitachi?

I was hoping they would be from Seagate.

Does anyone know?

I'm still waiting on my MBP order through Amazon. They've had the delivery estimate listed as April 3/4 since I first ordered it at the end of January.

Does anyone have any sense for Amazon's real delivery date (at least I'm hoping that April 3 isn't real!), or how other resellers are doing with supplies?

If it really doesn't appear that I'll get this sooner than April 3, I'll move my order to Apple or elsewhere! Thoughts on where I might have some hope

yes, if you take the model number, for instance:

Capacity: 111.79 GB
Model: TOSHIBA MK1234GSX
and go to google... one of the results should be a specs page that usually has the spindle speed

for instance: http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=7574

ps: I am not happy it isn't a seagate... I guess I should have gone with the 100GB 5400rpm to get the seagate, but who'd have known :(

How slow did people THINK it was gonna go?
Photoshop 7 is still really fast on my G4 iMac 800mhz
as long as I'm not running TOO much other stuff at
the same time, just maybe Dreamweaver, Safari,
iChat, and iTunes!

Anyway, was photoshop slow on G4 Powerbooks
or something? Am I out of the loop? Having more
than doubled my processor speed and moved to a
dual-core, i don't really think the loss (or gain?) of
speed is going to be that huge. Considering the
fact that it is already running great, what are people
worried about?

I just got the shipping number for my 1.83GHz MacBook Pro! Hope it gets here by the end of the week, I got second day on it.

I have an April shipping date from Amazon also. Any idea what happens with the discount if we don't get the shipment by the Feb 28 cutoff for the rebate? Has anyone gotten a shipment yet from Amazon?

Just a polite warning here, that at 9am I am being very reserved with my response here.

Now I've been patient and good as I see both my own UK order & US orders being shipped on the same day.
I've been patient when hearing on your side of the pond that they are flown overnight, even at weekends, to get to you in time... To give good customer service.
I've been patient when I discovered the fine people at TNT don't use planes and that my laptop was being driven with care half way round the world.
I've been patient when I see your good selves receiving the MBP's at least 2 days before me.
I've been patient when told my laptop should now go through france and on to me by today.

Allas no. I just phoned TNT as my order status has not been updated in 24 hours. The womans response...
"It should be delivered to you on the 27th."
WTF?!?!?!?
Now I'm told its being kept in Arnhem tonight, for no apparent reason, kept in Dover by customs over the weekend, for no apparent reason, then finally delivered to me when they feel like it on monday when I can guarantee that there will be no-one in my house to sign for it.
To say I'm slightly disappointed with the standard of shipping is an understatement, I would have thought in 2006 a company would use something other then cammels perhaps to deliver a blue chip companies goods.
Grrrr...

Don't get me started on the UK couriers that Apple uses!!!

I've hardly ever had a delivery that there wasn't a problem with.

Last time I got a refund of £50 from Apple for the trouble even though it wasn't their fault.

When I ordered my Powermac a year ago, I took a day off work to receive it, and it never arrived. I phoned to query it and was told that the driver couldn't find the address so had just returned to base. They said they would try again on Monday, but I pointed out I wasn't prepared to take another day off work on the off chance the driver use a map or his mobile to try and find me - I live in the centre of Edinburgh! After 20 minutes of argument from me, they agreed to deliver on Saturday morning - despite me being repeatedly told this was impossible.

On Saturday morning I watched from my window as the driver tipped the Powermac from his truck onto the road - didn't left it, just let it fall - then kicked it onto his trolley.

The delivery before that I got sent to work, and phoned the courier to see when it would arrive. I waited at work until 6 as I'd been told it was definitely on the truck for delivery, only to call again and be told that there was no way it was out for delivery and it would be the next day.

I've found the couriers that Apple use in the UK to be slow, inefficient and utterly lacking in any concept of customer service.

Phew. Feel better for that!

I'm normally ok with them... Save for the standard "We attempted delivery but you wern't in" - when theres a car outside and lights on! Hence the "lost in time" remark in my sig.

Just gave Apple a call. Once again brilliant customer service, shes even emailing/calling me back specially (believe it when i hear it).
Her: "Your laptop is in London, should be delivered later today/tomorrow morning"
Me: "Oh right, I called TNT and they said my 'non-priority' shipment will be delivered monday"
Her: "No, all our packages are sent priority... Infact, im not sure if its in London, you may be right with Arnhem"
Me: "Thats... Umm... Cool... I know its not your fault, but 8 days for express shipping is appauling, any chance of getting it to me while its still the current model?"

A little tongue in cheek, but its getting me somewhere!

Well, mine left Shanghai on the 21st, but there's been no word since.

Reckon the camel got lost.

Of course once it gets to Europe, the camel has to pass it to the snail, which then goes on a tour of as many European countries as possible before eventually getting to me.

I'm not sounding bitter or grumpy am I????

Damned US-types with your swift deliveries ...

I have no idea what you are talking about. Although Apple no longer ship to Jersey (I will not let this one rest  ), when they did they managed to get every shipment to me in no more than 3-4 weeks of shipment date. The world is a big place and there are speed limits that must be catered to. Also I like to know that my prodcut is wordly wise and therefore it is important to me to know that it has received a little European culture on a brief tour before finally arriving at my door.

It will be with you before anyone receives their Rev B and that should be enough for you.. Some people ;)

Good point jacobj - yes, our deliveries may take much longer to get to us than our US chums, but at least they've picked up some culture and probably a sexual disease or two on the way. Can't wait to hear the stories my MBP tells me of it's European Tour. It'll be wanting to backpack to Thailand next!

No need to rush when you can take your time and enjoy the sights!
