I am thinking Ill have little excuse not to attend this year (being as I am back in blighty now n'all)

You have no excuse. ;) It'll be nice to meet you and have a natter about this or that given some of our shared interests.

Picnic news: I've sussed a few things out and will be posting details, maps and directions on or before this coming Tuesday (9th) in this thread once I can put a decent map together for download and maybe mark it up in Google Maps.

The picnic will be held in Hyde Park this year. Last year was in Kensington Gardens, the 2007 and 2006 picnics before that were in Regent's Park.

The date is still Saturday the 1st of August, from 1pm onwards.

Picnic details

Heads up!

Full details of the picnic in Hyde Park, including maps, linked below as a two-page PDF (1.2mb)
for download and printing out or putting on your iPhones/smartphones etc.

Things kick off at 1pm, not 2pm as first posted.

Please let me know if things aren't clear and I'll fix what I can and update the link. Cheers.

Picnic Details PDF

:)

Plan B in case of bad weather to come three or fours days before the picnic.

Be there or be triangle...

Good point. :p

For those coming by car, there are a few parking spots dotted here and there on the first page map. I think the closest parking spaces are just over the bridge that crosses the Serpentine.

Also, here is the location plotted on to Google Maps

Thanks e. :) I'm a bit dithery and vague about how to do that and time was short.

Thinking about supermarkets and shops, there's also Edgeware Road with a large Waitrose and Sainsbury's (I think) and also shops at the top of Oxford Street/Marble Arch. Probably best to bring everything we need, rather than relying on too many top-up runs, although having too much isn't always a bad thing. ;)

Also forgot to mention that the park toilets close at 8pm.

That link didn't take me to the picnic site. At least I don't think it did...

I may drop in seeing I will be at work in Canary Wharf that morning anyway...
Especially as I am a noob/lurker on here, It would be nice to meet some of you guys, and also most of my friends don't share my love of macs or tech in general.
A little apprehensive though as a lot of you guys seem to know each other already:eek:

Come down to the park and I'll introduce you to everyone I can put a name to. The hostess with the mostest, in a manner of speaking. ;)

The last thing I would want is for people to not think they're welcome. If you can sit or stand with a cold drink in one hand, you've made the grade. :)

Some of us have met already. At previous MR Picnics. It's what they're for, to meet new people who have a common interest.

Come along and say Hi...
:)

I'll probably come over there, circle the group a few times and then lose my nerve and disappear into the trees:D
Joking, I will post whether I'm coming for definite nearer the time.

Stupid 3.0, it opens the link in Safari and not in Maps!!!

It's something to do with that link, not 3.0. I think it may be the target="_blank". I tested some other links (like say the gmap link on this page) and they opened in the maps app fine.

I just tried it too. It is the link. Weird.

I just changed the link to use a KML file, hopefully this works for everyone :) Sorry about the first attempt

Well it is a link to maps.google.com, so I'd expect it to load in Safari.

You clearly don't have an iPhone :p

Normal links to maps.google.com get loaded in the built-in maps app which gives a much better user experience than the web-based Google maps. The problem is that if there is a target attribute on the a html element then this does not appear to happen. Now as you are not adding this attribute, the forum software is, I'm not sure there is much that can be done about it...

Ooooohhhhh, I seeeeeeee. That makes sense, but no, I have no control over it. The forum puts that tag in by itself.
