Well, mine left Shanghai on the 21st, but there's been no word since.

Pah! You think you have it bad... 2 days without word :p

Try yours being shipped on the 19th... Probably one of the first out the factory I'd say.

Firstly, get your consignement number from apple and check out:
http://www.tnt.com/country/en_gb.html
with yes to the package originating overseas.

That's what I've been using! I never expected much from the Apple site, but TNT aren't giving me an update either.

There was briefly an entry saying "Has anyone seen Camel 23?" but that quickly got removed.

I'm moaning but the anticipation is all part of the fun!!

Its ok... Just spoke to Apple, they say the MBP is being sent as quickly as it can. They even sent a pic to prove it was on its way! Love customer service.

Woo hoo!

Camel 23 has been found and is in Amsterdam.

There's an awful lot of 'culture' to be had there though, so I'm not hopeful of a swift handover to the snail ...

Lol... Not sure if your talking about your order or mine! Mines been in Amsterdam over 24 hours now, soaking up the culture.

I'm getting the impression that we are the only two waiting for delivery? If yours comes before me I will be most aggrieved.

It may be a little drousy for a few days, but it'll soon be back up to speed. ;)

By way of comparison ... I ordered a 1gig stick of memory for the MBP from OWC in the US of A which was shipped yesterday - and I've just had a call from UPS saying it'll be delivered tomorrow.

Even with customs charges and delivery, it'll still be a fifth cheaper than the amount Crucial are charging in the UK ...

Delivery

So am I right in thinking that no-one in the UK has recieved their MPB?

I've just checked my order again and in the last hour its updated and is in amsterdam, despite it actually saying on two occasions that it had arrived in the Bristol Depot (its being deliverd to Bristol).

I was hoping it would arrive by tomorrow as i'm at uni elsewhere and am going home this weekend - not holding my breath for that though.

Battery calibration... ?

Would anyone be able to post a good link or a detailed procedure for what everyone is refering to as "battery calibration"... I think this would help a lot of people out, although i do feel a bit silly being the first person to ask this! :)

Also, Jacobj when the prices at your local re-seller are only a tiny fraction (£20-30 for a Macbook pro 1.87 @ £1260) higher than Apple uk's ex.vat price why are you so annoyed at Apple, especially when you get local service + around the same estimated wait times as UK orders, surely it would be good to support your local re-sellers as well as massive corporations ?? ;)

Obviously the principle still stands that as a massive company they should sort this kind of thing out asap, but as i understand it, this fault in their accounting systems has cost them a fortune so far and we we're lucky to get service for as long as we did - FYI this fault is due to the fact that both "Jersey" and "Channel Islands" exist in the USA - when "Jersey, Channel Islands" is entered in it causes havoc with the system due to the fact we do not pay tax and seem to exist in 2 places (that DO pay some sort of tax) at the same time!!

I work on a massive Accounting/Database application everyday and i can imagine how much hassle this could possibly cause..... maybe a software developer out there could shed a little light on any possible challenges this would uncover when developing a fix for this.. ?

Maybe it will set your mind at rest to know that iQ are on the phone everyday to Apple to get this sorted out as the only thing that Apple will release for shipping under their current account (taking into consideration they are now an "official Apple service centre"!!) are replacements for faulty parts!

...Good to know my laptop (and all at iQ) is coming from the UK's biggest Apple distributor!!!

According to the Apple Store tracking, mine made it from Amsterdam to Daventry, where it's hooking up with a cute little video adapter before heading for the Sussex Riviera.

Maybe tommorow?

Read the little book that comes with it!

Basically you do this:

1) Charge it up to 100%
2) Unplug it and use it until you get the reserve power warning
3) Keep using it until it automatically goes to sleep
4) Charge it back up to 100%.

Once callibrates use it on battery power some of the time. You might also want to repeat the above every so often (once a month or less).

My point is not intended to criticise iQ. I am happy to order through them and will continue to do so. Even when Apple were shipping to the Channel Islands I tried to encourage friends am family to shop locally. The last thing I want to see it a small Apple reseller going under for lack of local support.

Having said that, it means that we are exposed to the success or failure of a local business with no contingency in place and that worries me.

"Money for Nothing" the Remix

As sad as it is, i was thinking "I want my MBP" which somehow led me to redo the beginning for "Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits...

I want my MBP

Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it
You play with FrontRow on the MBP
The PC ain't workin' that's the way you ditch it
Upgrades for nothin' and your shipping's free
The PC ain't workin' that's the way you ditch it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain't dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb

We gotta install OSX updates
Or wait for FedEx deliveries
They've gotta move these attention getters
They've gotta move these MBP's

My aplologies if it sounded like i was insinuating that you were critisizing iQ, i certainly did not mean this.. it good to hear that you encourage locals to shop from there! Also your point is a very good one, one that i totally agree with, my point was just intended to put your mind at ease and to let you (and other "locals") know that iQ are doing everything they can to push Apple along with a fix.

I guess it just seemed to me that you were overly worried about the situation, and thought that no-one was communicating with Apple about it :)

Also i do get a bit sick of hearing people complain about a £20 price hike at iQ, especially considering the personal service and support that everyone recieves from those guys, i personally spent 4 hours with a lady last Saturday, who had never used a Mac before, to help her set HER new 17" iMac up and help her to feel more comfortable with her new foray into the land of technology...

no harm intended, and feel free to introduce yourself to us in the near future, we'll be running the iLife demo's every Saturday through March, of which i'll be demoing Garageband and bit of the OS so pop in if you have the time :)

woo hoo! (again!)

Camel 23 decided to skip the lusty, decadent delights of Amsterdam and has skipped straight to Arnhem.

It's getting closer and closer ...

1. 1115 GMT 11th Jan (Edu)

2. Kuehne & Nagel for Intl, TNT (I presume) for Europe

(I've been tracking it through the Apple Store website exclusively)

Is Apple beating the 3-4 week shipping time for CTO 2.16 MBPs??? I just ordered... estimated ship date is March 22... well worth the wait.

I got a 2.16 yesterday, but I had mine preordered since an hour after the store opened for orders January 10th.

It is *significantly* faster than my 1.67 GHz PB.

Good luck with that, and fair play to you... As I've posted before, my delivery is now due for monday for some reason. 8 days for express shipping is crazy. Mine so far:
22 Feb 2006 18:51 Arnhem Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
22 Feb 2006 11:06 Amsterdam Consignment Received At Transit Point
20 Feb 2006 18:39 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

23 Feb 2006 17:46 Northampton Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point

Finally my MBP has escaped the clutches of Arnhem, the snails/camels have done their jobs and its now on these shores! Really really really really really really hope it comes tomorrow, seeing as how little both apple and tnt knew!

I don't understand the shipping data...

This is the excerpt from the Apple tracking page:

Activity Location Date / Time (GMT)

Shipment Picked Up SHANGHAI, SH, CN 21 Feb 2006 13:15
Depart Terminal SHANGHAI, SH, CN 22 Feb 2006 11:35

and this is from the Kuehne & Nagel Website:

Date Code Status Description

22 feb 06 32 05 Flight Booked
21 feb 06 00 04 Picking confirmed, EDI received
21 feb 06 30 63 handover at supplier
21 feb 06 30 61 Consignment Booking received from supplier

First of all, why is everything always showing up with about an 24 hour delay? I mean what sense do these tracking sites make if they are behind?
And can somebody tell me when I can expect my MBP? Has it left China yet? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Grrrr

I can't wait for the store near my house to get em! I couldn't order online cause I can't have it shipped to my place and they can't shipto PO Boxes  Hopefully the store gets it soon?

Anyone goy any guesstimates on when they should have it? I've heard couple weeks and 3-4 weeks but neither seems like it's correct.

Aaarrrrgggghhhhhh!

I thought we were gonna be MBP buddies - maybe share the journey over the channel together ... but no, you had to go without me. But then mine only hit Arnhem today, and was shipped from Shanghai two days after yours.
