In a sense that iPhone gets a reputation so devastatingly bad that customers refuse to buy/upgrade to it, the comparison could be valid with Windows Vista.

I just have a hard time believing overall customer satisfaction will take a huge hit. Everyone I know who is new to the iphone, 5 or 6 people, loves it and reports no problems.

But you're right, time will tell whether the flaw has real consequences for sales or is simply a product of media frenzy.

I'm sick of hearing all of these douchey comments about holding the phone incorrectly. It's not funny anymore guys, please stop trying.
The media have done a great job convincing the public the iphone 4 is riddled with problems, friends of mine even think apple is doing a total recall.

The fact of the matter is the iphone 4 is great, it does have issues with losing signal but it's not the end of the world. I've never had a dropped call due to this. Haters gon' hate.

I'm loving how Microsoft is maligning their own product.

Apple would never publicly badmouth a former product. It would severely diminish the brand.

The idea of brand value is apparently lost on Microsoft.

OK guys, Name ONE SINGLE SPECIFIC known problem with Vista that hasn't already been fixed. The problems were always just hype.

Are you guys forgetting the Apple COVER UP of this problem saying it's a SOFTWARE ISSUE? Also, for those who say that the iPhone is fixed by a simple RECALL - Are you serious? Yeah, that makes it a small issue.

Tony
Are you for real ? There is people still defending Vista in the real world ?
:D

Best post of the thread ;)

you must have missed the memo. iPhone is faaaaaaaaar more than a phone.
Joke mode on
Actually iPhone is anything but a phone :D :D

Mi iPhone 4 NO tiene ningún problema de señal ya lo tape por todos lados y no pierdo nunca la señal, entonces? que dicen a eso? Para mi que es pura mala publicidad y envidia!!!!
Do you want me to try in Italian ?
Of course it runs slower. The same way that DOS runs a LOT faster than any Windows. It was meant to be next generation and thus added graphical overhead and ease of use features that take more power. The expectation is that the computers that it runs on would have more power. Nobody expected the sudden craving for underpowered computers like netbooks and tablets, so Vista looked like a resource hog.

Vista is world's better than XP as long as you don't try to run it on a Netbook. The problem was that these underpowered computers should be running a different OS. It's like trying to run Snow Leopard on the iPad.

Tony

Please, give me a break! Stop defending that crapware ....

Finder

It can't remember window size or positioning. Finder steals focus from an application and I start adding shortcuts to the sidebar. Finder struggles to traverse network shares.

Don't let me start on Spotlight and the Open/Save dialog too. It has been downhill since Tiger. I guess people use CoverFlow or something.

Don't get me started.

You haven't been watching iPhone 4 ads, have you?

I can't even remember, whether I saw one. But I have to tell you, the iPad ad annoys the crap out of me. "iPad is... iPad is beautiful... it's already a revolution and it only just begun." Ahhh, it's so lazy and I don't mind using the words again - annoying and smug.

Scooter, Mediterranean charm (at least here, in the UK), shiny happy people, children who look better than the ones in everybody's family...

This is so clinical that they could probably train anybody to create a follow-up.

At least with Vista the major problems (I encountered) were performance related, it still worked it was just slower than XP. Whereas with the iPhone 4... well holding it in your left hand stops any connections. I'd say that's worse.

I'd rather not use Vista or the current iPhone 4 thanks. I'll take XP and the 3GS :D.

Finder does seem a little too picky with network shares, I'll give you that. But they run pretty well if they're set up properly on a good network. It was a source of frustration for me at one point. Finder remembers your last window size, but it doesn't do it in the most intuitive of ways. Another reasonable gripe there.

The stealing focus thing, though, is nonsense. Not only is that one of the most annoying things about Windows in general (for me), but I have no idea how you're managing to do things so clumsy as dump items accidentally into the sidebar.

Finder really is, though, an element of OS X that needs improvement. But what it needs is a radical re-thinking of how it might work. I would disagree with you if you suggested that Windows Explorer is more intuitive. For years I've always been frustrated with the difficulty of traversing the Microsoft OS. One needs to come up with something great.

Don't let me start on Spotlight and the Open/Save dialog too. It has been downhill since Tiger. I guess people use CoverFlow or something.
Spotlight is awesome. Not sure what you're complaining about there. And it absolutely has not gone downhill since its conception. I can definitely think of improvements I would like to see.

No real comment on CoverFlow. It is useful in certain cases, but it is hard to imagine someone using it to browse their OS.

And also, you did comment earlier that 'OS X has many of those problems', or something to that effect. Pulling out a few minor gripes doesn't really set aside your drama, especially when your response was regarding Windows complaints that deal primarily with Windows-specific features.

Dear Microsoft,

The iPhone 4 is not Apple's Vista. I got my iPhone on launch day and haven't had a dropped call ever since. I sold my 3G the next week for a very nice sum.

By contrast, I also opted for Vista on launch day.
Horrible.
A portion of my systems still run Windows XP, with my workhorse machines running Windows 7.

Please don't make stupid comparisons using your own crap products. Every dumb move and comment makes me move one more peice of ms technology out of my house.

TIA

I hope this ****er eats his words when Samsung or whoever makes a cell phone with the same issue...

Nah, Samsung wouldn't have to stoop to the level of designing a 'revolutionary' antenna just to avoid licensing issues with Nokia. Too bad said 'revolutionary' antenna is an abject failure.

Microsoft should had added "Word to your mother" to this statement

They shouldn't act to smug because we know by this time next year they will be scrambling when Windows Phone yet undergoes another overhaul due to lackluster sales. again.

Agreed, thank you.

No it doesn't. DOS doesn't have driver or hardware support for modern day technology. Whereas Windows has the driver support. So no, DOS isn't faster than Windows however Windows XP, Vista and 7 all support modern hardware. Thing is there's a lot less running in the background for Windows XP so it boots up and runs faster than the other 2.

The problem is how much "fluff" is spinning around the washer on Vista and 7. It bogs it down, slows down performance. Of course thanks to DirectX and multicore CPU support it's still a lot faster than DOS.

Wow - Seriously MS?

Obviously just an attempt to add to the bad press the iPhone4 has gotten.

Furthermore anything MS has to say about Apple and vice versa should be viewed as only white noise.

Wicked funny (comparing Vista to iPhone4)!

:D

Imagine that Microsoft...
1) Admits that Vista was a piece of crap
2) Offers free advice to Apple

Hopefully Apple will understand that no matter how they 'feel' about it as a company, that the perception of a problem is the only thing that really matters. So far the only thing Apple has succeeded in doing is pissing people off or making them feel stupid for buying their flagship product.

It doesn't matter if the perception is "right" or "wrong", valid or not, the perception is out there that iPhone4's signal issues is Apple's "Vista". Only an idiot would not respond in a manner that would put the matter to rest once and for all.

Fortunately for Apple, the solution is a lot simpler than coming up with Windows 7 was for Microsoft.

Insulate the darned band going forward and give out credits for bumper cases to the existing customer base.

The point, since most of you seem to be far too dense and/or blinded fanboy lemmings to reason rationally, is that the problems with Vista were grossly exaggerated in comparison to reality...

...much like the iPhone 4 issues. This has the potential to wind up into a PR disaster, depending on how Apples' competitors choose to go about it. Wonder if we'll be seeing any "I'm an Android" commercials soon...
