I returned my 9C9E and happened to be lucky enough to get a 9CBD...I agree with nicoplanet, the 9C9E looks worse out of the box, but after calibration, not as big difference.

I do think the 9CBD's colors are a little truer and brighter, and the blue/purple issue is less pronounced (but still there). So far, I haven't seen as many images with colors that just "look wrong".

By the way, the profile posted in this thread is the best I've seen so far.

calibration profile

Looking forward to seeing nicoplanet's profile!

Yes, full brightness. My profiles come from a Spyder2Express, and usually people find them "over red"... (6500K, 2.2 Gamma) But, no problem, I'll post them.

Regarding the brightness, no, I don't have this feeling with my 3G iPhone :confused:

What I mean by this is that if you turn up your iPhone 3G brightness all the way and Macbook Pro brightness all the way.....iPhone is significantly brighter :mad:

Here we go : here is my ZIP file for the 9CBD screen...
Inside, the following profiles :

- Spyder2PRO -> Gamma 1.8 -> white point : 6500K
- Spyder2PRO -> Gamma 1.8 -> white point : native
- Spyder2PRO -> Gamma 2.2 -> white point : 6500K
- Spyder2PRO -> Gamma 2.2 -> white point : native
- Spyder2express -> Same as PRO 2.2 6500K, but with the Express software
- Some Huey profil, I've found on the forum, but it's way too blue for me...

Keep in mind that 6500K profiles may look over red at the fist sight, but after some hours of use, I always love them, and they are great for video and photo... :D

Let me know what you think! :rolleyes:

Yes, I see what you mean: that's true, full brightness on the iPhone is brighter than MacBook Pro's full brightness... That's also true with my iMac 24", and with a MacBook Air.

In my opinion, that's just normal... :confused:

Not sure what I have here

Hi there - I just got a nice MBP13 2.53 to replace our household general purpose machine (a powerbook g4 1.25 15"). Very happy so far. The screen on this one seems to have a bit of a yellow cast, and greens and light blues look well, sort of artificially light. Blues seem to be the most "wrong" - all colors are much better if I adjust the screen to maximum tilt away from me.

9C9F mfg 610, so this is LG Phillips I guess. I'll be trying to calibrate it. Might be that I'm used to slightly darker looking colors on the g4.

The following command
"ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6"

yielded this output

P .00 6
LP133WX3-TLA1
Color LCD

I just bought the 13" mbp and all I was hoping for was to NOT get the 9C9E (samsung) panel, since people are saying it is the worst.

Of course, I got that one?

Anyone want to talk me out of my suicide (yes i know i double posted that).

As far as I gathered it, all panels are at least better then the late 2008 UMB screens :) Be sure you calibrate it before goig through all the return hazzle...

I have the same one.

I did a slight calibration and it's perfect FOR ME. :)

I found a great profile on here (called (9C9E)) and it looks amazing now. I'm using a windows machine right now with a 24" ben=Q G2400 TN panel (1 year old) and the same image on both screens looks WAY better on the new mbp.

Here is what I know so far:

Updated (Displays with reported issues are bolded):
9CA1 (?) - My first unit. Bright but had a slight bright bleed on the right bottom

To the OP.. 9CA1 is AU Optronics. Please update. Thanks!

To me, this screen is perfect. I actually don't see a bright bleed anywhere. I'm not seeing any of the other issues people here have mentioned also about the other panels (purple stuff and scroll stutters and what not). I guess I lucked out. I've mentioned this before here previously also:

9CA1 = AU Optronics

I had the 2.4GHz uMB "CE" previously, but sold it due to the unimpressive screen (9C8C), which was also made by AUO. I can honestly say that the 9CA1 by AUO on these 13" MBP are definitely an improvement. Actually, I think they are really good. I placed my 13" MBP, right after I bought it, next to the Air, and they were identical in display quality. Images that have a lot of blacks don't look like photo negatives anymore, and brighter images are not washed out. Viewing angles are better as well. With my previous uMB, I found myself having to tilt the screen up and down a lot to compensate for the bad viewing angles, and from left to right.. images became yellow tinted. This is not the case with the new 13" MBP.. I can now keep my screen in one position.. even when watching a Netflix streaming movie. I've only used the built in display color calibration, and just set it to tv gamma. I found that for my uses.. this was sufficient enough. Colors are crisp and not washed out. I work right next to the 5th Ave NYC Apple store, and I've noticed that all these new screens are a much improvement from the first version. My advice to people who are worried about which screen make they might end up getting.. I wouldn't worry about it. :)

EDIT: Also, the 9C8C, as previously mentioned, is a Rev.1 AluMB panel.. not a 13" MBP display. Please remove from your list. Thanks!

9C8C (?) - Some reporting a washed out screen but the jury is still out on this one.

It's pretty much been shown that it needs a little calibration, but then it's fine. Also, keep in mind that people are often extra critical on this forum.

No problem: in my opinion, it is as good as the LG/Phillips ones after calibration, without any doubt!

Enjoy your nice MBP :p

I have the 9CA1 (AU Optronics) screen and I can say it is amazing. Super bright, like hurts your eyes at night if you have it up all the way,super detail no brightness leaks/bleeds/anything.

I have a backdrop of Pittsburgh at night as the wallpaper and it looks amazing, lights are almost neon, and blacks are super deep.

I am liking my 9CA1 more and more every day (I switched to this from the 9CBD and was initially a little disappointed). The colors look amazing (no purple blues etc), and the screen is really bright. I tried all kinds of calibration and profiles, but the one I like the best is the default one with a gamma of 2.2.

I can confirm that default also looks best on my 9CA1. The google search results page looks unrealistically white and the green is also VERY bright. It is amazing. Look for this panel.

Could you please post your 9c9e profile as well? Would really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Joey

The more and more I use this computer I find myself reaching to crank up the brightness.....but it is always at the maximum :mad:

9CBD....my friend is getting a 13 MBP tomorrow and it will be interesting to see if they all have the same relative brightness levels

I have a 9CBD and I *never* have it at full brightness because it's just too damn bright.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (10A380) fixed Scroll Distortion Issue

The scroll distortion (ripple/flickering) effect is gone in SL. Now sure if the fix would be incorporated in 10.5.8 update, but we can rest assured it's fixed in SL. With SL (10A380), the scroll is very smooth, no more ripple/flickering effect.

This is VERY interesting. Thanks for sharing that bid of info...

Without that ripple effect, the 9CBD will scroll MUCH smoother than my 9C9F. While I scroll, it jumps, it's not smooth.. but on my mom's 9CBD it scrolls smooth but has the ripple/breaking effect... hmm, makes me want the 9CBD now more than before. Mine also has that ripple/break effect... and a slightly purple tint.

Meh.. such a pain having to exchange.

I've tried out some of the "manually" calibrated profiles and the blacks aren't black on this webpage... I get the best results with the Spyder2pro calibrated profiles someone posted here.

Also, my monitor (9C9F) flickers under Inversion (pixel-walk) :(
