the iPad had enabled him to switch from the iPhone to Android devices without missing out on Apple’s world. “I’ve been increasingly on the fence seeing the new Android applications and the ability to tether my phone,” said Mr. Forrest, “but the iPad really allowed me to make the switch. Now I have my toe in the iPhone ecosystem, but I’m not constrained by the limitations of the phone.”

Testing the Android Waters

This is too easy a target. MS is headed for cliff on this one, I wonder if it will be as steep for WinMob7 as it was for the Kin.

You mean the phone that can't make a phone call without sinking even more money into the thing, or instead of the phone working for you, you work to accommodate the phone? Brilliant.

Yup.

spending another 1% on an accessory is a fair price to pay for what is a great phone where the new design of antenna makes an improvement in low signal areas.

What a horrible analogy by Microsoft. The iPhone 4 is the highest rated phone currently on the market. Some people are experiencing signal issues. However, the OS and phone features/hardware, itself, are the best currently on the market. But kudos to him for actually implying that Vista was junk...

THIS proves why Microsoft continues to suck.

All companies come out with duds from time to time. It happens. But MS has proven again and again that they can't even recognize their own problems. If this guy actually thinks this is similar to what the Vista problems were like then they are in some serious denial.

When Microsoft makes good things I actually LIKE those things. I don't want them to fail. But they seem intent on trying to actively ignore any problems, thus leading to yet more problems. Ugh.

To be fair it depends on how you look at it. You could easily argue that the iPhone has a severe flaw for a significant amount of users in that a significant chunk of what the product is does not work properly.

And Microsoft doesn't recognise their own problems - true! I'd have to be blind to deny that, but what about Apple in this situation? Trying to brush this issue off as a software issue? Telling the consumer they're holding the phone the wrong way? Basically ignoring it all? Is that not denial?

I could pretty much just take your last paragraph and put Apple in where you've written Microsoft (as I prefer Apple) as they seem to be in the midst of that situation right now.

And to those who are criticising this guy for comparing the iPhone to vista and admitting the OS was crap, will you be the same if/when Apple admits this issue? I highly doubt it. You'll all be "yeah no one else would do this, go Apple, how humble!" I know these forums are pro-apple but the number of fanboys here is crazy.

Sorry but Apple's taken you for a mug. They've actually turned this around by selling a piece of rubber for $30 - making you pay for their mistake.

Why should you have to spend *anything* extra to ensure it works properly? And what kind of a great design is it when you need an extra accessory to make sure it functions 100%.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/7B367)

Haha. 261 comments and nobody has pointed out the ad was co-sponsored by Verizon. I bet AT&t is jumping for joy right now. If nothing else, it's safe to assume, that verizon will NOT be selling iPhones, perhaps in our lifetime.

Er no. I use the same £5 case that i used on the 3G.

Or - when i am not using it i hold it differently.

If that is the only thing wrong with an otherwise brilliant phone - then that really is not enough to ruin my day.

New designs that bring benefits often bring unexpected drawbacks. Its part of being an early adopter.

And what kind of a great design is it when you need an extra accessory to make sure it functions 100%.

Its not perfect - but i would rather have a phone that works better in low signal areas that one i can hold any way i wanted to.

Microsoft has huge market in enterprise domain, and I mean HUGE contracts with governments, schools, banks, railways, and that too for workstations, servers, storage solutions, databases, you name it you got it. These are the contracts that last decades. Much like IBM, Oracle, HP, with additional advantage that they do make some consumer products as well such as mobile, XBox, etc.

They can afford to do **** for a while, which they do, and still their core business would not be affected greatly.

What does Apple have? 1 mp3 player, 1 phone, and mp3 store that also sells games. Their market are fanbois and gadget people that can turn to something shinier anytime. Remember Palm?

So Apple's only strategy is to keep on doing great products that outclass the competition, which they do, and fanatically defend their platform against intruders such as Adobe, which they also do.

Unfortunately for Apple, although they've given us fantastic platform, any misstep they do like this antenna can harm them pretty badly on the grand scale.

While Microsoft can continue to release ***** with not too much harm, Apple just can't afford to drop the ball. Having nutJobs coming up with these retarded explanations doesn't help either.

Dream on, Kevin

"It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their Vista, and I'm okay with that," said Kevin Turner, Microsoft's chief operating officer..."

Dream on, Kevin. Dream on.

There's no such thing as a "fair price to pay" to get something to work right that you already paid for.
