not a microsoft fan, but at least they are willing to admit their mistakes. i'm getting real tired of apple telling the consumer that they are wrong. i love my iphone 4, but there are some real issues with it. still, i don't want to return it. and i don't want to complain about it. but i want steve jobs to take some accountability for apple's mistakes and stop lying to me.

obviously, microsoft has learned a whole lot from apple. maybe its time apple learned a little something from microsoft.

Nonsense. You're exagerating. You can't tell me that you can't run Aero on a Dual core 3 GHz machine with 4GB RAM and a GeForce 8800 GT. I have a lesser powered PC and Vista works just fine. Everyone at my work runs Vista with Aero on lesser powered machines. You are lying or there is something else wrong with your PC.

Tony

How ridiculous are the both of you for comparing an Operating System that has been out for nearly 4 YEARS to a PHONE that has been out for nearly 4 WEEKS. How ignorant and ridiculous do you have to be? Microsoft has had plenty of time to work out all of the kinks and believe me, there were many. Driver issues anyone? Give Apple some time to do what it needs to do.

Either way you slice it, a phone DOES NOT compare to an OPERATING SYSTEM. Let alone an OS that was suppose to replace XP (The biggest and most widely used OS on the planet.) GET A GRIP on reality.

I like how Microsoft acknowledges Vista's failure just to make fun of the iPhone! It's their own product, they should still pretend it was a success, for the sake of reputation. And Vista was flawed in every possible way, so badly that people still use XP. It wasn't even built with good intentions. The iPhone 4 only has this one problem, which might even get fixed if the rumours of the new coated antenna are true.

Where are you finding this information? and do you honestly believe that apple will recall all the already sold iphones to coat the antenna on their own dime?

What complete nonsense. You are well in denial about the facts.
All the user outrage and now even MS admits that Vista was a huge dud? Must be for a reason right.

I don't even know where to start:
- slow as *** on every single computer. It was noticably slower than XP even on high-end PCs
- the new explorer ... unintuitive, unresponsive, wouldn't even remember its last position
- file copying, of all things! ... they must have been the first to mess up a basic OS task that had been around since 1843
- sidebar? well at least you could switch that piece of junk off
- indexing when least appropriate
- they reshuffled the messy control panel to make it even more messy
- three letters of pure horror and outright stupid worst-case design decisions: UAC
- more, but too lazy to point out the obvious

BTW When Vista came out, Apple already had a GPU-rendered UI for years and it didn't require a high-end Mac to work properly! So your argument fails miserably.

Yeah, they fixed most of these things in 7, but they made you pay for it.
Many of those things are annoying in OS X as well.

Vista was a train wreck? Known. Microsoft acknowledging it? Priceless. iPhone 4 signal issues? A nice fix or recall away from being fixed. Microsoft's image after sayign Vista was the greatest thing since sliced bread? Not so good.

Really? lol... "A nice fix or recall away from being fixed" and you just brush all Apple's problems under the rug... Job's response to this whole PR disaster is easily on the same level as Microsoft's comment, if not worse.

But keep on apologizing for Apple and continue to wait for their "nice fix" -- the shareholders sure do appreciate it

It's funny how people on this site forgives apple when iOS 4.0 ..or even 3.0 runs sluggishly on the iphone 3G; yet they bash vista when it runs slow on an old computer.
Double standard much?

Don't forget that Mac has it's own UAC - everytime it requires you to type in a Administrator username/password.

Agree completely with your other points :)
Oh come now. Apple's security feature requires the user to enter their password whenever adjusting a sensitive directory (system folder), doing something potentially harmful (like moving a running program), or when installing something that will interact with the system on a fundamental level. These things need to exist in an operating system and Apple's system has been implemented in a clean, reliable way.

UAC in Vista was overbearing and absurd.
Not all 'features' are created equally.

Shut up is right

Those idiots at Microsoft were just waiting for something like this to happen and then jump all over it. Compare iPhone 4 to Vista, are you kidding me? That's like comparing BP oil spill to some 5 year olds spilled milk.

What a bunch of morons...

No concern

C'mon now...he's RIGHT! I have absolutely no concern about how to hold a Windoze Phone 7.

I haven't dropped one call and the quality of the call is miles better than my 3G. Why would I badmouth the iPhone 4, when it has been nothing but spectacular for me? Sounds pretty insane. Just because you are having problems doesn't mean everyone is. If I were you I'd just take the phone back.

I don't have an iPhone 4 because the people I communicate who have one keep dropping calls! But my credentials as a mac user stretch waaaaaaaaay back to the Classic.

If you read my post properly, I didn't 'badmouth' it, I praised aspects of it but criticised the well known signal problems.

'If I were you I'd just take the phone back'

You channel Steve like a medium.

Specifically ...
Finder

It can't remember window size or positioning. Finder steals focus from an application and I start adding shortcuts to the sidebar. Finder struggles to traverse network shares.

Don't let me start on Spotlight and the Open/Save dialog too. It has been downhill since Tiger. I guess people use CoverFlow or something.

Apple and Microsoft forums are not the places for reasoned debate. Everyone has a distorted sense of reality, spend a few minutes on each forum and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing how Apple deals with this 'crisis' and I'm also looking forward to Windows Phone 7 and the next droid offerings from HTC/Samsung/SE/Motorola. I love tech so why wouldn't I?

Of course it runs slower. The same way that DOS runs a LOT faster than any Windows. It was meant to be next generation and thus added graphical overhead and ease of use features that take more power.

Again, what complete nonsense! Comparing Vista-XP to Windows-DOS is like ... entirely not possible. A hell lot of people still like and work on XP nearly 10 years after its release. And it's not because they are clinging to some silly old software that only runs on XP or some old user interface. It's because Vista and even 7 don't add much value to everyday computer use, if any.

And yeah "of course it runs slower". Please explain, why Windows 7 managed to be as fast as XP then, while fixing many of Vista's "ease of use" features and adding some actual features like the Mac OS style taskbar. Especially on older PCs, 7 is so much faster than Vista, it's a joke. According to your theory of newer=slower, 7 should be even slower!

How come he didn't mention their phone KIN?

Oh.. that's right, it was only in the market for 48 days and only sold 503 units. Even at a discounted price of $50 (or less)... 503 UNITS SOLD!!!!
Then blame Verizon for not promoting it enough. You already spent millions for its marketing.

WOW, still has a face to comment on the iPhone. Gutsy, gutsy move dude...

In the end, we all know that windows mobile 7 will not even measure up to Android... What more with iOS 4.

Turner takes his marching orders from the head clown, Steve Ballmer. I sold my MS stock as soon as Billy Gates announced his departure and Mr. Ballmer's promotion to Ringleader. I was outta there!

Their current revenue streams are at serious risk and with Apple, Google, Linux and a host of other Internet based technologies pounding away at their business models.

When MS office revenue stream dries up, they are toast. "Road kill on the information highway" to steal a Greg Brown song lyric :)

I have had two and the signal issue was on both.

Mine, my girlfriend, my dad, and my best friend = 4/4 iPhone's with perfect reception. We should have a survey from only, and I mean only, iPhone 4 owners. I am guessing that too much of this hype is coming from non-iPhone users jumping at the chance to hate the A cult.
