The new layout, at least as displayed on the iPhone, looks very ugly and sort of childish in my opinion. It also seems to waste a lot of screen space: lots of empty white gaps between posts, etc. Is there any way to change what layout I see in the preferences? At the very least, give an option to not show the avatars.

Hey, overall I like the appearance, but...

I really dislike it when I reply to a post, and my reply ends up temproarily appearing at the bottom of page 2 of a 3 page thread. It's confusing. Is the idea behind this to keep you on the same page you were reading when you made your reply? After I acclimate, I might get used to this. :p

What was the verdict on being able to edit the title of a thread you created?
Thanks!

Interesting. This morning the "minutiae" I mentioned have vanished -- temporarily, I'm sure -- and the whole forum has that more balanced look I was talking about. I like it.

BTW, are photo albums gone? And I may be dense, but I have yet to find the User Control Panel several people have talked about. Where is it?

Edit: Just went back a page and saw that Arn has made the join date, etc., optionally visible by clicking on a person's avatar. Nice solution, Arn! Thanks!

And I forgot to mention I took a look at the forum on my iPhone last night, and it looks really good on there. Responsive design rocks.

we've made some slight tweaks to try to tighten things up. still have some to go.

There is no more desktop or mobile theme for the forums, it's one theme that adapts to your screen size.
Yes there is; go to the macrumors.com front-page and scroll ALL THE WAY DOWN, if mobile you will see a "use mobile theme" ON/OFF switch. In desktop version you can click on the link all the way where it says "mobile version"

Turned off rich text editing in prefs.
That kills all bold, ital, sub, sup, link, list etc. tools completely.
I was hoping it'd just show me a little rawer looking input text.
xxx[\url] or talics[\i] etc.
No such luck.
Any way to get this formatting info back?

Interestingly, it's cutting out the start url and start italic square bracket thingies from my response, so something in the App still knows what I'm trying to do
.

I didn't think the Forums needed a new look, as much as they needed some additional functionality. This new theme is so big and spread out that it makes finding things difficult in Safari on my Mac.
Mobile Safari is a nice upgrade, in both looks and functionality, but there is too much crap surrounding the text boxes that takes up screen space. Hopefully you guys can continue tweaking this. For now, this seems like a step back in layout.
Plus, the new Search function seems to be a nice upgrade.

There's one change I'd make. I'd rather just see an upvote/like number which you click to see the names of people vs the current "Name1, Name2, Name3, and # others like this."

I think just showing the number was more straightforward and less cluttered.

Yikes I don't like the new look. I wouldn't be surprised that under the hood the site is better. Can't wait to get past this.

I like the upgrade, looks clean and nice! The only recommendation I have is to have a Fluid HD version like on the main web page somewhere (and maybe there is and I can't find it). I dislike all the wasted space on the side of the pages.

Thank's guys, that was a fast response! This is a handy new feature to avoid those excessive quotes.

@SandboxGeneral

I don't use Twitter, I thought it used hashtags for everything. :) I need to get with it I suppose.
the @ symbol is how to address someone, like an email or physical address. The # symbol is to do trending and keywords throughout the Twitterverse.

I feel like there's too many things trying to get my attention in posts, and getting in the way of comments. I think the report, thumbs up, quote, and reply buttons are too prominent. They are very large especially with having borders. The post number is very large for how infrequently a person needs to find that.

For what it's worth, it would be nice to still have an indicator of "Original Poster" or "Thread Starter" whenever the OP comments on his thread, and also an indicator on which threads have attachments. (Both features existed previously.) Otherwise, really nice and sleek.

Just noticed that in Safari 'frequently visited' sites, any links for MacRumors forums has the XenForo logo as its picture.
