iPhone 4 has one significant issue: reception. Vista has countless issues...

Please, Microsoft. Don't put yourself in a same sentence as Apple. It's like a Yugo being compared to a Bentley.

iPhone 4 actually has two significant issues. One is reception and the other is the proximity sensor. Apple has been quite vocal on how to somewhat get around the reception issue (buy a case/bumper), but they have been strangely silent on the issue with the proximity sensor.

OMG! No wonder!

No wonder MS has such issues with dumb statements like this!

First they admit that Vista Sucks and then make a statement about a hardware issue they can't even control given they just do the OS!

I guess they thought this was a slam on Apple... instead, it makes them look even more stupid! I'm surprised Balmer didn't make this statement!

Er no. I use the same £5 case that i used on the 3G.

Or - when i am not using it i hold it differently.

If that is the only thing wrong with an otherwise brilliant phone - then that really is not enough to ruin my day.

New designs that bring benefits often bring unexpected drawbacks. Its part of being an early adopter.

Its not perfect - but i would rather have a phone that works better in low signal areas that one i can hold any way i wanted to.

It's not the only thing wrong with it. There's also the proximity sensor issue. However, I almost agree with you. It's so superior to my 3G that I can't bring myself to return it just because of the problems. However, I may return it because of Apple's response. I'm tired of them jerking me around.

No... they made a statement that there was a OS glitch causing it to be a problem and are fixing it.

the iPhone 4 with the antenna issue is like Brooke Shields having a bad hair day

brooke-shields-slimming.jpg

Spot on. Brooke Shields is actually more like Apple as a whole...very pretty, but chock-full of psychological issues and hidden problems that no one hears the truth about until years after the fact. Eventually, she fades into irrelevance until dredged up for a VH1 'Where are they now' episode.

Good call.

For the Proximity Sensor issue? Source please. I'd be happy if that were the case, but I haven't seen them say anything of the sort.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/7B367)

Haha. 261 comments and nobody has pointed out the ad was co-sponsored by Verizon. I bet AT&t is jumping for joy right now. If nothing else, it's safe to assume, that verizon will NOT be selling iPhones, perhaps in our lifetime.

Verizon is working on Apple's power position to make a better bargain for when the iPhone 5 is available. Verizon would still jump at the chance to sell the iphone.

Except that part where everyone wants an iPhone...Vista not so much...

Everyone wants an iPhone until they happen to be one of the "unlucky" ones like me and thousands of others who can't hold the phone up to our faces without hanging up people, putting them on speaker, muting ourselves, or calling a third party from our contact list.

I wanted an iPhone that I could use as a phone first and foremost. Since I am unable to do that with iPhone 4, I will be taking my iPhone 4 back for a refund tomorrow. Apple could have convinced me to wait past my 30 day return window had they just come out and said that a fix for the proximity sensor problem will be available on or before ex date. They haven't so much as officially acknowledged that there's a problem with the proximity sensor so I can draw no other conclusion except that they are not working on a fix for it.

There's no such thing as a "fair price to pay" to get something to work right that you already paid for.

Then hold it differently - that is free.

Bear in mind this is a brand new design - hasn't been out a month.
Early adopters take this risk - and are often rewarded by devices that really are a cut above the rest non many areas.

once this issue is fixed - what is left will be another benchmark phone.

Party Guest: You sir, are drunk!
Chuchill: And you madam, are ugly. But in the morning - I shall be sober.

ggest reason that got me to buy a Mac. I can not be asked to reorganize thousands of my files.

Serious? Nevermind, I know you don't joke.

That is frightening. How can you possibly survive computing with thousands of files if they aren't organized, independent of OS choice? Spotlight should be an accessory to your workflow, not the main methodology.

Maybe you should check into some of the Finder alternatives. Maybe one of them will offer the precise functionality you prefer. Course, they could change with a new version, too.

OK guys, Name ONE SINGLE SPECIFIC known problem with Vista that hasn't already been fixed. The problems were always just hype.

Are you guys forgetting the Apple COVER UP of this problem saying it's a SOFTWARE ISSUE? Also, for those who say that the iPhone is fixed by a simple RECALL - Are you serious? Yeah, that makes it a small issue.

Tony
Microsoft's fix for Vista = Win 7... and make you pay $119.99 + tax.

No... they made a statement that there was a OS glitch causing it to be a problem and are fixing it.

Really? Can you provide a link to said statement? If you can, I'll head over to Apple's discussion boards and post it there because there are about 10 threads going on the proximity sensor issue right now (one of which has over 150,000 views) and no one has mentioned that they've seen Apple make any official statement regarding the proximity sensor.

So this guy means shoving down people´s throats a late, overgrown, lesser quality, untested, product (fixed 3 years later, for another fee) is the same as a hidden defect in a new design?
This guy is an idiot and probably mean too ... And Redmond wonders why they are so hated? In fact, they just don´t care, while they go to the bank. A perfect model of the current crisis: suits.

i guess thats better than Microsoft (quasimodo) and Google's (ugly geek) fate.

No it hasn't.

Yes it has...both my Iphones 3G have difficulty in working properly with IOS4. The lag is awful, games crash, some apps dont work and the battery lasts less so in this case I agree with the original poster. Even looking up a contact to make a phone call has terrible lag.

It reminds me of my Vista days......miserable

I'm looking my friend... I know I read it somewhere! I thought here... but does not seem so.... It was just the other day because I remember thinking "Woo who!" a fix! :D

I can see one major difference between iphone 4's problems and vista's - vista was generally rubbish but iphone 4 is generally good with one main problem - the antenna. One problem is easier to fix than hundreds. When I get an iphone 4, I am getting a case anyway because I like to protect my gadgets. :apple:

OK - Name ONE THING that was broken in Vista that got fixed. Yeah, I thought you couldn't....

Vista was never broken. It got a bad reputation because it was designed on the assumption that computers would be higher in performance than the previous generation, so MS added some resource intensive graphical elements. As it turned out, there was an influx of NETBOOKS that hit about the same time (unpredictably) that Vista could not run on very well. So it SEEMED bloated that it didn't run well on a highly underpowered 1 GHz single core processor.

This doesn't happen to Mac OS because they control both hardware and software on their platform, so they KNOW what's coming.

In the end, these OS's are all kinda the same.

Tony

Vista would have saved you from looking silly by asking to confirm you wanted to post that 4 times :) There was nothing not wrong with Vista...

BWAAAAAAA HA HA HA.. Sniff oh my that was funny. Really Microsoft? This is minor issue as most, which has a quick fix that was taken care of quickly, wereas YOU keep releasing patch after patch without fixing anything?
Wait let me read this again. BWAAAA HA HA HA HA. Oh stop my side (tears in my eyes from laughing so hard)

I stand corrected! Sorry guys!

My mind must have filled in the blank that it was a software issue (even though the story says it could be a HW or SW issue). I probably did that because it's not like the Proximity sensor is a new thing and just logically deduced that it would be a software glitch and not a HW thing.

So I'm pulling for a SW glitch and fix. :D Again... sorry... a mistake of the brain.

I haven't realised that Bentley sold millions of car, made from plastic, glass and with a major design flaw. Your Yugo-parallel doesn't work either.

These luxury-car posts are getting tiring. Obviously, some people never understood the concept of 'luxury'.

You clearly never used iOS4, right ?

I have, on my 2nd gen iPod, and compared to OS3, its slower, buggier and most definately eats the battery quicker.

then I jailbroke it and added wallpaper and multitasking, and its definately much slower now.

Problems with Vista were REAL and huge.

to use the same sort of defense that aall of those lucky people with an Iphone 4 have used.

I never had a problem with vista.

or does that defnese only work with the iphone?
