THIS proves why Microsoft continues to suck.

All companies come out with duds from time to time. It happens. But MS has proven again and again that they can't even recognize their own problems. If this guy actually thinks this is similar to what the Vista problems were like then they are in some serious denial.

You are talking about Apple right?

Because MS knows Vista is full of problems. So far Apple is denying there is anything fundementally wrong with iPhone 4.

This has gotten so out of hand. I haven't dropped one damn call on my iPhone 4 and love it about 10X as much as my old iPhone 3G. I have NEVER owned a gadget let alone a phone that works this well. It is unbelievable how ridiculous this has gotten. It really is sad that everyone isn't having the same experience I'm having, which has been flawless. I'm not lying either so don't give me that crap, even though just because I said that, people are going to call me a liar.

I do hope Apple does something soon though, as I am getting tired of defending this phone, and having no one believe me.

+1000

Best phone I have ever owned. No dropped calls at my office, where my 3g and 3gs dropped at least one in four calls.

I couldn't be happier with it.

The Microsoft guy is missing one thing - Vista did not have the rabid fanbois that iPhone 4 has got. There was no one to claim that Vista being slower and needing more resources is actually a good thing with various mind blowing explanations.

iPhone 4 has got cool fanbois convincing people that they don't need to make a call and that there is no problem with the signal anyway. Plus Microsoft doesn't have Jobs to distort the reality with the help of short and sweet messages that encourage people to be innovative in solving their own problems by just holding differently. [ If they had one - Vista would have been an insanely great OS and people would have learned that they just needed to install it on beefier hardware and in not doing so they are being dumb.]

So no - iPhone 4 is no Vista. Hold different and it's next best thing after sliced bread.

How is this like Vista?

iPhone 4 is actually selling (sold out) and has a high rate of adoption from current iPhone users.

Shut up, Kevin Turner. Just shut up.

Yeah, really. The iPhone 4 could work as nothing more than a way to tether your laptop and people will still buy waaaaay more iPhone's than Windows Mobile phones. Just give up, Microsoft, you lose. It's a completely hopeless, winless battle.. just quit.

Apple messed up on several accounts, but to suggest the Iphone4 even remotely approaches the awfulness of Vista is intellectually dishonest.

In a sense that iPhone gets a reputation so devastatingly bad that customers refuse to buy/upgrade to it, the comparison could be valid with Windows Vista.

I currently own 2 iMacs, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, several iPods and a couple of Apple TVs. I think you could call me a fan of Apple products and something of an :apple: addict. I have no intention of buying the iPhone 4 having now learned of these antenna issues. (just as Apple has no intention of fixing anything) So if I have reached this conclusion, I imagine Apple could be in a very bad place in a few months.

yes you may be able to use a windows 7 phone while not worrying about how you hold it but you will still have to worry about it crashing...

the why the antennas are is a genius idea.. the signal loss issue is unfortunate but apple is not saying "fing deal with it" their working on it.. but there not saying heres what were doing either..

if the signal loss issue is whats preventing you from getting an iphone 4 then dont get it.. (or if u have one give it to me!!!)

Vista is world's better than XP as long as you don't try to run it on a Netbook. The problem was that these underpowered computers should be running a different OS. It's like trying to run Snow Leopard on the iPad.

Tony

I ran the thing on a Gateway with Core 2 Duo intel processor and a 8600GT Nvidia card. Much of the time, a Macbook Pro, with similar processor, and a 9400M could outpace that machine running the same software on XP. Vista was a hog on fairly powerful hardware. Windows 7 was a definite improvement, though.

Well, it's not true for the iPhone 4, but it is true for iOS 4.

See, iOS 4 is not compatible with 1st generation touch devices, sort of like old machines that can't take Vista.

Battery life, speed and reliability has also dropped with iOS 4 similar to how Vista never worked, and was not secure.

iOS 3 = XP
iOS 4 = Vista
iOS 5 = 7 (I can't wait for this one! ;))

OK - Name ONE THING that was broken in Vista that got fixed. Yeah, I thought you couldn't....

This was really broken and mostly fixed by the time we got SP1. It's still slower than XP or 7, but is at least tolerable.

During my initial attempt at upgrading to Vista, the process of copying my files from backup took 36 hours.

Wow!

Look at you fan boys go! You are a credit to the brainwashing talents of Apple's marketing department, you should be very proud of yourselves for your unquestioning loyalty to the corporation.

The iPhone 4 is an amazing piece of technology...the display is incredible, the video quality is amazing, it looks beautiful...

But the damn phone doesn't work properly!

And the problem is it is fundamentally a PHONE!

They released the thing with inadequate testing.

You rabid fanboys do a disservice to the company you seem to support as though it were a football team by excusing it's errors and polarizing everything.

Apple ********d up!

Call them out on it instead of this mindless, blind adoration.

Give me a break.

Does the iPhone 4 have a problem (an embarrassing one at that)? Yes!

Does Apple have a PR nightmare on its hands? Absolutely!

Is this the best mobile phone I've ever owned? You bet!

So don't anyone call me an Apple fanboy... I do think it is plain EMBARRASSING that Apple released this phone either without knowing about the problem or despite the problem.

HOWEVER, I personally have not had any dropped calls with the iPhone 4 and have been able to avoid the problem so far. Other aspects of the phone are simply amazing and more than make up for this flaw (for me).

Windows ME was Microsoft's Windows CE.... and it goes on, and on and on....

What about XP?

No Kevin, WinPhone 7 = Vista

Microsoft conveniently ignores the fact that WinPhone7 won't ship with flash or copy paste.

All this over a phone.

Don't you understand? This is more than a phone! This is the re conception of communication! This will change everything!

Some great quotes from Jonathan Ive:

People have disconnected function from cosmetics
There's an applied style of being minimal and simple, and then there's real simplicity. This looks simple because it really is.
It became an exercise to reduce and reduce, but it makes it easier to build, and easier for people to work with.
From a designer's point of view, it's not an appearance game we're playing. It is very utilitarian. It's the use of material in a very minimalist way.

I honestly don't understand **** of what he says.

As much of an embarrassment as this iPhone mess is for Apple, all they have to do is look at Microsoft to see how short people's memories are. Vista was mercilessly dogged by people from all walks of life and left for dead. I believe that the latest sales figures for Windows 7 puts it at 7 million sold, which shows that all has been forgiven and that people are willing to shell out the loot if you put out a great product, which Windows 7 is. Similarly, this iPhone nightmare will blow over with time and people will still be lined up around the block to buy next year's phone.

With the Microsoft Kin being a disaster, I don't think Kevin Turner should be talking phones. They half-ass their phones and keep pushing them to later dates, not that they would be any good in any way. Maybe he should take time to focus on their own problems, instead of talking about the iPhone which makes any product they put out look like crap. Looks like Mr. Turner has some issues to figure out for himself.

Not sure if serious.

OF COURSE XP WILL RUN FASTER! It dosn't have as extensive of graphical interface updates that Vista had. But XP didn't run SIGNIFICANTLY faster than Vista on a medium to high powered machine. I'd rather have the additional features and suffer the 5% performance decrease.

New OS ALWAYS RUN SLOWER ON THE SAME MACHINE! Except Win7 of course, because they HAD to because of netbooks and bad press.

Nice one - be non-specific like most Apple fanboys.

Tony

ok. I'll bite.

I have a Dell XPS 3 GHz Dual Core computer with 2X GeForce 8800 GT vid card. 4GB DDR2 Ram. Ran Windows XP just fine. Upgraded to Vista... Dog slow. Aero didn't ever work (even with the graphical horsepower) and networking was flaky. It's funny... as soon as win 7 came out, the computer was upgraded and things were running better, but still not as good as on Win XP.

I have downgraded to win XP and that is what I run now.

The unfortunate thing is that I have to run a windows machine for work, so I am stuck. I do, however, run a Mac for personal use now.
