Does this one pass through audio ? I think i bought exactly the same from ebay but it doesnt pass through audio.
HI.

I got the same HDMI adaptor from Amazon. It does pass audio, however, something funny is happening, if the video is not encoded in 5.1, i will get a default output of stereo, regardless of what video mode I choose in my amplifier.

Any ideas what's going on here?

You have to go into system prefs, select sound, then the output menu. If you don't see an HDMI option, it's not working. Quality/price of the HDMI cable shouldn't play into it, any HDMI cable since v1.1 should work fine (i.e, if you bought the cable in the last 7 years, it's not likely the problem).

The Addlogix adapter says it's only VESA 1.1, but it does work.

I ordered this one:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/re...=oss_product

and can see the HDMI option in the output menu, but still no audio. Is there anything else I should try?

I got this one off eBay and the audio worked...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...78419&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1972wt_1165

My monitor is stereo so I cant comment on the surround sound or sound quality. But it sounded good to me.
I use optical for HT anyways...

Anyone else having problems with this one not working? It doesn't show up in System Preferences-->Sound-->Output. I only see my internal speakers. Restarted it to just in case but I still don't see the TV as an option

Awesome! With the free ship that is in the realm of crackhead. I think I'm gonna jump on that one.

I just noticed that they changed the webpage to state it does not work. When I bought it, it said it did. I received it last night and tested it and it did indeed work. So not sure why it states it doesn't. Well worth it considering the price of the others!

MDP to HDMI not working at all

I am having problems connecting my new MacBook pro 13" to my LG HDTV 37" (720p).

Previously, I connected my 2008 MacBook Pro 15" to the same 37" LG HDTV (720p) using a DVI to HDMI cable with no problems whatsoever. I've been doing this for a while without any issues (watching Netflix through Boxee, and other content through Hulu desktop, using Rowmote to control from my iPhone, etc.), although I had to connect audio to speakers separately.

So when I recently got my brand new MacBook Pro 13", naturally, I wanted to do connect it to my TV. So I bought a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter on Amazon, the one which also supports audio according to this thread, and connected it to the TV.

Primarily, I wanted to see if this new adapter would in fact support audio through the HDMI, but unfortunately, I am not even able to get a video signal on the TV.

My MacBook Pro recognizes the display as an LG TV with a 720p resolution, and the TV actually shows a mirror of my computer for s split second before turning black and saying "No Signal". I spent a while experimenting with the resolution and refresh rate to no avail.

Why was I a able to do this with my 2008 MacBook Pro, but not the new one?

Anyone having similar issues? Any suggestions?

That looks like the same exact one I just bought from eBay which the audio did NOT work.

Do you see your TV under the output tab of Sound in System Prefs?

Yep, showed up as soon as I plugged it in. I selected it and the sound came from the TV as expected.

Ordered the amazon adapter which was recommended in this thread:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025V2VO0/ref=oss_product

Everything I have tested works.

Tested with:
Notebook: Macbook Pro 15" i7
TV: Samsung HLN DLP
TV: Sony 46W5150
Receiver: Onkyo sr-607

Results:
Video 720P & 1080P - working
Stereo (iTunes) - working
DTS 5.1 passthrough (MKV movie file) - working

Here is a link on how to enable AC3 and DTS passthrough:

Thanks to everyone contributing to this thread.

Audio signals

I already have a DVI->HDMI cable and optical audio cable for my previous laptop. Is there an audio benefit from the HDMI cable - as I haven't noticed mention of DolbyTrueHD etc.

Just wanted to drop another confirmation that the Griffin adapter works perfectly.
In addition to the HDMI, I tried it with the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and connected that to my old DVI-to-HDMI cable. It looks ridiculous but still, I was able to get audio and video.

Now, If only there was a way to turn off the external display and just be able to use it for audio-out. (Turning the display off with SwitchresX also disables the audio as well.)

Did it work?

I received it and it wasn't the one pictured. It actually looks like a better quality adapter than the one pictured. It looks exactly like the one from the following link:

I didn't test it since my i7 MBP is scheduled to arrive May 5th. I'll give results when I get it.

I ran into a similar situation when I rec'd my adapter. It's not exactly like the macsales link, but very similar.

It works.

I can confirm that the Dr. Bott MDP to HDMI II adapter does NOT work for audio. False advertising, they should be sued!

the Griffin Video Display Converter i ordered through Amazon came and it works well...

able to receive both image and audio through the HDMI port.

need to restart my MBP before it detects my LCD TV.

remember to set audio output to HDMI output...

But, does anyone yet know if you can pipe 5/7.1 uncompressed through it? Not transcoded through Plex or passed through from a DVD, but actually separated and sent as separate audio channels, and showing up in a multi-channel source in Audio Midi Setup.

Dr. Bott.

Hi there guys, just because you might be interested! I initially bought the Dr. Bott. II adapter because it quite clearly said on their website that it supported sound... anyway after a lengthly conversation through e-mail about how it clearly didn't support audio I got a replacement through the post today...

The replacement is completely white... not at all Dr. Bott. branded and actually supports audio!

They've obviously realised that their claims were wrong so sent me another brand's adapter! If you were in the same boat as me I completely suggest constantly pointing out that their website previously did mention that it supported audio! :)

Cheers,

Phil

I ordered the Dr. Bott aswell, because I was expecting to be using it on the TV in the living room, however I haven't yet needed it.
I just found out that, when using Plex for watching videos, you can actually watch it in full screen while using the MacBook Pro.
When I plugged in my Dr. Bott HDMI to MDP in the TV, it doesn't show up in the sound preferences :/ But I can't be bothered to get a replacement.

On third picture, you can see firefox open with this thread, with the mouse being on the upper part of the thread.
This, in my opinion, is epic win. I love being able to watch movies, and still be able to use adium and whatnot.

Hi, for those who bought from Amazon with working audio, do they buy from " Pro_eb (PE - Pyrus Electronics) and Fulfilled by Amazon"? I believe the default seller is chosen for whoever seller with the lowest price, and I read some sellers shipped different cables from the picture one. If Pyrus Electronics is the one you guys bought from with working audio, I will get one myself.

Thanks.
