Well, the professional space they're really targeting are the creative professionals who are all using Wacom digitizers hooked to 5K iMacs. So having a monitor connected to a beastly tower would be a step back, actually, while this Studio may get them to ditch their Wacom tablets (depending on the real-life accuracy, which remains to be seen).

Doesn't the new SurfaceBook have a Skylake processor? Because that's the only thing with the requisite oomph Intel is putting out right now?

Right the point its that they've neglected it for three years a little longer won't make any difference.

Surface Studio is by far the best looking desktop PC I have ever seen. Before it it was the iMac. It is expensive, but if you add 1TB of SSD to the iMac they cost about the same. The downside is 8GB of RAM in the base model for 2999$.

The Studio does not have 1TB SSD. It has a "Rapid hybrid drive"

The Studio's display is 4500 x 3000. It look sleek and functional. I never thought that Microsoft would come out with a PC that tempted me so much! If only it could run macOS. :(

The bravery to be so shamelessly derivative.

Derivative is as derivative does...

Can't innovate my ass.

But seriously, Microsoft continues to make excellent hardware. Software improvement is slower, but it's coming along.

Every Apple fan should applaud this because it is good for the ecosystem to get such amazing competition.

Getting tired of the references to the competition and how it is good. The big response from Apple up to this point has been new watch colors and a phone with the antennas moved to the edges. Come on dude.

Yes, saw this on another thread.

LOVE it.

This is exactly what I wanted the iMac to be: a TB display with the iMac G4 trick arm.

This is a HUGE cannon blast across Apple's bow. Mr. Nadella is making the right moves at Microsoft.

I'm now more excited than I've been in a LONG time for an Apple event.

But this time is not because I expect (insanely) great things, but just to see if Apple has an answer to this.

As I said in another thread:

Damn it Apple, get your head out of your iOS!!

THIS is innovation.
If Apple has an answer, it's NOT going to be tomorrow. I don't think the iMac or Mac Pro will be discussed at all, they'll be rolled out in January alongside the new Thunderbolt display....at which point the media will somehow rationalize Apple creating a product in 2 months instead of the months/years of work they've been putting into it.

Tech companies should really stop with these kind of overly planned product launches. Apple included. Everything is scripted. All the jokes are at best unfunny and irrelevant, at worst they are pure cringe. Jobs era presentations were mostly scripted sure, but at least it felt genuine and didn't feel like the preschool recitals. Elon Musk is doing pretty well during the product launches these days, but he is the exception.

I watched the event live and this has to be perhaps the best product line released this year and one of the best this decade.

Microsoft have really paid attention to every aspect of the Surface Studio, from it's intricate design mechanisms such as the screws, springs, it's peripherals and the design of their OS for the Surface Studio and the stage and presentation looked very nice.

Their attention to detail, including how they vision user to use the Surface Book has really brought their product to life. Heck, even their promo ads in the event were some of the best I've seen.

They've definitely been taking cues from Apple in their ads, vision and the intricacies of the design and dare I say, they've beat them at their own game at this stage. The way the Surface Studio folds down was a piece of engineering genius and definitely something that creators would use rather than being a gimmicky feature. The Surface Dial was also impressive.

Microsoft are finally really challenging the status quo with a product line that looks highly promising. I love the competition and hopefully this will give Apple a kick up the a** and start taking the Mac lineup seriously again.

Would definitely recommend anyone to watch the live event to get a better appreciation of the product.

You may not know this, but MS scheduled this event last month, well before there was even rumors of Apple having a media event on the 27th
You seriously believe that Microsoft operates on the same intel pipeline that you do? You and Microsoft share the same COP (common operating picture). The users here are off the charts these days.
