I just want a bigger screen.
Four inch?
4.3?
No more than that.
I'm not saying that the iPhone screen ISN'T big. But I would love it so much more with a bigger screen.

They might also bring some of that location based icon stuff from the patents in.

this is iPhone 6 material. Look at the difference between iphone 3g and 3gs


i expect they will edit the materials it is made from and increase the storage size but the overall design, screen, memory will remain the same.
 
I say, they will use liquid metal for iPhone5(i hope so)
It will be sleek and not fragile as i4..

ios5 new notification and new lock screen or homescreen in some way,...

So far they added new pages, spotlight,app tray,folders... Now they could get us some bar with info, which would looks like webos one.
Any notification aggregate.
But they'll gave us surely some unecessary new functions :))

Yea, like a larger retina display? I don't really see apple doing this, but it would be a nice touch and probably make it worth the money more, although they would probably bump the price up loads. Plus developers would have to design apps with 4096x3072 resolution, which I can't see happening either. Possibly in about 5 years time though, when they get into "super HD" (retina display TVs FTW!)

4g support- with att rolling out 4g in 2011 apple will want to get on that. im sure they are in close terms with att for when att exactly plans to have 4g ready.

8 mp back camera- there are already rumors that apple ordered this.

front camera boost- will have a 2.x mp camera. not much more than it has now.

a little different hardware design, not too much but something little.

720p out of dock connector.

i highly doubt apple will boost anything like cpu or ram just because it cost apple more to make the iphone 4 this year. unless flash and ram memory go down this year big time we wont see anything big. if it does go down then apple might boost it.

OS 5- this year is gonna be all about ios. a brand new UI, new notification system, and home screen widgets. Since ios hasnt really gotten anything big lately and the iphone hardware was a big improvement apple will put its software engineers to work and get this together. as usual because apple will say this ipod touch 3rd gen and 3gs will get limited features while ip4 ipod 4, and new new iphone will get everything. 2nd gen ipod touch and iphone 3g will be out all together.

i think everyone here has great ideas but they have to remember that all this will cost apple more money and they want to keep the price to around $180 to build. i think in two more years when all this gets even cheaper it will go into the iphone.

iPhone 4 currently costs ~$190 to build according to iFixIt. Give or take a few bucks. On the contrary a Blackberry Torch costs ~$195 to build. Add in the fact that the torch has a weaker processor, much less battery life, and a 3 inch touch screen, its no wonder the torcch had a sale after 3 days. I can see the iPhone manufacturing cost raising to at the most $200 in the next revision. Either way Apple is making a great phone while also making a significant killing profit wise. I still cannot comprehend on the fact a BB Torch costs more to make than an iPhone 4.

SMS/Messaging Features
One of the most excited features, at least in my opinion, is the ability to customize SMS (Text) Tones for individual contacts. This is something that should make use of ringtones a lot more, and there are a TON in Cydia if you haven't notice or are too lazy to make your own. There have been apps in the past to allow this, but now with 4.2 we get a step closer to actual custom tones for texts. Your still limited to the defaults, but I'm sure a winterboard theme will allow you to replace the audio.

There has also been the addition of a shortcut button within a Text Message to initiate a FaceTime call, which makes it alot easier than exiting out, and locating your contact in the FaceTime/Phone app. A nice little addition.
 
I heard Apple might be pushing iPhone 5 as early as Jan 2011. Is it still worth it for me to get iPhone 4 now? I'm planning to get one.

I think apple will release something like the 4Gs, just with slightly improved features and iOS 4.2 (they already announced it and some of the features at the September 1st event), but the iPhone 4 should be fully compatible with the update.

iPhone 5:
-dual core 1.2ghz
-1024mb RAM
-full HD retina display
-8mp rear camera w/ flash
-3mp front camera w/ flash
-similar form factor w/ fixed antena design
- brighter display (maybe OLED)
- 128gb size option
- improved battery
iOS 5:
-wireless printing
-wireless sync
- faster JavaScript in safari
- dynamic icons
- more landscape ( like iPad is currently but for iPhone )
- faster loading camera
- crash reporter w/ reason for crash
-diagnostic mode
- greater customization (lock screen text,etc)
- smaller footprint (500mb is way to big for a mobile os)
- faster start up time

-full HD retina display BWHAHAHAHAH. Good luck getting a 630ppi screen. HAHAHAHA. btw, 300 or so ppi is the max the human eye can see (distinguish individual pixels). Thus, you'd be making an uselessly high res display (which would require way more processing power, and thus more battery juice to power) for little improvement to the normal eye.
-8mp rear camera w/ flash More mp≠better quality pictures. A CCD sensor would improve pictures far more than simply tacking on more mp's.
-3mp front camera w/ flash Unnecessary. Why would you need a 3mp camera for video calling and the occasional snap?
-similar form factor w/ fixed antena design
- brighter display (maybe OLED) Jobs already said he thinks OLED is inferior to IPS.
- 128gb size option They haven't even gotten to 64GB, what makes you think they'll use (extremely expensive) 128GB NAND chips?

iOS 5:

I would love it if they allow us to customize the following

Icons

SMS/MMS sounds etc

I wish it was made in the colors the iPods are in, it would be cool to have multiple colors, althouh they are still having issues with the White phone

Other than the customization I am happy, also faster CPU would be nice but eh I love my iP4 just the way it is to.

I'm looking forward to the day when people stop paying attention to the processor speed and look at performance. I know there isn't a 0-60 time or quarter mile for these things, but surely there is an objective measure of performance that matters to non-nerds. I say this as a semi-nerd.
