Uh, where exactly are you buying your mattress if it cost you 3 grand?

But anyways, point being that Apple prices its products based on the value they believe it will bring the user, which may or may not have a close correlation with the overall cost of manufacturing. This is why an iPhone can be sold at a much higher price (and consequently profit) than the iPad, because customers value the utility of a pocket computer more than they value a tablet the size of a clipboard.

This is why we have $400 iPhone SE and $700 Mac Pro wheels. One is an essential core offering that Apple wants to get into the hands of as many users as possible (and probably because that's what the market will bear), the other is an optional accessory that would appeal only to a niche group of users, and its higher price is in accordance with the low quantity that would be sold regardless.

Same as with the example above. People are not going to choose between a HomePod and MagSafe duo based on price, because the two are not direct alternatives. My guess is that the HomePod is priced at the level it is because Apple wants to spur adoption and get as many UWB-equipped devices into the hands and homes of users. Conversely, the duo is not that out of line with what another company like Belkin would charge.

I really wanted this charger and i still do. A Samsung 15w wireless charger is £70 so nothing is cheap these days.
Yeah the Duo is expensive but thats Apple for you.
I will sell off my Apple Watch dock and a Magic Mouse V1 which i has never used that that will give me £45 towards the Duo so it brings it well under £100. No doubt Amazon will do a promotion on it as they have done with the leather cases so that will bring the cost down further.

You did not just justify the absolute irredeemable joke that are the $700 wheels.

This feels like you're paying for Apple's failed R&D with AirPower. I don't think Apple cares one way or another how many of these they sell. But I'd advise waiting for the thousands of third party alternatives that'll be out mimicking all of this product's benefits in a number of different form factors for under half the price by Christmas.

It just doesn’t look well designed. It doesn’t have the Apple typical design flair.
This is one of the first real signs of Apple after Ive. While I didn’t always agree with his designs, he had the eye for balance. Even the iPhone 12 is going back to something I would say is an Ive credit.

Do you think Apple gets a cut from accessory makers for MagSafe just like they did for lightning.
I'm not really into this topic, but I would guess so. MagSafe likely uses some proprietary protocols, which Apple sells to accessory makers under the "Made for iPhone" label.

Tbh, this whole shift from open Qi standards to proprietary MagSafe is an anti competition and anti consumer move.

I prefer my Pad X3 charger from WhyWood. A charger beautifully made and worth the higher price.

Even if the $129 price point was in Canadian money, it would be too expensive.

No charger should cost more than ~3% the price of the device(s) it charges.

Apple last month introduced the MagSafe Duo Charger, which features a foldable design with a built-in MagSafe Charger and Apple Watch charging puck. A new video recently shared on YouTube goes hands-on with the accessory.

The video showcases the accessory being used to charge an iPhone 12 and Apple Watch. Similar to the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock, the Apple Watch charging puck can be pushed up to allow the watch to be docked on its side, enabling Nightstand mode.

The MagSafe Duo has the ability to wirelessly charge a compatible iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods or AirPods Pro case, and other Qi-certified devices. Priced at $129, the charger ships with a USB-C to Lightning cable, but the recommended 20W power adapter is sold separately for $19. An exact release date has still yet to be announced for the accessory.

$129 must be a typo.

Except for the fact that you can still use any case or Qi charger you like with the new phones.

Apple have added new options for charging and accessories which you can purchase and use, or completely ignore. Hardly “anti consumer.”
