Interesting, so I'll be able to purchase this SDK at my local Future Shop/Best Buy at 2 price points?! I did see a pic of teh folks at he apple store taking the old SDKs down, maybe to put out the new SDK's? I just want the SDK to have anodised aluminum casing. Do you think the SDK is worth $1149?
512MB is a must for the MBP. but think of the heat that will produce! another issue to hope to be dealt with.
You know the GFX memory is mainly for textures dont you, the pipelines, gpu mhz, cpu mhz are far more important for gfx output
But when games like X-Plane use over 800MB of video memory, a bump in it will help.
minor.
I have a 384MB nvidia 8800GTS in my gaming PC, I use to have a PC Laptop with a Mobile 7600 with 512MB, there is no competition the 7600 gets stomped.
your falling for the gimmick, believe me you would rather have ati's new GPU with 256MB then last years GPU with 512MB.
I hope they will finally improve the portability of the MBP. How many years has it been with the same dimensions&weight. How many years has it been since the Ti-Powerbook? 7! How many since the aluminum? 5! I'm begging Steve for an option without the unnecessary (I know I will get chastised for this here) optical drive, so that the thing can be at least 0.2 inches and 1 pound lighter (rough estimates).
Well that's a totally different situation, that's a high end card versus a midrange, a newer generation versus an older, a desktop versus a laptop card. I'm just saying that a 512MB card would be worth paying more for than a 256MB of the same GPU.

Wikipedia said:The footprint of the 15" MacBook Pro measures 14.1 × 9.6 inches / 35.7 × 24.3 cm and it is 1.02 inches thick / 2.59 cm. It weighed 5.6 pounds / 2.54 kg until June 5, 2007, when the weight was reduced to 5.4 pounds / 2.45 kg.
The gains would be minor but apples prices would be major, your statement is poor because it would be poor of apple to pimp last years GPU in this years Products if you like gaming, a poultry 256Mb upgrade will be a kick in your balls.
A new GPU is what you want Nvidia's new 9600GT is almost a match for last years 8800GT with a big price difference, which means the 9800 range should be very fast.
0.2 inches? You are crazy if that makes a big difference to you. Compared to other laptops equally featured, this thing is like paper! And it hasn't been years with the same weight...get your facts straight.
Since the 0.2 inches is such a big deal to you, then the .2 pounds should have been big enough for you to remember.
Seriously work out. 5 pounds is squat.
...as Apple usually tends to their pro customers first, consumer customers second. It's no different for this generation with the MacBook and MacBook Pro, thus why they won't release at the same time.
Sorry, but I tend to believe the majority of people who buy MBP's are not professionals but regular old "consumers" as you put who want the best they can get whether it fits their needs or not. In the past I think Apple catered more to "professionals" but ever since the iPod their focus has shifted, so don't count on them favoring you just because your some sort of "professional."
Also, why would the SDK be showing up in store inventory?! lol

...The MacBook Pro originally released BEFORE the MacBook. The MacBook Pro replaced the PowerBook. 3 or so months later the MacBook came out, replacing the iBook, thus phasing out "i" in the notebook naming scheme. I'm sorry, but I know my stuff, and I'm by no mean "ignorant". The MacBook Pro and MacBook both originally release in early 2006. Please do your research for posting such nonsense.

Sorry, you're still suggesting Apple values its "professional" customers over the everyday "consumer." Yes, the Powerbook, then Macbook, replacing the iBook, blah, blah, I know that. That implies nothing ...but since you know what models preceded and replaced what (you really know your stuff BTW) I will just take your word for it (because, after all ...you really know your stuff.)
You're probably rightSorry if I'm being whiny. My point was really just that I'm surprised that there hasn't been any progress on the side of portability for over half a decade. ...
TOMORROW....WE DINE IN HELL!!
WE ARE MACRUMORS!!
(Desperately waiting for an updated MBP......the blog's fury will rise tomorrow if there are no updates)---->
(>' . ')> =D![]()
I've heard nothing about a 9600M GT though, and I need a MacBook Pro soon, so whatever they put in this coming update, I'm getting.
Tuesday after Tuesday was a dissapointment. Today is the day, I can't feel it on my little toe.
