Touchscreen on the back of the phone with special gestures, 64gb, Apple A5(?) processor based on the dual-core Arm Cortex A9 processors, 8mp camera, slightly improved battery life, HD video out, possible RFID support that would also include wireless payment options for their new iPay service, based on the 150+ million iTunes accounts that are already linked to credit card data.
As for iOS 5, we will likely see an overhaul to the appearance of the UI. The iPhone interface is growing stale. The light blue pinstripes need to go! I'd also expect better file management and connectivity with the cloud, along with faster code execution via the new xCode 4, which according to AppleInsider, allows iOS code to run up to 60% faster with better memory management, which should mean better applications that crash less often. We will also likely see a more streamlined notification interface. Maybe also dynamically updated application icons, like the calendar now, but for other icons like weather, with an API for developers to use backgrounding to change them on the fly to present useful information to the user. Lastly, I would expect some sort of dashboard like implementation. Maybe a landing screen, maybe able to be activated on the lock screen, maybe that is also a part of the new notification system. It would allow users to view all their latest information, including news feeds, mail, texts, weather, calendar for the day, and to-dos all in a convenient location. They might also bring some of that location based icon stuff from the patents in.
Colors? They can't even get white!
Alright, here are my predictions:
iPad (2nd gen):
> Front camera with facetime, people have already found a macbook camera sized hole in the frame
> Faster CPU (A5?)
> iOS5 preinstalled
iPhone (4GS?):
> Improved cameras
> More ram
> Faster CPU (A5?)
> iOS5 preinstalled
> Antennae fix
iPod touch (5th gen):
> LED flash
> Improved cameras
> More ram
> Faster CPU (A5?)
> 16GB model
> iOS5 preinstalled
> Front Mic and speaker for wifi calls
iOS 5:
> Simple file system for organising videos, music, photos, and documents (PDF, DOC, PAGES)
> Mobile versions of iWork and iLife for all devices (iLife without iDVD or iWeb)
> Ability to delete all aplications except app store and settings (which can be redownloaded from the app store. Who uses the stocks app anyway, and if you have a 3rd party browser, you don't need safari)
> Bluetooth file sharing app
> Side scrolling folders to fit more than 12 apps
> Subfolders
> Customizeable multitasking-Closing an app with the home button does not automatically add the app to the multitasking bar, but you can add it by tapping + from the app in the multitasking bar
> Close all app button in music control bar
> Downloadable Lock screen widgets
> Youtube app redesign, more features such as like, dislike, reply to comments, better UI, HD option like the iPad version
> Calls over wifi, like facetime
> Support for full AV out in all apps, might also need a hardware update
iPod nano (7th gen):
> Revert back to larger screen, still multitouch with a "lite" version of iOS, possibly video camera like 5th gen, virtual scroll wheel
> Ability to download widgets from app store, synced from PC (no wifi)
> Preinstalled iOS5 lite
iPod shuffle (5th gen):
> Larger storage, maybe more colours
> Possibly a small screen just to display the song
iPod classic (7th gen):
> SSD storage
> multi touch display
Yea, like a larger retina display? I don't really see apple doing this, but it would be a nice touch and probably make it worth the money more, although they would probably bump the price up loads. Plus developers would have to design apps with 4096x3072 resolution, which I can't see happening either. Possibly in about 5 years time though, when they get into "super HD" (retina display TVs FTW!)I agree, except the iPad 2G should have a higher-resolution display.
iphone (4g)
4g support- with att rolling out 4g in 2011 apple will want to get on that. im sure they are in close terms with att for when att exactly plans to have 4g ready.
8 mp back camera- there are already rumors that apple ordered this.
front camera boost- will have a 2.x mp camera. not much more than it has now.
a little different hardware design, not too much but something little.
720p out of dock connector.
i highly doubt apple will boost anything like cpu or ram just because it cost apple more to make the iphone 4 this year. unless flash and ram memory go down this year big time we wont see anything big. if it does go down then apple might boost it.
OS 5- this year is gonna be all about ios. a brand new UI, new notification system, and home screen widgets. Since ios hasnt really gotten anything big lately and the iphone hardware was a big improvement apple will put its software engineers to work and get this together. as usual because apple will say this ipod touch 3rd gen and 3gs will get limited features while ip4 ipod 4, and new new iphone will get everything. 2nd gen ipod touch and iphone 3g will be out all together.
i think everyone here has great ideas but they have to remember that all this will cost apple more money and they want to keep the price to around $180 to build. i think in two more years when all this gets even cheaper it will go into the iphone.
These. Plus Custom SMS tones. Seriously, why haven't custom sms tones been added yet?
I heard Apple might be pushing iPhone 5 as early as Jan 2011. Is it still worth it for me to get iPhone 4 now? I'm planning to get one.
here's my two cents
iPhone 5:
-dual core 1.2ghz LOL. Do you have any idea what the power consumption will be like?
-1024mb RAM LOL. Apple is known for adding memory and such in increments. I'm guessing they'll get 768MB (like the Desire HD) in 2 years.
-full HD retina display BWHAHAHAHAH. Good luck getting a 630ppi screen. HAHAHAHA. btw, 300 or so ppi is the max the human eye can see (distinguish individual pixels). Thus, you'd be making an uselessly high res display (which would require way more processing power, and thus more battery juice to power) for little improvement to the normal eye.
-8mp rear camera w/ flash More mp≠better quality pictures. A CCD sensor would improve pictures far more than simply tacking on more mp's.
-3mp front camera w/ flash Unnecessary. Why would you need a 3mp camera for video calling and the occasional snap?
-similar form factor w/ fixed antena design
- brighter display (maybe OLED) Jobs already said he thinks OLED is inferior to IPS.
- 128gb size option They haven't even gotten to 64GB, what makes you think they'll use (extremely expensive) 128GB NAND chips?
- improved battery With your 1.2GHz DC proc and full HD screen? ...yeah.
iOS 5:
-wireless printing Already in iOS4.2.
-wireless sync Wi-Fi Sync in Cydia.
- faster JavaScript in safari
- dynamic icons
- more landscape ( like iPad is currently but for iPhone )
- faster loading camera Is it not fast enough? My camera app takes 2 to 3 seconds to start up. A second if I leave the app in the background. Good enough for most.
- crash reporter w/ reason for crash
- diagnostic mode
- greater customization (lock screen text, etc)
- smaller footprint (500mb is way to big for a mobile os) What do you want? More features = bigger OS. Hi-res icons? Default apps? Um, they can't exactly shrink the OS without removing features...
- faster start up time

For iOS 5, I want to see Apple making more use of the lockscreen; put some info there!

Isn't iPhone 5 just the Verizon CDMA version...
You guys wanna be talking about iPhone 6.
