What is this fuss about audio? Why do you want sound through the tv. I put mine through the usb interface and works fine

USB requires another plug and is stereo only. The newer macbook pros paired with a compatible adapter allow a single cable to send video and audio for a cleaner setup and support multichannel sound for direct output to a receiver.

I ordered this from Fry's on the 22nd and just received it. I didn't think it would get here that fast because I went cheap on the shipping and got the cheapest option. ($1.99)

My MBP should be here today also. I will let you know if it works.

Ok. I've tested this baby and so far so good. I had to go to System Preferences >Audio>Output(tab)>and click on the the proper output. Works perfect. Played an .avi through quicktime with no problem. (I have Perian installed)

Played a music file through iTunes...no problem.
Played a video on YouTube...no problem.

I also like the white finish they used on it. Matches the MBP's charger. Looks and feels sturdy also. I definitely recommend this!

Anything else you guys want me to test?

do normal system sounds work? I mean, can you normally work at the computer with just that cable connected?

If you have access to a late 2009 27" imac I'd love to know if audio works with that as well? Thanks.

@CFerra. I went to micro center today and bought the addlogix mdp to hdmi adapter and it doesnt work on my 15", i7 macbook pro. I thought maybe it was a bad hdmi cable but then i used the one that was connected to my working tv. ???????????????? Buyer beware, i am going to return tomorrow.

Did you make sure to change your audio output device to your HDMI device?

Ok i open Displays on Settings, plug it all in, mirror the screen, it's currently on 1080i and has options for 720p and 480p but changing to them messes it all up. It seems 1080i is probably the best setting and my tv does do that as its best as i've used my Xbox 360 on it in the past. Refresh rate is 50 and 60hz, doesn't change anything for me! SO have no idea what to look to change!

Please anyone know :(

I brought this one from ebay after being recommended by another member here. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-Displaypo...item2c5435c78d, cost me under £8 delivered and works full HD and audio on my Sony LCD. I am chuffed to bits feels like a quality item and was packaged well also.

Do you have any more details on this (seller, item name)? Your link isn't working and I'm looking for something like this in the UK.

After seeing your post yesterday I did a search for adaptors and found that one. Crazy price.

I've since found two more that have adaptors and promise sound. They're both only £8 so I may give one of them a try.

I can't believe. I just got my new MBP 13", which is supposed to pass audio, and dr.Bott, which may users reported to work with audio and I couldn't get audio work. In sound system preferences I don't see the external monitor and no audio is playing. I tried with different monitor and tvs but still nothing.

I think I should return the MBP.

please help!

No, unless I'm doing something wrong. I don't usually have sounds turned on anyways. Are you asking because you need it for Universal Access? I haven't tested that. Why do you need the system sounds?

I wish I had one of those. Sorry, can't test it.

IIRC someone reported Dr. Bott didn't work. At any rate I'd try another brand known for sure to work like Griffin or the one Fry's is selling. I had to go through a couple before I found the Griffin - and does work. I should be getting the NewerTech brand one OWC sells tomorrow and can report if it works or not.

Thanks for all the results so far guys. I will update the first post when we get more confirmed results in.

I haven't found a single report that dr.bott doesn't work that's why I think might be the computer.

After receiving my new 15" macbook pro yesterday the first thing I did was to test Dr. bott adaptor II on my TV. Unfortunately, the Audio didn't work. the video was okay but no audio. I didn't find any option listed in the output menu. when the new macbook pro were announced that they support audio output through minidisplay port Dr. bott was the first to say that they fully support it and they even noted it in their website. If you go check now it's not even mentioned. they just mention the macbook pro 2010 support but no mention of Audio support. I will just use the optical output until summer when more options are available. Since I'm in Germany no Griffin adaptor for me since they are not available here.

Ok, it's official. Dr.Bott is NOT working. I went to Apple Store and tried it on several new macbook pro.

You can order the Griffin one on their website. In europe Lindy is also working.

Same problem here. Apparently they have problems with this adapter. I've mailed dr. bott support and they want me to send the adapter back. but the shipping costs would be higher to send this part to the us and buying one

Just wanted to let you guys know that this is the cable that many people have confirmed works from frys.com. I just bought one yesterday but I still haven't received my 15" i7 MBP w/ high res which I ordered on 4/21 and it hasn't even shipped yet. So for those of you that do not have a Fry's around them, and I know they are OOS on the website it looks like you can order them directly from the manufacturer. Only thing is that they are $25.99 direct from the manufacturer instead of $17.99 from Frys but it still beats the griffin price and looks much nicer I think
