[Merged] iPhone 5 / 2011 iPhone speculation thread

Face detection security.

One of my older phones has this and is very useful to secure my email account, pics, etc.

The tech is already there (front facing camera) so a simple software update would do.

Of course, a fingerprint reader would be better, but how would Apple integrate it without 'disrupting' the design?

iPhone 5:
~Verizon or multi-network
~Colors
~Antenna fix

iOS 5:
~UI overhaul; totally new look (surprise us, Apple)
~Accept some jailbreak apps to the App Store, like Infinidock and Winterboard

I know these were repeats.

And if Apple wants to just move the iPhone 4 to Verizon, call it the iPhone V4, rather than iPhone 4 or 4G. They might do 4G though cuz Verizon is switching to that. But the V could mean version or Verizon. Or both.

I think VZW will get a Flavor of type of iphone, Maybe like a " iphone HD or iphone 4G ", a device with 4 inch screen and LTE connectivity while the iphone 4 will only live on ATT and maybe t-mobile. The " iphone HD or iphone 4G " will be VZW only and maybe sprint.

I like the idea of "pimping options."

I wanna bitch slap my iPhone so bad, but I'm afraid it'll break the glass.

So perhaps in the new iteration the glass won't be prone to breaking, so I can beat that ass.

I hope I don't get modded for this, but the OP started it.:D

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boy and Girls, we have found our post of the year by Russiaone!

Hahahaha that was great. :p Always good to see a comical post around.

Take half off that list and maybe you have a chance to see it.

Solar power? 1GB of Ram? Jobs wont give you that unless you dont mind spending $1200 on the phone I doubt he even goes 64 GB on the HD. And it took him 3 years to finally upgrade the camera in the iP4.

He does need to make some good changes though because Android i think will pass him by in the next year.

ios V ?
-widgets much alike android but new and revolutionary (like what they said about multitasking :) :apple: )
-pimp feature( changing icons, custom slider etc.)
and all that other stuff u guys said
iphone 4G (like the iphone 3gs for iphone 3g but for iphone 4) or iPhone V
the only thing is worldwide compatibility only US would be able to support the 4g other contries would get angry unless they release a 4g version iphone in a later model like in the 6th or seventh gen iphone, but i would like to see customizable colours maybe color ware partner ship, you can just DIY it and change the colour of the back like i did i bought 4 different colours white, blue, red, chome brushed from some foreign iphone parts website i also bought a white home button all this cost 11 US for the each back and bought 6 US for home button you can also buy antenna covers that are coloured but u must remve the antenna put these pieces on the antenna and click em in but i wouldent risk that last one.

i have some requests for iOS 5.

Widgets
Updated UI design (yes the iphone design was cool when 2g hit, not anymore) bring me something sexy apple. I love a clean sexy UI.
Customizable lock screen
more sms, ringtones
animated weather on lock/homescreen
did i mention widgets
and please do something about notifications, cause they are hideous

etc etc

dont think iphone 5 will be that different from iphone 4

things I think we will see:
iOS 5: Duh, self-explanatory, more features (that we shoulda had in the first place :p )
Storage bump: 32 and 64 GB models
CPU bump: "A5" chip? A4 (Cortex-A8) isn't exactly new as it is.
A redesign of some sort: because everyones whining about the current antenna issue as it is...

things I think we might see:
Camera bump: (8 megapixel on the back, maybe a better front camera as well)

things we might not see:
Memory bump: just got bumped from 256 to 512 MB, I just see Apple holding off one more year before they bump again.
Retina Display: Duh, wont see this bumped for another 5 years. Although, maybe a bigger screen? or more sparkly-sharp looking screen could happen.

I could be here all day just talking about iOS improvements.

But as far as hardware goes, the main improvements i personally would like to see from the iPhone 4 are;

* The camera needs to be moved further away from the edge of the phone. Far too easy for a finger tip to end up in the photo, especially when asking other people to take a shot for you.
* 64GB
* Less 'harsh' design, i dont think the sharp edges of the Antenna are nice to hold
* Antenna fix (obviously)

Yes! It's a big problem.

I've taken to becoming a "leftie" when I take pictures. I find that if I hold the phone with the lens on the bottom right rather than the top left corner then I'm less likely to block the sensor but that then confuses me as to where the controls are because I'm really right handed.

If they don't move the camera then at least a software update to allow the button bar to be set to left or right side of the screen in landscape mode would be helpful.

I think there will be two released. One at the standard size and one at 3.7" screen but both with the same resolution. Also there will be a feature to sync to an iPad by plugging it physically in to it, just like a PC. The antenna design will of course be modified. Finally, flash will be announced as finally coming to iPhone / iPad.

I think it will probably let apps integrate better, not a lot i can ask anymore with multitasking

You made my day

Liquidmetal

What about the liquidmetal?? Apples got all the rights to use it and I reckon they might put it in the next iPhone if we're lucky.:D

since everyone loves widgets, why not have widgets appear when you put your phone horizontally?

i think that's a great idea.

I don't know if the iPhone will ever have a different screen size, but I was using my friends Droid X last night, and the 4.3 inch screen is amazing. I'd love it if there was a 4.3 inch screen on an iPhone. Typing on that screen is fantastic. It would be cool if they made 2 models, one with a 3.5 inch screen and one with a 4.3 inch screen. I'd just like the option.

Just about everything I would like to see has been listed already.

- Widgets would be cool. You could let developers put them in the App Store. They can be designed to be different sizes and fit along apps on the home screens. They would be able to display more information on the home screens if they take up more than one app space.

- Notifications are the single biggest problem with iOS clearly. It's just intrusive and annoying. Android and webOS do it way better and there is no doubt it will be something close to that next time around.

- A notification light like a Blackberry would be cool, not totally necessary though.

- I'd like to see the the home screen rotate into landscape when you rotate the phone.

- And definitely make more use of the lock screen too.

Alright. I'll have a go. Here's my (very) short list of requested features:

- custom SMS tones
- improved voice command recognition
- voice to text input
- Bluetooth 3.0/ 4.0
- live icons (along with the calendar app, the weather/ clock/ and compass apps should have live icons or make the weather, clock, and stock apps (compass?) into widgets
- improved multitasking: allow things to refresh/ check for updates in background (ex: mail/ facebook/ Twitter apps constantly refresh so they're always up to date)
- improved keyboard (Swype competitor? I've emailed Steve about this, and he said that they've tested it before, but found that it wasn't as good as their current keyboard...)
- live wallpapers (can download more from App Store)
- widget system (can download more from App Store)
- wireless sync/ cloud services
- much improved push notifications
- wireless hotspot feature (carrier's fault?)
- FaceTime over 3G/ 4G (carrier's fault )
- when installing updates/ new applications, the process should happen in the background so that it doesn't "rip" you out of the App Store app (a message could notify you that the process is taking place/ has finished) -> know what I mean?
- "Kill All" multitasking apps button (don't know where you'd place it in the OS, but it sure would beat going through each individual application and closing it)
- enhanced mail (star favorites, etc.)
- refined folders (be able to have more than 12 apps in a folder -> ex: all games can fit in one Game folder, instead of multiple folders spread out across the screen)
- free voice navigation service (either it's free or it becomes part of MobileMe)
- major UI overhaul (current rows of icon after icon get boring... iOS could use something really fresh...)
- get rid of YouTube app (m.youtube.com is far better than what Apple's currently serving)
- faster Safari/ better performance
- App Store app constantly checks for app updates, etc.
- smarter OS (ex: if you type an email and can't send it because you're not connected to the internet, instead of the message "Cannot send mail," etc. it should say "Will send message in background once internet connection is reestablished" and other little goodies like that)

*:apple: iPhone availability on Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile alongside AT&T

This sounds almost exactly like Android...

Message or notification light like the crackberry. Hate have to constantly turning on the phone to check if there's an update.
