Only one other mention among these 100 posts so it should be repeated --

Buying this package automatically gives you a 6 month subscription to MacUpdate which will AUTORENEW and charge your credit card!

BEWARE!!

You must go and manually turn this off.

Dirty trick in my book, since I never intended to use MacUpdate.

That said, I got the package to get a 1Password for Windows license that I can use on my work machine. I currently have the Mac version. Also the upgrade for Parallels which will probably only be useful until Lion comes out if past OS upgrades have been any indicator.

Frankly, this does look like a very good package, except for the MacUpdate trick.

Where is this setting found at? Do I need to install MacUpdate to change it?

The auto renew setting is under the billing/purchases section of your macupdate.com account. You don't need to install the desktop application to change it, just access your account on the web.

I bought two package but when I log into the macupdate and view my purchases,it show $99.99 for each of them. Is this nornal? Has anyone else bought more than one and got the same problem?

*update: I send an email to macupdate about it and already received an email back advising that I was only charged for $99.99 for both bundle. Pretty quick response from billing dept. in my book. :)

I agree!!!

A 6 month subscription?? Where was that disclosed (did I miss it)?

And auto renew thats a sneaky and deceptive practice unless disclosed.

I shut it off but without your and earlier posts I would have been fighting a charge later....Thank you.

If you select MacUpdate in the list of bundled applications at the very end it states "This bundle includes 6-months of free use.". It implies that it is a subscription service but there is no mention of auto-renew. I don't remember even seeing mention of it when checking out, only a statement that new users would get a free 6 month subscription and existing will get a six month extension to their subscription. I do hope they get a lot of credit card chargebacks from people who they auto-renewed without consent. Makes me glad I used paypal.

1 password is the only one I already knew i wanted, I got it for that and to support MR. Turns out the other programs are pretty cool to.

Thanks MR!

Is anyone else getting an error when trying to install Civ IV from this bundle? I get an error after choosing which disk to install on.

Error is:

An internal error has occurred.
You will not be able to install this software.

My system is running 10.6.6

I went in a turned it off. It reads like it is an email subscription though. Maybe they would have sent a reminder before charging? I don't know. You are right though; i saw nothing about a auto-renewal. It was probably in the fine print.

I get the same thing.

Also, how do I turn off the MacUpdate autorenewal?

Thanks for pointing this out, this is very underhanded, and is not mentioned anywhere during the purchase process. Very poor form.

Does anyone know if you can get an appshelf receipt with this?

Totally picked Mac for my 1Password registration, forgetting I already had it for Mac. I should have gotten it for Windows.

I see they snuck their own app into the bundle for a share of the proceeds.

Well played MacUpdate, well played.:D

Typical of my luck though. The first bundle anyone has ever offered that is of interest to me and i switched back to Linux (Linux Mint Debian Edition) from Mac OS X a month ago.

Sorry to hear you went to Linux.

Hmmm, the limit for divvy has now gone up to 20,000. Seems a bit silly to resort to these sort of tactics to try and encourage people to "buy now or miss out!"

Thank you so much for pointing out the subscription update! I certainly wouldn't have picked up on that until I noticed I was billed for it. Overall I'm really pleased this is my first real dealing with macupdate. The Parallels license alone was worth it for me seeing as I was on my 3 or 4th trial version, I'm starting to use 1password too which I must say I quite like, though the amount of random serials and and data I need to enter is annoying. Overall a very satisfied customer. Thanks for pointing this out macrumors.

Odd, all I did was copy the folder to my HD like the readme said and ran the executable. Worked fine for me, I didn't see an installer (although it did ask for my serial #, so maybe that was it's form of installation).

FWIW, I tried divvy and then uninstalled it... unimpressed. There is no way I would pay money for THAT app.

But yeah, I'm not surprised. This seems to be par for the course with these types of sales. I only buy if I need the software and/or can unload pieces to make my money back.

Since this is my first Mac, this is a pretty good deal. That said, I am not too impressed with the MacUpdate site, as it by default puts all your info in your public profile (can be disabled in the privacy tab in preferences) and auto-renewal.

I also removed as much personal information as I could, just in case. I highly recommend you do the same if you have no plans on continuing your subscription.

Civ IV isn't working for me either, has anyone found a solution to this?
nvm, I got it to work after a couple tries
