Absolutely terrible. Looks cheap and un-apple like. I would seriously be put off getting this phone! Also if apple are so secretive about their phones then why does it have the apple logo and name plastered across the back, surely they would leave this off until final production....

It is so different to the iPad which is their latest product, (i.e the buttons etc.) surely it would be more similar to the iPad if this is the actual release product!

Why can't the iPhone lead the change? It's their highest profile product.

I'm guessing this is one of the fake prototypes that Apple makes, if it's of Apple origin at all.

Somebody "accidentally" let it into the wild, and will now be fired because Apple knows exactly who was given this fake design.

Why isn't it an honest prototype?

How about how ugly it is?
The motherboard isn't in a red dye?

The other possibility is it's a hoax created completely by Gizmodo.

First of all, I love all the new features it offers, but design-wise, this can't be the final apple product. In fact, I gaurantee it's not the final. It doesn't have the clean apple look that apple's famous for. Not a horrible design, tho. But I know the final product is going to look drastically different than this. An iPhone with visible screws and replaceable battery? Puh-lease.

:apple:

It just seems odd to me that Apple would allow for such a HUGE leak ahead of time. I think this is a planted teaser... one to get the "buzz" machine going. :)

Something just seems wrong about this phone... nice features... don't know about the design until I can hold it.

I don't consider it huge because there is nothing new.

Huge could have been a leak of the iPad at its time, with people finding out the hardware(A4(?) or else) before the release it could have compromise something, but the new iPhone will have stuff that people already know, is not a new product and is not bringing anything innovative(as a phone) infact Apple is introducing now feature that have been introduced by other company ages ago(see front facing camera).

This is Apple new controlled-leak-free-advertising-market-strategy IMOO.

This is so obviously a hoax...

As I said earlier this is a counterfeit. I saw this in Japan early Jan. in Akihabara. It might've been imported from China where they produce for apple. And it might have been a prototype. However this is definitely not a final Apple design.
If so then the iPhone team working on the phone has an extremely different vision of apple products. This looks like your ordinary Prada/samsung.
It's got too much lines and is too edged.
I believe it might even be a hoax put forth by apple itself.
What we'd call a dummy device.

Sorry if this has been said but I couldn't be bothered to read every post!

Could the flat back have anything to do with pattent apple filed re: turning the iPhone into a game pad, as noted on the icontrolpad site on April 2nd??

I've owned iPhones from the beginning. But not because of what the outside casing looks like. I own one because I like the way it works.

It's one thing for people to want their phone to look nice, it's another thing when people say "OMG, I'm not buying this new iPhone because it's so ugly."

Personally I would never purchase anything thats hundreds of dollars and used every day if it was the at all visually unattractive. Thats why I did not buy the nexus. Ugly color. Weak shape, awkward backplate.

You are on my awesome list due to this post :D

Leaked photos from non-macrumors site:
"It's a POS!", "Fake!", "I wouldn't buy that ever!"

Macrumors says it's true and posts a poll:
"Love it!", "Apple FTW!", "I'd have it's babies!"

We find out it's a non-final prototype on April 21:
"It's a POS!", "Fake!", "I wouldn't buy that ever!"

Agreed! This really sums it all up.

Lets call it what it is, a POS fake... and be wow'd when the real one comes out. Apple's not wowing anyone with this hunk of metal.

People really are gullible if they think this is the real phone. If it is, I'll buy Android... <gasp!> that's how sure I am.

BTW: I don't understand how a fuzzy photo with a big red arrow pointing at what looks like the side of someone's hockey skate proves anything...

:apple:

Yeah, those visible screws on the bottom have me perplexed. Very un-Apple like.

I still believe this is NOT THE NEXT IPHONE. You'd be amazed what the tech factories in China can cook up. After all where do you think iPhones are made?

And has anyone seen this thing turned on yet?

Did you even read the giz article????If so read it again.

How said that people believe in fairy tales. I will be coming back to this thread in june to laugh at those of you who thought this was the IP4G when its proven it wasnt. :D

[/QUOTE I know bro....that's exactly what I'm trying to say.....no one is going to Apple because Apple started all this...this is their plan to hype people up!

...I mean....if this is REAL PROOF of an iPhone and if they deny it......then come June if this really was the real iPhone you would go back and ask them....."why did you lie to us saying this was not the iPhone when indeed it was?" Apple would be labeled as a company that lies......trust me.....all of Apple's competition would love to ride on that!/QUOTE]

So using this logic, we should just be able to ask Apple and they will definitely tell us the truth if it's the real iPhone or not? Well, who wants to send the email?

Ok now be honest with yourself.

It does look like a MBP.

It's shiny, it's glossy, it's cromy, it's glass, aluminium and ceramic. Nothing more than these feature can describe better an Apple product. :apple:

If you don't like it is another thing.

Gizmodo is spreading out their $10K investment in buying this prototype. Their next piece will be a full tear down, at which point we'll probably find out what the seams are for.

I'm guessing that the seams are for access to internal components for engineers that are working on refining the device. I don't believe that the shipping model will have these seams.

If Apple intended on making the battery users accessible, they would have jumped at the opportunity to hide the SIM tray inside as well.

As for those saying that this doesn't look like Apple design:

design_imac_20091020.png

The edge to edge glass is exactly how Apple does it in the most recent iMac. So is the brushed aluminum, with sharp edges along the sides and rounded at the corners.

The new iPhone is a lot like a miniaturized iMac.

If it is real...

Im surprised Apple hasnt given Giz a cease and desist order. Dont they usually go nuts when something is leaked out into the open? Especially something as critical as the iPhone, with all the competition from Andriod and such.
Why let the competition know the features and and look of your upcoming product?
Weird...

I'm not totally sure what to think about the new design yet... I like a lot of the new elements, especially the aluminum frame and the glas/ceramic back gives it a higher quality look and feel and makes it sturdier... But I don't like the volume buttons and the dock connector looks kind of "out of place" because it looks so huge relative to the body and I hope they remove the seams...
What I also like that it got a more minimalistic look without the pointless chrome bezel and the rounded back, but at the same time it looks a bit like a sony-ericsson phone...
I hope they fine tune the design a bit more, because I think there is some room for design improvements, but it is a very good base to start with...

Another thing that still strikes me, is that somebody from apple loses his iphone 4g in a bar... I don't know what to think about it, it smells like Apple did this on purpose, if not so, I think heads will role at Apple HQ and Steve will not be happy about this at all! I'm very curious how Apple will react publicly about the leak two months before the official launch...
In a way the whole release event at the WWDC is pointless now, because everybody knows what will come and the excitement and 'wow effect' will be gone by then!
So either way, Steve has to pull something very special till then or the launch will not be that exciting, because the iphone os 4 is also already released...

Let's see, I'm very curious how Apple will react, because 2 months is a long time...

i love how half of the people say its fake when they didn't even read the gizmoto report. its not fake theres only 2 possibilities now that it truly got lost (and apple confirmed they lost one) or its a controlled leak its defiantly apple made this gives us some insight to the next iphone unless this it it. theres only 2 months till june i doubt they haven't finished or very close to finishing the final product. its not a chinese or Japanese or anything ese fake. i rely doubt that gizmoto would lie on there report on the iphone because they know no one would listen again so if u choose to believe it they believe what they see in the iphone. so the r- tards that didn't see the rest of the pics and are going on one blurry pic and saying its fake are stupid. even if im wrong more facts point to it being real than fake so i stand by my argument

As some have pointed out, does it really matter that much about the looks of the design? I love my iPhone because of its' functionality. IMO, the look of the 3G/3GS is nothing special at all.

Weird...

This has been answered in this thread 50 times and more in other threads: A C&D order is Confirmation that this is real. A C&D at this point would have no use because the cat is already out of the bag. You can't unsee what has already been seen, you can hide the details from the competition because they're already working on assessing how they can compete with Apple based on the leaked information and images.

Apple can only work to dampen the effects of this by either branching away from this prototype and reverting to another one of their prototypes (who thinks they only have one?) or staying the course and accept that any publicity is good publicity.
