Don't see any reason why it should not, since it's just a standard HDMI signal, BUT...

You may want to check your TV's manual to see if there is a particular HDMI port/TV settings you should use for PC input. I have a Samsung LCD that the text on screen will appear blurry if I use the wrong HDMI input and/or (haven't REALLY tested this one) TV settings.

There are already videos on YouTube. Does the screen show as an audio output option?

yep, shows my tv

Im starting to think there is just something wrong with my sound, they had to replace my speakers on my i7 15" first week I had it

Going to have to deal with this before I leave town for research all summer

Has anyone been able to get sound output through Mini DisplayPort -> HDMI using Boot Camp?

Has anyone been able to get sound output through Mini DisplayPort -> HDMI using Boot Camp?

Yup. When you install the bootcamp nVidia driver or the official nVidia driver with the modified INF, it installs the nVidia High-Def Audio Driver as well.

It works perfectly on my 15" i7.

Thanks for the tip. I can confirm that this works flawlessly. Does 1080p and 5.1 including DTS just fine. The actual adapter looks better than most of the others too.

da* i wish i would have waited and got that one. i got the one from frys which looks better than the griffin but that one looks even nicer, and it's $8 cheaper. now all i need is my MBP as it is still in Shanghai after ordering it on 4/21

Here's the deal, I ordered an adapter from the following Amazon link from the seller HDE (for a total price of $7.99):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025V2VO0/ref=oss_product

I received it and it wasn't the one pictured. It actually looks like a better quality adapter than the one pictured. It looks exactly like the one from the following link:

https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer Technology/CBLMDPHDMI/

I didn't test it since my i7 MBP is scheduled to arrive May 5th. I'll give results when I get it.

Addlogix Adapter @ MicroCenter

I can confirm that the Addlogix mDP to HDMI adapter sends audio and video over HDMI. I've tested with a Panasonic plasma and a Yamaha receiver. Works perfectly, you just have to specify audio output to the external device, as has been previously mentioned.

I wasn't able to get the standard OS X DVD software to output encoded audio, but VLC is sending Dolby Digital encoded audio to the receiver as I type this.

These adapters are $20.00 at Microcenter, at least until they start flying off the shelves.

EDIT: nvm i got it to work, you have to set the audio out in the settings. i got the 14.99 to pass through audio via hdmi on my mac i7 to a panny plasma.

for anybody that wants to buy this cable its made by Dynatron and it also says gmdp460 on the bag.

IGNORE TEXT BELOW, ONLY FOR REFERENCE
if you bought the right cable.. does it pass through audio automatically? or is there a setting? i bought a cable at frys but it was for 14.99 instead of the 17.99 people have here and so far i cant get audio to work

You have to go into system prefs, select sound, then the output menu. If you don't see an HDMI option, it's not working. Quality/price of the HDMI cable shouldn't play into it, any HDMI cable since v1.1 should work fine (i.e, if you bought the cable in the last 7 years, it's not likely the problem).

The Addlogix adapter says it's only VESA 1.1, but it does work.

Thanks Daytona, that's really helpful!

Hi, Friday posted that I had ordered one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002WSM2N6/ref=oss_product

Received it today and it works perfectly. Our AV Receiver showed up in the sound output options, and all though we don't have a 7.1 set up (yet lol), the Receivers' display did show the option for a 7.1 systems, so it's detecting 8 channel sound. Very happy with it and didn't cost loads either.

So UK posters looking for an adapter that carries sound, this one works.
