Finder does seem a little too picky with network shares, I'll give you that. But they run pretty well if they're set up properly on a good network. It was a source of frustration for me at one point. Finder remembers your last window size, but it doesn't do it in the most intuitive of ways. Another reasonable gripe there.

The stealing focus thing, though, is nonsense. Not only is that one of the most annoying things about Windows in general (for me), but I have no idea how you're managing to do things so clumsy as dump items accidentally into the sidebar.

Finder really is, though, an element of OS X that needs improvement. But what it needs is a radical re-thinking of how it might work. I would disagree with you if you suggested that Windows Explorer is more intuitive. For years I've always been frustrated with the difficulty of traversing the Microsoft OS. One needs to come up with something great.

Spotlight is awesome. Not sure what you're complaining about there. And it absolutely has not gone downhill since its conception. I can definitely think of improvements I would like to see.

No real comment on CoverFlow. It is useful in certain cases, but it is hard to imagine someone using it to browse their OS.

And also, you did comment earlier that 'OS X has many of those problems', or something to that effect. Pulling out a few minor gripes doesn't really set aside your drama, especially when your response was regarding Windows complaints that deal primarily with Windows-specific features.

Finder is simple that was the goal i think and Spotlight is awesome. For example type "Folder" in the Finder search field and you get all folders in that subdir or whole Mac depending how you setup search.

Not a good comparison...

Vista was terrible, everyone hated it. People are blowing this out of proportion. I just got my iphone 4 and haven't had any problems. It's just because apple has found so much recent popularity that everyone is just trying to bring them down. Good luck with the Windows phone and hope it goes the same route as the kin.

Bitter fanboys the competition is taking Apple to task for their blunders.

Aaaaaalways a one-way street when it comes to Apple. Taking cheap shots at the competition, but never the other way around. You people literally sicken me.

"...Aside from that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"

The "phone's" nothing more than an expensive iPod Touch w/ a 2 year contract.

At least Vista worked.

I'm sure you can tell me how to set up a good network share.

Icons are another problem as well. Defaults worked in Tiger but now you have to learn to exclude everything but that one folder you want to look a certain way.

You'll then change the spacing in one window only to have another one have the default spacing. Window sizes changing every time you open a new Finder window in a different directory or from a stack. BLARGH....

Windows 7 has one Explorer window size fits all. Sheesh.

Taking List view out of the Open/Save dialog was a sin and the icon previews have a 50% chance of working.

Cmd + T

Then you realize Finder has focus.

It's all the same to me. Finder's quirkiness has been much more annoying post-Tiger. Network nonsense aside.

You opened this can of worms. Bootstrapped Spotlight was light years beyond of what Leopard and Snow Leopard do for actually finding what you want in seconds instead of digging for it.

Apple used to make fun of Microsoft all the time. Instead of promoting the strong points of their own products, they chose to ridicule their opponent. Now the tables are turned. That's karma. Hard to swallow for the fanboys, I'm sure.

Microsoft keeps making promises about products that either don't exist, won't exist, or aren't out yet.

Never mind that MS doesn't make the hardware. To make any promises about hardware is dumb.

Agreed-I was thinking the same thing as I read this.

It's amazing how much press this is getting though, I guess this the first crack in Apple's armor and all the the little peasants on trying to rush in to break it.

Remember that little oil spill or the 8 troops just killed in Afghanistan...Nope but did you hear about what happens when you touch the side of the iPhone!!!!

The iPhone 4 is the best phone ever made hands down. It is not perfect and the antenna issue is real. The issue is a small nuisance and the bumper solves it completely. The only issue I have is the bumper costs $30, when it should be $5.

Dear Microsoft,

shut the f--- up, moron!

At least Apple is IMPROVING their product.

Oh God, how did I miss this?!

At least Vista could be fixed with a software upgrade. The iPhone 4 has a hardware issue.

I'm not defending Vista's reputation, but I can see that it's for a reason that they claim something and it makes an interesting topic, whilst you only have this forum to do your thing against them.

"One of the things I want to make sure you know today is that you're going to be able to use a Windows Phone 7 and not have to worry about how you're holding it to make a phone call," Turner said

Of course you won't - it will reliably crash and/or freeze no matter *how* you hold it, providing the true Windows experience!

Again it's only a problem for you. For me it's fine.

Virtually everything in OS X is awesome for people who want basic capabilities and just need a computer they can use, and Finder is no exception to this. Apple succeeded in this regard (though someday someone will come up with a more intelligent way to manage files). I think my frustration with Finder (along with frustration from other power users) is that it is quite limited in terms of professional features and capabilities, while so many other parts of the Apple OS are capable of such exceptional things for those who wish to enable them.

But I should also point out that my frustration with Finder isn't really due to a competing OS coming up with something so much better. Windows Explorer drives me nuts. Despite being similar in many regards, its usability is still poor. And Linux is like Linux always is: designed by some brilliant programmers who wouldn't know usability if it jumped out and bit them in their asses.

So I guess what I want, and what I imagine others want, is a rethinking of these tired old systems. I wind up using other ways to organize and find files because I don't like having to click more than a few times to get where I want to go.

Speaking of where the hell is my $10,000 Microsoft Surface?!

But i do remember this quote from WWDC 1997.

We have to let go of a few notions here. We have to let go of the notion that for Apple to win, Microsoft needs to lose.’”

THIS proves why Microsoft continues to suck.

All companies come out with duds from time to time. It happens. But MS has proven again and again that they can't even recognize their own problems.
/snip

Unless you can't read, which I suspect you can't, you'd see that the COO just recognized their own problem (which was than rectified in Windows 7).

Count me in as one of those 2% who are waiting for a Winmo 7 phone. Heck, I've been waiting, on ATT, off contract, since the 3G came out, for the winmo 7 phone.

IMO, the results GUI was a lot better back than in Snow Leopard. Now, its been crippled - not as flexible. However, the ability to add conditions is great ( I know you could before but it was a hidden feature ).

Why?

I'm playing game "add troll to an ignore list". Fun game ...

Not sure that this Forum would be as use if I could not hear what everyone has to say. Not sure what the definition of a "Troll" is, but I prefer to hear even what the uninformed have to say.

I have learned more about PCs and Microsoft on this forum more so than other places.

I find that a uniform opinion to be ignorant of the conflicting facts.

I find the emotional and oblivious arguments funny and entertaining.

FWIW

Mr. Turner also claims to be "back in the game" with WinMoPho7.

Don't they need to, oh, I dunno, actually ship the product before being "back in the game?"

Maybe that's just me.

Good luck with your eventual product launch, Turner. I'm sure it will be flawless.
