Well Said OP! Im gonna keep my iphone for a bit longer...But i may move to other forums, Theres a real distinct whiff of Elitism (mixed with sour grapes) in these forums lately.

in case anyone missed it the OP clearly stated that he had enjoyed and championed its unique abilities to others in the 3 years he had with the iphone. Why tear him down?

While I agree with the OP's points that he just posted, and I kind of agree with your post. I think the OP is failing to see the trees through the forest.

It isn't that we are elitists here, but rather he posts in a apple based forum, specifically for the iPhone, where he's waxing eloquently about the android phone he bought.

Take at it from this perspective. Say I joined a windows forum, and don't do much posting for a period of time. Then I post something along the lines that I just switched to OSX. Wouldn't I be labeled a troll and wouldn't my post come under question of why am I actually adding it to that forum?

Its not a question of free speech but rather finding the appropriate venue to communicate his jump to android.

This is nothing.

Just wait a few weeks until school is out everywhere, and we get the annual summer flood of kids who think their very existence is defined by their devices.

Thanks for the reminder.:eek::D

This is exactly why it was suggested to have a separate sub-forum. I don't think most people have a problem with the post, just where it is posted. However, it seems the powers that be don't agree with creating a new sub-forum, so things will remain status quo, for now.

That being said, now that kdarling has reminded us of them, I'd rather have these kind of threads than the ones we're about to get this summer. :D

I'm not sure I have been waxing lyrical about Android or the HTC... this thread is getting a little long now, but I'm pretty sure I'v only mentioned it twice, to say that I like it, which I do, it's early days though, but those impressions probably belong on another blog*.

What I was anticipating this blog* would be about was your reaction to the issues I raised about the Iphone (current and future) that prompted me to switch. I shouldn't have been a hard customer to hang on to... the barely disguised fanboy in me even feels a bit like a traitor, until I stab him in the back with some rational thinking...

Minus the slightly inflammatory title (the blame rests securely on my shoulders..) and my occasional mention of the competition (in my pocket), this post is about the Iphone... maybe a change in direction for further responses?
.........................................................................

(*sorry... this is not a blog is it... its a forum)

P.S. mac8867 "So, please, post away... and if it's too uncomfortable, open a new thread on your experience in the MBP forum under the title "Tether with Android or Iphone (iPhone) --- My experiences"
I appreciate your use of irony with a touch of schadenfreude... nice!

P.P.S. aggie... edit button... thanks... I like...

As a side note, I'm really tired of people yelling "troll" all the time. It doesn't make them look cool, and it is almost always incorrect to boot.

Most people have good intentions. Always give people the benefit of the doubt at first, and treat each newbie as well, a newbie.

Really. Would anyone here let their mother come to these forums and ask a question? Probably not... there's too many rude and crude responders. Sad, if you ask me.

Its not a question of free speech but rather finding the appropriate venue to communicate his jump to android.

Yep, but since there's no appropriate subforum, he clearly thought he was in the right spot.

Maybe the mods can create a seperate forum for Android people here since they don't understand that they should go to an Android dedicated forum? You are on an iPhone forum asking about what a HTC Desire phone can and can't do. Do you not see an issue with that?

Amen
Ask how to tether an HTC desire and how to root it on an iphone forum?
Nonsense.....

Adults also read the headers of sub forums and post in the appropriate section. Last time I checked, when I go to an iPhone forum I don't immediately think, "There it is, that's where I can post about my android phone!"

*ahem*

My opinion is that we should not have separate forums for products that compete with Apple.

Users should post threads about competing products in the forum for Apple's equivalent product. That's the most appropriate place for it and it's where others would search or browse if they were looking for such a thread.

If we had a single "Competing Products" forum, it would have a mixture of threads about rival smart phones, computers, MP3 players, media players, office productivity suites, web-based services, etc. Users would be unlikely to go browsing in such a forum. We also don't want a separate "competitors" forum for each type of Apple product. We're already doing our best to fight forum bloat.

There are good reasons to discuss Apple's competitors, not the least of which is comparison shopping. It's also instructive to consider how the competition stacks up feature by feature and how Apple might change their products to compete.

If someone tries to derail a thread simply because it's discussing Apple's competitors, report their post. On the flipside, if you think a user is posting about non-Apple products simply to troll among users of Apple's product, report that too. But when users are simply discussing the choices that consumers have, Apple vs. non-Apple, it's fine.

Because the whole thing was tinged with a little sadness that I just had to get off my chest...

I mean obviously I recognise that the Desire is a blatant rip of (even does multi touch)... and that apple are probably perfectly right to sue them for multiple patent infringements...

But it is a great phone (and I am a paid up mac fan boy...

You know that HTC are suing Apple for copyright infringement too right? :D

All of these "innovators" are as bad as each other. HTC makes better devices and software than Apple though. Fact :)

Apple slaps HTC with 20+ very relevant and often specific patents. HTC slaps apple with 5 very vague and debatable ones. And the second part of your post is an opinion.

You know, my wife played with someone's Android at work. She was impressed. Of course, my wife still has a 3G.

Now, if someone could just come up with some software that could take and convert iPhone Apps to be able to work on Android phones..... look out Apple.

Or vice-versa, no?

Oh wait, iPhone already appears to be able to run Android!

Hmmm, intriguing...

I don't think the OP is trying to troll.

I think he was honestly just trying to show what an ex-iphone owner's experience is with an different operating system.

I think for one thing, alot of use can be given the term "apple fanboy" and I don't really mind that. I love apple products and will try to defend them. But at the same time, I'm bit sad that all the haters think "apple fanboys" aren't open to having a fair and honest discussion. Even fanboys knows the weaknesses of the iphone. I find it find that there are just as many "Andriod fanboys" and yet, they aren't willing to talk about their weaknesses. It's quite hypocritical.

If you were referring to my post, I wasn't quoting the OP as a troll. It was someone who stated they knew for a fact HTC had superior hardware and software of the iPhone. That's trolling, IMO.

Some iFanboys defend the 256MB RAm in the iPad. Saying who needs more anyways? Well if its better than a netbook and laptop at surfing the web, I should be able to have more than 5 graphic featured sites open w/o re-loading the page, So the fanboys refuse to acknowledge that, and say well it only takes like 5 seconds to re-load the page anyhow. They defend the C2D in the 13" MBP, when a company like Apple, who claims to be so "innovative" couldn't innovate with Intel and make a i5 happen? Why didn't apple chuck the cd drive and use it to put in a iSeries chip?

I know the fanboys are gonna lable me as a troill because Apple is perfect, and i must not speak out against God Steve, but Apple has their pathetic weaknesses. I do like Apple though, juts not everything. I own an iPhone 3GS, and i have owned all the iPhones and ipod touches. I convinced my mother to get a Macbook pro for her self. (i use it more than her.)

I just switched from Android to the iPhone. Although the Android OS is crazy slick, there's not as much recognition as the iPhone. Meaning, everywhere you look, there's an app for that.

BTW...good luck on most Android forums. Mostly teenagers wanting to talk about the latest rap songs.

Come on 4G...processing power...can you say A4?

Ahhh, so trolling is something that doesn't fit with your entrenched world view...

I it now, someone talking about an Iphone (iPhone™) and the whole situation about owning an Iphone (iPhone™) through the legitimate contracts being not entirely ideal to the point of actually changing to another device without these shortcomings (which was not by any means an easy decision), is not the least bit relevant to a forum about the Iphone (iPhone™). Because the Iphone (iPhone™) is beyond criticism... sorry I forgot and stand corrected...

No, Troll is post that one makes for the sole purpuse of invoking a heated or angery responce from the forum as a whole.

I am really amazed by the Android love affair. I carry now one iPhone and two android devices around with me (nexus and incredible), as I do mobile support for my company. Besides the android notification system I really can't think of anything I would rather do on either android device over the iPhone.

The iPhone software is so much better. The android on screen keyboard is bad, and the email client for exchange is a joke. The widgets get old really fast and you will eventually see they are mostly useless. I just don't get it.

So if I go to a blackberry forum and brag about the iPhone, I'm trolling, but if I brag about the iPhone on an iPhone forum I'm NOT trolling. Each cellular phone has pros and cons. I still enjoy using my iPhone, but the software is dated, and the hardware need a re-design (exterior) I hope I'm not considered a troll because I voice my opinions.

Apple has some nice products, but paying $199 for a laptop with an old slow 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo seems like a major rip off to me. Esp because Intel is discontinuing the C2D later this year.

On the bright side, I really like the seamless design. I love OSX, the battery and trackpad. But all products have weak spots and good spots. A member who has been here for 4 years, can let us know. Just because a lot of you here are fanboys, doesn't mean the iPhone is perfect and flawless.

Yes, you've got it about right. Trolling isn't about having a particular opinion, it's about saying something, anything, just to provoke a fight. So yes, crowing about android on an iPhone forum is trolling and crowing about an iPhone on a bb forum is too. Having a legit discussion about the relative strengths of differen products is one thing, but starting a thread just to talk about how the competitor product you just bought is better is pretty much the definition of trolling.

/hahaha!!!! +1

BTW: I don't think the OP is trolling. I really do hate these forums.
Some other member: "Well then go somewhere else, nobody is forcing you to come here"
Me: No, your right but I like everything about this site except half of the douche members so I guess I'll have to cope, now ****&GTFOMD. :)

I feel for you OP.

Wait, what? Where'd you get that one from? Complete crap, I've been on an Android forum recently to get info about the Nexus and OS in general to help me decide if I should get it, and it's been very helpful, and not nearly as agressive as people are being here either.

And anyway, even if what you're saying was true, what idiot chooses their phone based on what people on the forums about it post about?
