We will most likely get enhancements to the current iPhone 4,like a faster CPU, 4G Network Compatibility, Bumper Requirement Alleviated and Facetime over mobile broadband.

Look for it to be released as the iPhone 4GS. The actual iPhone 5 probably won't show up until 2012.

One simple reason - Jobs hates flash.

No he doesn't, he wants the best profit from his already expensive phones. With flash you can:

Watch all of Youtube (including videos), Muzu, We7 etc. and this is free, and will reduce iTunes music sales.

Flash apps are normally free, and can access your cameras and microphone. Which will lead in to a reduction in the sales of the app store.

You can watch free movies, which are normally in flash; this will affect iTunes movies downloads.

S.Jobs doesn't like the fact the he'll lose money and also some flash intensive games could crash your iDevice, as they're underpowered. The Tegra 2 can run flash respectably, for a tablet.

There haven't been many rumours, but I thinks it'll have:

Likely:
- 8mp camera with larger lens.

Why do you think they are going to implement an 8MP camera? That is likely a downgrade from the current 5MP hardware.

In order to make good use of a larger lens with an 8MP sensor they will need to refract that light to a larger sensor. This dictates a thicker device to obtain the necessary focal length.

Do you really think that is going to happen?

I don't know.

I think, if there is any space left for the camera to extend backward to, they'll fill that up, therefore having a larger lens. If you look at the teardowns there's still some space for a slightly larger lens.

Also, an 8mp is a bit of an overkill for a phone, as even an iMac can't display all of the pixels in a 5mp shot. And, you're not going to use a phone to take a photo that's going on the side of a building. However, Apple can just say that it has a better camera, even though, on a 3.5 inch screen (or 4 inch, hint hint) higher mp won't improve the quality.

But you know what I would really like? A 1080p vr @ 30fps.

Competition

I doubt next years iteration will be called the "iPhone 5". Something along the lines of how the 3G went to the 3GS. It'll be a minor tech bump and something will be done about the antenna to shut people up but nothing too drastic. My 2 cents -- which are worthless -- thanks for reading.

I highly doubt that Apple™ will not make any major changes because now that there are a lot of phones out to "compete" against it they really have to "up" their game

What will Apple call the iPhone 5?

I don't think they are really doing to call it the iPhone 5... What about iPhone 4Gs... Lmao

I'd just like to state the iPhone will NEVER increase in storage. Let's take a look at the main storage models. 8, 16, 32. If it gets 64 gigs, it's going to affect the sales of the 64 gigabyte iPod Touch. The same goes for the iPod Touch. 8, 16*, 32, and 64. If the iPod Touch gets 128 gigabytes of storage, that's REALLY going to affect the sales of iPod Classics.
*A couple of years ago.

So my guess is.
-Instead of underclocking the A4, they'll probably have it function at a higher clock rate, if not at full capacity, along with a newer battery to help keep the functionality.
-5 megapixel rear camera.
MAYBE they MIGHT add a 1 megapixel front facing, but that's stretching it.
512 megabytes of RAM. Let's be realistic. The first two iterations of iPhone had 128, third had 256, and now 512. They only added 512 megabytes because to the iPhone 4 because itstill has to perform it's regular cellular functions, along with the new hardware, and the newer utilites in iOS 4. Remember "iOS 4 was designed with the iPhone 4 in mind." Now, the iPod Touch 3G, 4, and iPhone 3Gs run fine with iOS 4. Nothing spectacular, but they still do what they have to do. Upon speculation of the iPod Touch 4, most people thought it would get a RAM increase, but it didn't, because it doesn't NEED it. It runs "fine" with 256.
-Retina display.

In short, everything the previous iPhone had with a slightly faster speed. Think 3Gs from the 3G.

Now interface wise. These are the things that I want to see, but know won't get added.
-An option to turn off multitasking. I'm in the minority, I see little use with the new multitasking. I shouldn't have to jailbreak it to disable some of the features, that should have been OPTIONS in the first place.
-An option to adjust shadows, and gradients on Wallpaper.

They probably wouldn't call it that because it's already fast enough. It'll probably just be called the iPhone 5. Besides, if it doesn't have 4G data speeds, the name would be misleading.

It's probably just going to be iPhone 5. I think they don't what to have to come up with a new name every year, it will get confusing after a while, hell alot of people call it the iphone 4 "iPhone 4g". I think it's easier for everyone just to number them

No matter what they call it, it will be the iPhone 5 as it will be the 5th iPhone. But I'd guess 4GS. 4G radios (HSPA+) will almost certainly added, plus a dual core processor, so 4GS would be a fitting name.

probably 4G as AT&T has in their advertisements for 4g show that apple will be supporting HSPA+. Chances are they accidentally gave away the secret for the next release.

Way to resurrect an old thread.

One point of correction is your "3GS to 3G" comment. I'm afraid you are confused. The 3G was 95% identical to the 2G iPhone. The 3GS has completely different internals, and was a major upgrade. In fact the iPhone4 uses the same chips as the 3GS.

The incremental upgrade you are referring to was the 3GS->iPhone4.

Glad I could help you out with that.

P.S. 1.2ghz dual core iPhone5 with new hardware coming this July.

While you are you right, I was confused a bit, but, I technically didn't resurrect this thread. It was on the first page. The person above me resurrected it. I would indeed LIKE to see a dual core processor, but I don't want to get my hopes up just yet. Hopefully if they have another teardown/leak in a couple of months.

Observation fail.

On topic:
There are so many threads about this.
Regarding the specs, we all know that we'll see a dual core processor and better battery life, and possibly a better camera.
I'd want to see a bigger screen, anywhere between 3.7" to 4", Maybe they could move the home button? The phone itself doesn't have to become that much larger.

iOS 5 wise..
I want to see a proper notification system, like the android.
I'd also like to see more lockscreen integration.
Also, i'd like a file system so that i can place a file, do minor editing using apps, and then be able to transfer it over to my Mac again. NOT with could though.
I use DropBox for now.
