Apple should take a page from Microsoft's playbook, and rerelease the same crummy OS with a new name and an ad campaign that convinces people it's not the same crummy OS.

Maybe call it iPhone 7? :p

I'm sure Kevin Turner was just trying to make a joke, but seriously he does realize that there's a difference between a phone and an OS right?.... right?

Oh and MS... nice job on the Kin and the Zune you guys should REALLY stay in the mobile business.

I don't have problems with Vista nor Apple's new cellphone.
Perhaps I'm just undemanding.

I know - like when they tried to sell windows with the slogan "life without walls"?
Their worst ad is still this internet explorer thingy, where actors shout at me and a weird eye-jabbing yellow tries to drive me mad (rather successful).

Serious. You can use $.001 scotch tape and fix the iPhone... you can spend all of Solomon's wealth and never fix Vista.

Microsoft fixed Vista - its called Windows 7.

Where's Apple's fix for iphone 4? <crickets>

On a sidenote, I just saw another newspiece on TV about an iphone 4 recall, and I hardly watch the news.

Fair enough.

As far as I remember correctly, Apple did the same thing to Microsoft for the last few years. I guess it was fine because it was Apple. Now that it's Apple getting bad press from Microsoft, well it's different...

It's not bad press, it's stupid statements! They have nothing to do with hardware design of the phones and it's silly that after years of touting how great Vista was, now they slam it like it was a huge mistake. Dumb PR on their part I'd say.

iPhone 4 is more like the Xbox 360. People enjoyed it and it was a good product, but had one serious design flaw (the wonderful Red Ring of Death).

Difference is, I'd consider the 360 to be one of Microsoft's best products...

Sorry, your benchmarks in UT2003 weren't 'real' nor 'huge' problems, Mr. "IT".
nice try, but you aim at the wrong target, dude.
I'm not a teen (like you, I presume) anymore, and I wasn't a teen in 2003 neither.
Actually I'm almost 40.
And I couldn't care less about a benchmark.
If you are a Winbot still speaking about games benchmark on a PC, I'm very sorry for you ...

I have, on my 2nd gen iPod, and compared to OS3, its slower, buggier and most definately eats the battery quicker.

then I jailbroke it and added wallpaper and multitasking, and its definately much slower now.

to use the same sort of defense that aall of those lucky people with an Iphone 4 have used.

I never had a problem with vista.

or does that defnese only work with the iphone?

I didn't speak about iphone in this thread. I'm just speaking about that piece of crap called "Vista" ...

You rabid fanboys do a disservice to the company you seem to support as though it were a football team by excusing it's errors and polarizing everything.

Apple ********d up!

Call them out on it instead of this mindless, blind adoration.

OK, this rabid fanboy will speak up. HEY APPLE, YOU SCREWED UP THE ANTENNA RECEPTION ON THE iPHONE 4th GEN!!!

Now, can I have one of these horrible iPhone 4's? Because, you know, they're STILL more freaking awesome than anything else out there on the market. :p

Microsoft fixed Vista - its called Windows 7.

Yeah, I hate to break it to you, but other than slapping on a few bandaids here and there, they released the same os with a new name. Most of the problems remain, including the horrid user interface.

Even if I had the iPhone 4 and it had an issue, I wouldn't care. My experience with Apple for the past decade has been great! Who cares if a few aren't the best it could be. You can't beat their track record.

PC's track record?? Win 95, 98, ME, Vista...

Crap, crap, crap, worst of all the crap...

Now all of a sudden they want to put up a bunch of smoke and mirrors with "Windows 7 was my idea". Trying to change their image so people can keep buying crap.

Go to any PC store on it's best day then go to an Apple store on it's worst day and you'll have 3 times the amount of people there.

Even the XBOX issue doesn't compare. Once the red ring shows up, it's over. pack it up and send it back.

Kevin Turner is an idiot, Windows 7 must have been his idea. Take your XBOX 360's red ring of death and shove it.

;):apple:

mmm, I always thought the 360's serious flaw was HD-DVD

sounds like your video card had crap drivers which the vendors provide which crippled Vista early on despite being informed by microsoft. apple has a bad hardware design and has insulted the consumers intelligence with their arrogance. Whether or not your handset is affected, their shouldn't be the potential issues other than manufacturing issues with their hardware. the phone is flawed from a design standpoint.

Yes, the phone is flawed from a design standpoint. Can I get one now? Because they are still too darned awesome compared to any other phone out there. :p

Vista was a major OS getting bad reception and all sorts of issues, whereas the iPhone is just a product that would be replaced in a year or so, anyway. Of course, it has the bad reception and the issues...

I don't think that it causes Apple Inc the same damage in their image of what MS had to experience, but I understand Microsoft. This is a very good chance to get back on all the smugness and kick the rotten Apple. After all, Apple has been officially mocking Microsoft, often with no good reason.

Get a Mac? Get back at Apple!

Hang on, this is MR - no rational arguements allowed:

1. Anything said by Apple is right
2. Anything not said by Apple might be wrong
3. Anything said against Apple is wrong

Apple would have made the same backhanded comment if it had befallen a MS product. I seriously wonder how WPhone7 will be, as the Windows Mobile 2003 SE days sucked, but people that have seen the WP7 say it's pretty good.

BTW juts had to open a Mac Mini today (to replace the failing RAM in my 2month old Macbook pro) - damn who was the Chief Mech. Designer on those minis? I'd like to shove my putty knife up his butt.

heh

LOL
iPhone: best selling phone, roundly praised as its best except for a design flaw that can be fixed with a 15 dollar case that 90% of people, worked on for about a year.

Visa: An OS MS worked on for 10 years that caused major suppliers to downgrade, regular people to need equipment upgrades and basically everyone to hate it so much they had to redesign it from the ground up. Its also their only real product, while Apple also makes ipods and computers.

Shut up, Kevin Turner. Just shut up.

Lemme get this straight. Turner wants to seize upon a competitor's 'failure', so he looks for a famous tech failure he can compare it to. Let's see. What's a really famous screw-up we can seize on to drive the point home? A really classic failure?

Oh, yeah! Our own turkey of an operating system! Yeah, let's remind everyone of that - and in the same breath, let's tell the world how WE would never screw up like Apple did!

If you made this up, they'd tell you that no one could be that stupid.

top of the heap...

Seriously, is anyone who actually owns an iphone4 wishing they were on an iphone 3gs or any other smart phone? Because if it sucks as bad as these trolls claim, there is a return policy that will rectify their concerns.

Atleast we won't be getting blue screen.

Nah, we got Kernel Panics for that.

Sent from my Thinkpad, because my 2010 MBP is running AHT.

I've hardly used Vista (which is slightly more annoying than XP, but not a big deal). Seems ok though sluggish. I feel kind of sorry for the individual Vista programmers, hearing the higher-ups disparage the work that has been done and buy into the "Vista= crap" meme. Even *I* think that Vista is crap, because I've *heard* it is. Limited first hand experience indicates it's 'ok'.

BTW OS 9 was an unreliable POS.

Go to any PC store on it's best day then go to an Apple store on it's worst day and you'll have 3 times the amount of people there.

Yes, probably to get their iMac screen looked at, their over-heating macbook pro swapped out, perhaps exchanging their iPhone for one that actually works, or any of the other myriad array of problems that plague Apple products...

You're right; Apple stores *are* pretty busy. :p

if only we could fix vista with duct tape

Yeah, like putting duct tape on a (!)$700(!) phone is a reasonable fix. Only a blind-faith fanboy would say something so absurd. And yes, I did own an iPhone until very recently, and I am still (although not for long) a Mac user.

By the way, the problems with Vista are software issues, not a hardware issue, like the antenna in the iPhone 4.

Doesn't anyone find it funny that microsoft itself declares that Vista is the new benchmark for all things that go horriably wrong?

LOL

iPhone 4: no way of knowing how long it has been in the works due to Apple Ministry of Truth (covert black ops secrecy). It is not the "best selling phone" worldwide.

Vista: worked on for about 5 years (according to available information). Not sure if you realised that MS also has a bunch of other products.

MS sucks, but at least get a few of your facts straight...

Actually, he was referring to how word-of-mouth can destroy a product, regardless of the actual issues. Sorta like what's happening to the sole product that is keeping Apple afloat right now. For those of you that so casually forget these things, a refresher;

"If I were running Apple, I would milk the Macintosh for all it's worth -- and get busy on the next great thing. The PC wars are over. Done. Microsoft won a long time ago."
-- Fortune, Feb. 19, 1996"

And looks like people are chomping at the bit for that "next great thing" from Apple to get recalled to fix shoddy design and manufacturing. Sad, really. And you guys wonder why Macbook Pro and Mac Pro refreshes are so infrequent and lackluster? Yeah...there's your reason. Apple cater to consumers now...not creators.

Ooops, where did you buy the phone  - let me tell you: you totally got screwed!

Only blind-faith windows dummies would pay that much ! :)
