Just noticed that OWC has a VESA 1.2 adapter in stock and on sale for $19 + $2 shipping. They state it will pass audio for the 2010 MBPs. Since they specialize in Mac & have bought from them many times I felt like it was a decent gamble on my part.

Here is the product link

I will post results when I get it... assuming this one isn't mis-delivered too

I've just received this adapter and audio works!

i had to set up the audio output to "samsung" to make it works.

But my Hdtv only displays the original Mac OS wallpaper. My mbp shows everything normal.
Should I set anithing else to view my entire and actual desktop on my hdtv?
:(

I'm new to mac so I'm not entirely familiar with this, but it sounds like you have it on extended display (or whatever the mac equivalent is). You should be able to drag windows to it if you want. I believe there is also a way to use it as the primary display so it shows everything, but I'm not sure how to do that. Take a look in the displays preferences panel and see what options you have.

Yes I'd like to set up as primary monitor or mirror monitor ...to disolay the whole screen in both displays. ( mbp and hdtv)
:(

Im a little lost cause I saw on youtube videos people just plug and play :(

I can also confirm the OWC (macsales.com) adapter works audio + video.

To get your MBP to mirror video go to System Preferences -> Displays. Click on the Arrangements tab. Check the "Mirror Displays" box at the lower left. If resolution is not correct chose the correct one. Done.

You are the mac!
Thank you:apple:

I also bought the OWC $19 adapter and audio and video both work fine...but is anyone else disappointed by the text resolution on a large TV? On my 46" Samsung, videos play through the TV and look fine, but text is really difficult to make out. It is set to 1080p in the "Display" preferences.

take whatever you want to view and drag it to the right out of the screen. Your HDTV will act as a continuation of your laptop screen. It's pretty amazing.

This is better than mirroring from my experience. I tested this on my friends 17" mbp the resolution on the tv would go down if I mirrored but if I just dragged it out of the screen it looked perfect. I am using a samsung as well.

Would be great if somebody could figure this out

I have the griffon adaptor and when I hook into my lg led lcd tv, I get picture, in the sound preferences, I select outbound to "lg tv"

But I do not get audio still, nor in my stereo which is connected to the tv via optical audio.

Yes, volume is turned on for the tv

You know, I just plugged my new Macbook Pro into my Samsung and thought the quality/resolution was really poor, worse than when I had done it with my Powerbook G4. And I wasn't able to pick the pixel by pixel resolution like before, only 720p or 1080i.

Then I remembered that the Samsung TV has a specific HDMI port for computer displays. I had my Macbook Pro going into HDMI Port 2, when Port 1 is the port that they say is for computer display. I switched it to Port 1, and the options for like 1360x768, etc appeared, and now it looks great.

Maybe this is what's going on with your setup?

Tried switching Samsung HDMI ports, but it still appears the same.
Settings are:
"Color LCD Display resolution": 1440x900
"SAMSUNG":1600x900

Standing in front of the television the text appears fairly crisp. But from our couch, which is ~6 feet away, the text appears a tad blurry and is difficult to distinguish.

That would be because 1600x900 is the wrong resolution. If your TV is 720p then the res would be 1366x768, 1080p would be 1920x1080.

Monoprice Mini DisplayPort to HDMI

I purchased the monoprice MDP to HDMI adapter to connect to my April 2010 MacBook Pro. I know the audio won't work, the site was updated to point that out. The picture displays, but I'm getting white lines flickering through the lower right part of the LCD Sharp HDTV screen. I'm about to return the adapter as I have tried several HDMI cords/lengths and both ports on my HDTV. Does this sound like a defective adapter or another problem?

I'm also considering the Video Display Converter, has anyone reviewed that one yet.

Ah you're right. I had switched it to 1080p when I tested it earlier this evening, but it must has reverted back. Changing the setting to 1080p doesn't really make much of a difference, however.

HD videos look fantastic and zooming in via Firefox's command-+ option works well too. But all other text fonts in native applications are just too small to see clearly IMHO

I purchased the Monoprice MDP to HDMI adapter (part 5996) for my 2010 MBP i7 17" and it wouldn't hold a picture on my Sony XBR9. It would display for a couple of seconds but my XBR9 would lose the signal. I tried various settings to get it to work with no success. Monoprice sent a replacement and the replacement works like a charm.

Ya, as far as size it is tiny and hard to see from a distance. It works great for movies and stuff, but web browsing is a bit difficult at 1080p from more than 2 feet away unless you have a 100" screen or something. I can't wait to get my cable so I can take part in this mac htpc goodness with the rest of you.

Thanks! I'm going to consider getting an exchange rather than a return.
Does anyone know if the Retail Apple Stores carry the Griffin Adapter? I see it's online but it would be easier to test it if they have it in store.

glad to hear...I will be getting one soon (obviously after I get my MBP) Lol, I have been so excited about getting my MBP that I have already bough a Zagg invisible shield for it and going to probably get a little more accessories

i have griffin and it shows my tv in sound out settings, but no audio

So im going to say ppl post videos proving it works
