Niche product. iPad Pro 12 inch is already in a small niche by itself. Apple can make whatever size iPad they want. It is not problem of how but why. Larger iPad will require a desk and a stand so customers will likely prefer a MacBook directly, if they are not professional designers, architects or alike that count for probably less than 1/1000 of the user base. It is like the Mac Pro or iMac Pro. I still havent met a person that owns any of these devices. I dont mean Apple should abandon professional users and focus only on devices for the average customers, but at the end of the day it is what generates profits. Apple is doing anything they can to expand their portfolio of products in order to rely less on the iPhone, but I dont think they can achieve much by simply releasing random products that only exists to gain some market share and diversify the portfolio.

You say “once you get past those uses”, the majority of folks on the internet today NEVER get past those uses :) That’s why the iPad sells so well!
I mean even I own an 11” iPad Pro, but I won’t pretend that it’s some sort of productivity device.

I feel like most of MR gets upset when you point out that the iPad has very limited uses, while also being upset each year when Apple doesn’t overhaul iPad OS.

If you want to do anything more than YouTube, you’d be better served with a chromebook.

Seems a very ‘you’ orientated reply. I’m happy with the iPad. IPados does what I want. I’d be happy to see more features but it’s a young fork. A chrome book is just utter ***** for me and many other professional ipad workflows so there is that. Weird to put it in the same league

iPadOS and macOS merge is inevitable.
The hardware is there with Apple silicon, and Big Sur looks almost touch-ready.
There's probably 100s of prototypes in the lab; Apple is just waiting to unleash when they have 'perfected' the functionality.

Nope. Why would they? Macos is legacy as far as they’re concerned. Still great, still workable, but iPados is made for the iPad. It will continue like that and gain more macos features. It won’t morph.

Why not? I can already run many iOS/iPadOS apps on my M1 Mac just fine... Why not let the new iPad Pro run Mac Silicon universal apps? The iPad already can be equipped with a mouse and keyboard!

The iPad/Mac debate is artificial and frankly ridiculous. Both hardware platforms are or will soon be essentially identical with respect to their capabilities and potential. It's Apples forced separation that looks more absurd with every release.

What might of made sense in 2010 no longer does.... That's the inevitable result of the technology catching up to the way we work, function and play....

With only few pros? Then I have a lot of pros who disagree with you. You see, it's just ironic.
We are once again at the same point. You believe you represent a significant group of users who want what you want and I (and those who agree with me), think you do not. Apple agrees seems to agree that turning the iPad into a MacBook of some sort is not what people want. Either Apple is too stupid to understand that all their sales and market research are wrong or you are.

Running macos apps is not the same as forcing macos on the iPad though.

I half agree! But on ipados, not forcing macos on the iPad. Macos as an app is something I have long advocated.

How would you know people won't like to have a Mac touchscreen display if it doesn't exist yet?
Because my BF had one. The Cintiq supports touch and he had on connected to his Mac Pro. He stopped using it in favor of an iPad Pro connected using Sidecar.

Just because Apple has not shipped one, does not mean it does not exist.

What I love about this discussion is on one side people who effectively say that Apple is too stupid to understand that what most people want is a touch screen Macintosh, and when people point out it exists and is a bad user experience, the response is that Apple is so smart they can figure out how to make it work.

Cognitive dissonance at its finest.

Not for you, but you do understand that there are other people who have different needs, right? I use mine as my primary portable device. My BF uses his for content creation.

I am not upset that you think the iPad has limited uses. I agree. It is not good as a jack stand, cannot make hot chocolate, and does not have reliable enough temperature control to be used for Sous Vide. However, where we disagree is what exactly that limited of uses includes. You seem to think it can only be used for watching Netflix in bed, and both my BF and I have different experience from you.

Well, there goes any credibility you might have had. Have a nice rest of your day.

I do not claim to speak for you, and unlike you, I acknowledge you and your friends exist. I just also acknowledge that you make up a small percentage of iPad/iPad Pro users (or potential users). Unfortunately for you, Apple seems to agree with me (and those who support my views). Based on iPad sales, the market seems pretty content.

Where does it even say Apple agrees with you? Are you a delusional person? If you gonna make any statement, you better bring proofs, not your opinion. Otherwise, that's just another "You dont speak for us."

Well they have not done what you want, and every time they are asked about doing what you want they say they will not. That pretty much says it.

There is quote after quote after quote that all say this. That and the fact that are not doing what you want seem to indicate that we are in agreement. I guess they could agree with you, but hate you so much they will not do what you want out of spite, but I do not think that is it either.
