It just doesn't make sense why would Apple release a new phone for a specific carrier 6 months after they updated it and 6 months before they update it again. Do you know how mad people on Verizon would be for an iPhone 4 coming out in 1/11 and then iPhone 5 coming out for both carriers 6/11. Just doesn't make sense.

I think the earliest it will be is still 6/11 if not even 6/12.

Apple has a CDMA iPhone, just needs Verizon to ink a deal

Cant get enough of this rumor

Today, The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple wrote an interesting article that should give a lot of confused people some perspective on this whole Verizon iPhone business. Not surprisingly, Dalrymple reports that Apple already has a fully functional CDMA iPhones, lurking in the shadows of 1 Infinite Loop, that is ready to go into production at a moment’s notice. The problem, according Dalrymple, is that Apple and Verizon have yet to finalize a deal. Having the iPhone hardware lying on a shelf waiting to be mass produced is beneficial for both companies; as it won’t have to scramble to make up for lost time once the deal is struck. Apple also has a long history of developing products well in advance — a good example of this was its Intel-compatible version of OS X. So why then did Bloomberg so confidently report that Verizon will have the iPhone in January? That could simply be a negotiating tactic, something which would not at all be out of the ordinary.

Of course they already have a CDMA iPhone. Anyone who thinks that they don't already have one of these built is kidding themselves. It's similar to how they had Intel-compatible versions of OS X hidden away in the lab just in case they ever decided to move away from PowerPC.

Hopefully this comes out by at least January. I'm sure they would like to have it for the holiday season, but especially seeing the problems some people are having with the present iPhones, perhaps a little more testing is in order.

Offensive scenario: Verizon release, redesigned phone.

I'm going to pretend that never could happen. But if it did......

With recent rumors (yet again) of a Verizon release, and clearly a PR nightmare with the Iphone 4....no. They couldn't possibly stoop that low could they?

I think "PR nightmare" is a bit much. This is no Tylenol or Bhophal. No one is getting hurt or dying, Apple is not rapidly losing market share. Not even every iPhone 4 user is experiencing the issue. People are STILL lining up and putting themselves on reservation lists to buy the phone.

Verizon is not getting the iPhone b/c Verizon does not want the iPhone. If Verizon was getting the iPhone they wouldn't be taking jabs at it right now. VZW's CEO said no iPhone anytime soon too. Get over it.

Thank you for putting me at ease. ;)

Yeah, PR nightmare is a stretch, but I'm sure they would be happier without it.

I love my phone, just would suck if that actually happened. F it delete this thread please, this forum doesn't need any more negativity.

This whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. All phones can experiance signall loss. Granted it may be more likely with the iphone. But everyone i know who has one including me have had no issues.
I cant drop signal even when i try to!!!

Verizon has explicitly stated that they want the iPhone.

They don't have it now though, do they? So it makes perfect sense for them to attack it. Especially since when they do get it they won't be able to make their own advertising campaigns for it just like AT&T can't.

They're going to get it. But I'm sure it won't be this year which gives my early termination fee with AT&T some time to prorate ;)

Yes, under their terms. They wanted the iPhone when Jobs gave them first shot at it too... under their terms. They want a custom iOS. Apple wants to be the sole shot caller on iOS.

Hey I want to eat a gallon of ice cream without gaining weight or getting sick.

I think you're right in that that's what prevented Verizon from getting the iPhone on day one, but now that they know what they missed out on they are ready to do anything.

Judging by your own signature, the iPhone for VZW is coming. But not this year.

PR nightmare? Really? I've never actually met a person in real life that doesn't think the iPhone 4 is the best yet.

If and when iPhone does come out on Verizon, who's to say that it's going to perfect and have no issues. Just a thought.

The only reason Verizon is saying *right now* that they don't want the iPhone is because they want to sell as many Android phones as they can while they wait for the Verizon iPhone to be officially announced. It would be stupid for them to say they are getting or wanting the iPhone right now, since many would wait for it to come out and it could affect current phone sales.

Back to the question, though. Yes, if a redesigned iPhone came out in January on Verizon, it would be a major blow to current iPhone upgraders. On the other hand, unless Verizon's iPhone is LTE, I'd wager that the iP4 on AT&T would still be considerably faster than a CDMA iPhone on Verizon. Maybe less consistent, but definitely faster. So I'd stick with AT&T anyway... not to mention that a Verizon iPhone would ease the burden on AT&T and probably cause an improvement in service anyway. And let's just see how that mighty Verizon network holds up when MILLIONS of people upgrade or switch to iPhone 4 on their network!

This will be the hilarious part. People who have yelled and cried for a Verizon phone will suddenly realize what happens when their beloved network is suddenly slammed with millions of new iPhone users sucking up gobs and gobs of data on their network.

Personally, I look forward to them moving and freeing up some bandwidth on the AT&T network. Then we'll have "When is Sprint getting the iPhone!!!!" threads.

It's *already* that way - the UMTS levels that AT&T supports give actual speeds somewhat higher than even the theoretical speeds on EVDO - plus, UMTS has a lot more room to increase bandwidth as compared to EVDO, HSPA+ being one example.

But that has to be tempered against a) spotty coverage for 3G across the US and b) those weird "I have 5 bars but no data is moving on my iPhone 4" problems. I recently made a 1000 mile roadtrip and really counted on my Droid more than my iPhone 4 for traffic and weather updates. EDGE pretty much stinks...

Verizon iPhone?

I am thinking about getting a new phone and can't find how much the iPhone 4 on Verizon will be? Will a data package be required? Will the actual phone still cost $200 like on AT&T?

Hope you an help!

It will be $200 like ATT. You need a data package. The Verizon guy told me it is coming out tomorrow. Better go line up at your Verizon store, Hurry.

Unless you're trolling, there is no iPhone planned for Verizon.

I am sure it is planned (due to Verizon having a large part of the US market) but no just yet, (I think iPhone 5 will come to Verizon for sure). As long as Verizon still use CDMA for voice and Data the iPhone will not be on that network.

They are planning to have a pretty strong deployment for their LTE network for early summer next year (starting late this year with some limited markets), that would be the right time for the iPhone to show up in there on a brand new spanking network !
