Who cares?

Really...oooh aaah the iphone is more popular take that!! What are we 12??

I am not switching to AT&T, I live in New York and I will not pay a phone company $90 a month for a service they can't provide me. AT&T sucks, end of argument, I don't care how cool the iPhone is, if I can't get my money's worth from AT&T then I will not be going with them.

Is it so hard to accept for the über fanboys that some people actually want to get what they pay for when they sign up with a telecom? The Droid is good enough of an alternative and I will be getting it because on Verizon I get my money's worth--I get SERVICE EVERYWHERE. I don't care if the iPhone never comes to Verizon, I will not be switching, and not because I'm a Verizon fanboy, I don't love the company but I get what I pay for with them. If the day comes that AT&T stops being the joke of a telecom that it currently is then I'd have no problem switching. But it IS NOT and will NOT be anytime soon. I'd rather have a decent phone and get to use it than the iPhone and be miserable because I can't use it as it's meant to be used on the sh*ttiest network in America.

Sounds more like you work for Verizon.

After several bad experiences with "slide" phones - I wouldn't go anywhere near the Droid. I thought the whole point of a touch-sensitive screen was to do away with the need for an old-school keyboard?

I wish Droid all the best luck. iPhone can use some competition.

It's a pretty good device on its own. But it cannot beat the iPhone still. Years have passed and yet no phone can actually be considered an "iPhone-killer" .. so much for their marketing..

The real killer for me was the lack of gestures. You'd be surprised how much you miss those.

At first I didn't like the idea of the physical keyboard, but it's my favorite part of the phone for gaming :D

To each his own... although it's nice to have more options rather than less imo.

I actually like the eris more than the motorola. Too bad it ships with android is 1.5. I agree it would be nice if the iPhone was more open and had widgets and customization options that didn't require a jailbreak. It's funny that apple wants you to "think different" yet they are essentially making us all clones.

At& T does not suck. My service is better with At&T than it was with Verizon. I wish people would just say the service didn't work for them and not just plain out say, blah blah sucks.

for you maybe, but if you average the complaints and the praises of majority users the evidence points to the contrary.

My reception (Northern and Western NJ) has degraded significantly in the last 3 months.

Yeah I bought the droid on Friday too. I had an ipod touch for over a year and I can say that both have things that are better then one another. Droid is more open and customizable as well as a physical keyboard. Iphone can sync better has more apps and better media programs, it is an iphone afterall. I had the same problem with the batter cover and lost it, but luckily found it a few hours later in my car. I think its easy because you can't really feel the cover is gone because it is so thin. I solved the problem by bending 2 of the four prongs just a tiny bit. Now if it does slide to the open position it does not fall off. I would try it!

<waives hand> These are not the droids you are looking for.

*Waves. :D Anyway, OP, this is unsatisfactory for a new product and you should get a replacement. This thread should be linked to xciteme's troll threads.

Multimedia will always be an iPhone's strength I'd say. I haven't played with it on my Droid yet but I've heard the media player is pretty badly designed. That and the on screen keyboard (but it does have a real one I know ;) )are my only gripes right now but I'm liking everything else so far with the Droid.
Agreed. I wish they would have spent a little more time on the Droid's multimedia capabilities & UI.

Is the Droid the new Iphone Crusher?

After seeing all the commercials and listening to all the hype of the new Droid from Motorola I have to say they know how to market a phone. There is nothing like watching on TV some "stealth bombers" bomb a little town with little metallic balls containing a what............a cell phone. Good visual effects aside I recently had time to play with the Droid. I had full expectations that this was it, the godsend to crush the iPhone once and for all.....well lets just say it was not sent from anything divine. Lets just say the styling of it, if it was a baby would be something only a mother could love. Now to be fair it does post some pretty cool specs and features. It is lightning fast which is pretty sweet when on a 3g network that's not in any major city. If your in the city you have to deal with millions of user's depleting the network which is not the phones fault. the video quality was alright, certainly not the DVD quality that it boasts about. The one grip I have about the iPhone is no full keyboard (this still irks me some but its not really that big of a issue). The Droid plays up the lack of apples keyboard by adding there own. The problem is that it falls flat on its face when it comes to a keyboard. The buttons are flat which to me made it a pain to type a text. The phone quality was good however and that's what really matters with a cell phone right.........?

Over all my impression of the Droid was not a good one. I think I will keep sticking to my 3g that has lasted all this time. Both phones have there shortfalls but with a upgrade and as much hype as the Droid keeps getting I feel its shortfalls stand out a little more. I guess will have to wait until another iPhone Contender steps forward.

*hands newbie flame retardant suit*

FYI, this is like the 500th "Droid isn't actually that good" thread, and you are about to get reemed...

*groan*

What would be different and refreshing around here, is a post where the author actually is old and/or educated enough to know how to use "their" and "they're"... instead of just using "there" in every spot. Ditto for "your" and "you're".

Or they could be old and/or educated enough to realize that not everyone is a native English speaker. *shrug*

I mix up 'ser' and 'estar' so much when I speak Spanish and I'm thankful people don't harp on me for it.

And now some time for some morbid curiosity...

@OP, I'm interested in what city you tried the Droid in? I'm in Los Angeles, arguably a pretty large city, and my Droid is lightning fast on Verizon's 3G network. In fact, Verizon's 3G network is so much faster than AT&T's that it made up for the Droid's slower rendering when I tested it against my 3GS. So I'm surprised you found such a difference between being in and out of the city.

Not anymore. Yes, it "matters" but that is now arguable where as 10 years ago, it was critical. Phones do a lot more these days and emphasis for call quality has been reduced.

People that truly use smartphones don't even do that much talking since it allows them so many other ways to communicate.

Surprisingly I was able to test it out for the company I work for here in New York City. I apologize for the spelling but I was typing fast and the Laptop I am using is one of those little netbook things that has such a small keyboard. Here in New York its usually around certain points of the day that the network gets bogged down. Not being a native from New York I can't say if this is a everyday occurrence but since I've been here for a a couple of weeks I've noticed it. Actually I am still using the Droid and its sorta grown on me. I'm just so used to using my iphone that this has a learning curve. Out in the "country" it did seem like the 3g was faster.

Of course. You picked the one city bigger than mine. ;)

I have switched to the Droid for good, but that's for a multitude of reasons...

Verizon calls their entire network 3G even though it's made up of EVDO and EVDO rev a. EVDO is similar to AT+T edge speeds so your fast connection must have been EVDO rev a while the other poster must have had a regular EVDO connection.

Speeds will vary on the Verizon network depending on if you have an EVDO connection or a EVDO rev a connection even though your droid says you have a 3G connection.

Sigh, EVDO rev 0 is still quite a bit faster than edge. It's not a point worth arguing since Verizons whole network is now EVDO rev A, and has been since 2007.
