Well, stayed up all night last night waiting for the FedEx tracking update on my 1.83 ordered on 1/10 and apparently it has been sitting on the shanghai airport tarmac for over 36 hours. Someone needs to review their math skills, I paid for 2 day shipping and my est. arrival date on the FedEx website is 2/28. I mean REALLY, are they shipping this thing on a rice boat or what? Some have called FedEx and their excuses have been everything from bad weather to the pilot having a little too much Saki. I have my suspicions that NONE of the 1.83's have even left CN. I think that these FedEx trackers were initiated so someone could make good on their "promise" that the 1.83's would be shipped this week.
Boy, I thought that I was neurotic...

How come all of new packaging of apple products (5G iPod, MacBook Pro, nano, shuffle) are all thin? when i got my 4G iPod it came in lovely cube packaging. i guess that due to the massive sales of iPod's means that they only want to use little amounts of packaging to save on costs...

Yes, OS9 (and prior) do not support intel chips. With the coming of intel goes the support for classic apps.

Its just not necessary to have so much packaging. Where does it go when you get your product. If your like me i keep it or if you like everyone else you chuck it :D . For the other people that chuck it thats just more useless crap to put in a landfill.

FUTHER MUCKER!!
Unfortunately thats a huge loss if you have classic apps they dont make anymore...

I'm going to have to convert all of my old Aldus Pagemaker (yes, i know that REALLY OLD) files to Adobe's product... Even the conversion app is classic.

Well, time to cut myself off from the "checking these boards every 5 min" and get back to my normal life. It is just a computer after all, right? Must resist urge to go to an Apple store to get one 2 days earlier....must....resist.....Rational thought that I saved $200 with edu discount is worth a small delay slaps me back to reality.

Um, just so you know for the future, you
CAN use your student discount at an
Apple Retail Store. I'm still not sure
how many retail stores have them
in stock however, so that might be hit
and miss anyway. Also, for me, the
tax in Wisconsin is less than in IL where
I am right now, and it should be shipping
while I am in Wisconsin on spring break.
That is a savings of $22.49 which is nice.

FedEx

Hey Guys...
Just one question...
My new MBP has shipped today with FedEx and I just was wondering whether Fedex tries to get me at my home several times a day...
Cause when I'm not there the first time the Fedexdeliverer tries to get me at my home, will he tries it later the day or have I to wait until the next day???
Thnx

Yes, there's no Apple Classic on Intel Macs, but if you use an emulator, it will be possible to use classic software:

Sheepshaver (G4 emulation): http://www.gibix.net/dokuwiki/en:projects:sheepshaver
Mini vMac (hardware emulation of Mac 128k, Mac Plus, and Mac SE): http://minivmac.sourceforge.net/beta/index.html
BasiliskII (680x0 emulation): http://www.gibix.net/projects/basilisk2/

Links and info via http://www.emaculation.com/

So you're not left high and dry in regards to classic applications. Yes, Apple no longer supports it, but that doesn't mean it's the end of the road for you. Enjoy!!

From what I know about the FedEx delivery system, It is the delivery guy's responsibility to make sure you get the package and not FedEx itself, So if he doesnt get you the first try it would be in his best interest to try again if at all possible. It also depends where you live. Here in NYC its feasable to stop by several times a day, but out in the boonies it might not be very efficient to drive 6 miles for one package multiple times a day.

Any idea if Sheepshaver will actually work though? As far I've seen it is still not universal... I'm thinking since it would need to access the processor quite intesnly it wil likely fail or slow down even more through rosetta... like using an emulator to emulate an emulator...

Im Using My Mbp

I GOT IT TODAY! I'm using it right now at my college through their wireless connection. THIS THING IS AWESOME...IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! Photobooth made me laugh my ass off when i took some ugly pictures of myself with the morph effects. To everyone who doesnt yet have theirs, just hang on, cause when you get it you wont be disappointed.

Wow... They can apply your student discount. Didn't you bother to ask. All you have to show is your student id and a copy of your class schedule. They apply the discount at the store. My girlfriend did this with her laptop in Chicago when we were down there during the summer. Oh and my 1.83 just departed alaska to the states. Can't wait. Hope i get it on Monday.

Hard to do when you are a teacher, not a student. Good to know...When I took a class to demo at an Apple store, I was told that you needed to order online. I guess this has changed.

Aha! You didn't actually visit the links I posted, did you? If you had visited the Sheepshaver link, you would have seen the following:

FLASH: Port to MacOS X for Intel
An experimental port to MacOS X 10.4.4 for Intel is now available. Please see the file README.html included in the distribution for details.

:D

Go forth and enjoy, my leaden friend. ;)

You don't need a copy of your class schedule - and it's not hard to do if you're a teacher, just show your school ID. Easy as pie.

Teachers can buy at the store, too

I've bought with the educational discount at the store, through a teacher (At two different Chicago Apple stores).

All you have to do is show a school ID at the register. Note that the in-store discounts are only for hardware, and not software. Why, I have no idea.

WOW!

My estimated ship date was March 8,
but I just got my email notice that
it shipped TODAY!!! That is 12 DAYS
early! Almost two full weeks!

Is anyone else who ordered later
getting some really good shipping news?
