Yeah I know, but Ati have there 3400/3600 range out dont they?

Yeah, but I don't know how the mobile 3600 will be compared to the geforce 8600. I just want whatever apple can stuff into the thing that's the fastest, regardless of how hot it gets, how much power it drains, or how much the add-on costs.

My money is on them combining the two. It would make sense, as Apple doesn't like having too many products out there at once. Since the MBA's release, I am seeing less and less need for the MacBook. The high end model already crosses into low-end MBP territory. Just combine 'em Apple!

Ah well, none of this really matters, because even if Apple releases new MBPs, MBs, lowers the price of the MBA, and gives away free iPods to the first 100 customers that day, AND cures cancer, there will still be the same amount of whining. Like it or not, we live for this stuff. You guys would have nothing to do all day if you didn't have something to whine about.....

Here's what I think they should update in the MacBook:
- Bring in LED backlit displays
- Replace the ComboDrive with a SuperDrive for the base model

If your that big a gamer you really should buy or build a PC just for gaming or hope apple finally see the light when it comes to gaming and give its customers of high end gfx as an option, thats always been my one major bitch with apple, lack of options on its products, I mean the imac designed properlly could easily house a Top End Mobile Nvidia GPU.

Two (possible) MB-models? Could they drop the second white MB away and have just one white & black? Especially because didn't Steve say Apple intends to drop combo-drives out?

For people dreaming of a dedicated 128 graphics card on a MB and a 512 gpu on a MBP, keep on dreaming. I don't think Apple would take your high end desires so thoroughly into account. Very few cheap PCs have more than an integrated gpu provided by Nvidia or ATi. Yes, they are better than x3100, but they are still integrated. However, I would like to see this, so Apple could leave x3100 for the MBA, which is not even meant to be a pro-machine, but a very high end GPU would cause heat issues with the MBP and there has to be a clear distinction between MB and MBP. Apple knows better than you, unfortunately.

I shouldn't bother browsing through these forums. I'd like to buy a MBP, but I know they'll never be cheap enough for me :(

EDIT: I also don't think Apple would merge MB and MBP. Pro-users need their high end stuff and common people just looking for a computer would have to pay too much for that. MBA is a compromise. It's not going to replace a full-featured notebook that is the MB.

Oh well, when the sun destroys Earth in 7 billion years and I'm living as a god in my own universe, I probably won't care if MBPs came out this Tuesday or not.

So when would those updates be announced? It is 12.04am Cupertino time right now and there's nothing... what time do they normally update the site?

Did you think Steve would be up at this hour to celebrate his annoucement like it was a New Year's countdown?

That we would watch the big glowing Apple drop down from the top of a pole and explode into a fireworks display at the bottom at midnight?

10 ... 9 ... 8 ... 7 ...

Welcome to Steve Job's Apple Rockin' Eve !!

Actually this is the first time I understand what kept Apple waiting for so long. Why would they wait with the release of a new MBP to be released for (way too many) months if it wouldn't be for a massive turn-around?

To me it seems pretty likely a new laptop will be released (MBA-style, black logo and black keyboard on a aluminium laptop) in 3 models: 13.4, 15 and 17". So, I think there will be two Apple-laptops: the MacBook Air and the MacBook (pro-version).

...The MacBook Pro originally released BEFORE the MacBook. The MacBook Pro replaced the PowerBook. 3 or so months later the MacBook came out, replacing the iBook, thus phasing out "i" in the notebook naming scheme. I'm sorry, but I know my stuff, and I'm by no means "ignorant". The MacBook Pro and MacBook both originally released in early-mid 2006. Please do your research before posting such nonsense.

That may be true, but Apple also updated the MB's in May 2007, and the MBP in June 2007. However, the MB didn't get Santa Rosa until the November update. It would be unusual for Apple to release Penryn in both systems on the same day, much less on the MB before the MBP. I definitely believe that the new MBP will be released first, and if not, then it is because Apple has consolidated the MBP and MB into a single line, with Pro BTO options in place. I actually hope this is true, as I could order a 13" MB + Pro options, mainly a 256mb graphics card. If they do this, most likely the 13" Pro options will be limited compared to the other sizes, for the obvious size constraint reasons.

I also doubt 13" MB+P sales would cannibalize MBA sales, as the MBA would still be much thinner, lighter, and cheaper. The 13" MB+P would most likely be slightly more expensive then the base 15" model, probably at least $400 more expensive than the air.

Hah, that's the best I've got at 3am on a Tuesday morning. Too bad my workout tonight didn't knock me out like I'd hoped. I'm way too excited to sleep. I need a pill. I've got 11.25 hours of class tomorrow. This can't be healthy.

Dearest

The macbook pro was also updated in november of 2007

Everybody says the MB won't be updated cause it was already updated in late 2007 but so was the MBP!!

The macbook pro got a speed bump and HD size increase as well as a couple of other minor fixes.

The MB got a memory increase and processor bump(SR chipset).

All the MBP got was a more expensive OPTION of a faster processor and bigger HD. That is not an update..it's just keeping the super speed freaks wanting the latest and greatest happy. Bring those updates...PLEASE!!

A new design (= a bigger and/or thicker MBA), but the same for MB and MBP would be awesome (would they keep both names?)! Of course there would be different configurations with different prices for different needs.

If it's true, I just hope all models will also be available with mate screens...
A powerfull 12/13'' non-plastic MB with mate LED screen and illuminated keyboard is "all" I need (the new LG P300 is almost that computer, almost...).

The problem with this scenario is that Apple would have announced such a thing in a big event, so maybe it will happen later this year with Montevina or next year with Nehalem.

yah i love your thoughts...but...unfortunately, we both know that won't happen....:( i feel like im going to be like dissapointed..it's just going to be like a LED update or something on the current macbook line

I think that it would be really nice to have a single line including MBP and MB. There could be three base models (13", 15", 17") and various BTO options like Mac Pro currently has. Nowadays there's not so much difference in the consumers' and professionals' needs, and those "pro" options could be BTO with extra price.

I honestly don't see Apple combining the Macbook and Macbook Pro, but if they did, surely it wouldn't be until WWDC? They would need a big launch for such a drastic change in the product line up.

Well it's Tuesday Morning here in the UK.... and nothing happened to anything yet. :(

It is late Tuesday afternoon here and we are several hours before you, nothing has happened here either. Mrs Murphy's village store has not released new MacBooks. I suppose we will all have to wait for that bloke that updates the website.

I just had word from the neighbours cat that he got out of bed a while ago but it was only for a pee. In a few hours he will get up and trudge off to work in the early morning, switch on his computer and start uploading the pages he probably finished at midnight last night. Meanwhile the world waits with baited breath........ Will it be a ..........

We have been waiting for months but something must happen soon because MB and MBPs appear to be out of stock around the world (certainly there are not any around here) and Apple are too smart to allow that situation for long. Note: it is both MBs and MBPs that are out of stock.

It makes sense that the MB and MBPs will be merged into one rationalised range. The Macbook Air becomes the "lightweight" machine (have we unknowingly already got the MB replacement?). Apple are bound to always produce a high end, very powerful laptop so the top of the range MPB will have to be replaced. It is well overdue. Also Apple have to get the Penryn chip out soon if they are to keep the sales momentum going that they achieved last year.

It may be that today we will see three new MacBooks 13", 15" 17" and it may even be a whole new look. I hadn't thought so before, I thought we would get a chip upgrade now with a major revision later in the year with the Montevina chip. The ongoing delay combined with the release of a "whole new look" Macbook Air makes me change my mind. I think we might see something special very soon.

.........Just a minute , he's stirring, he's getting up....

No sorry false alarm, he's gone back to sleep again.

Dude thanks for your reply. I have to agree we've been waiting AGES for this MBP to be updated, plus the MacBook. It just all makes sense if today is the day we finally get a new notebook product range :) :apple:
