Office? Really MS is getting Desperate

I don't own a copy of MS Office and I do pretty ok without it. The one monopoly MS has left in the personal computing space is slowly being chipped away at by google docs and other non-MS solutions.

Apple get the printing sorted out without buying a special printer or using a third party App...Then I'd never buy another of your laptops

Last year, I needed a new printer, so I bought an Epson which is compatible with my iPad/iPhone air printing. Less than $150, and the best printer I've ever had. It uses the most cost-effective ink as well.

More of a wise investment than going the route of buying a surface.

The RT is unimpressive and if you are going to go that route, iPads are better. But the Surface PRO is freakin' awesome. A decent spec'ed (i5, 4GB, 128GB SSD) machine in a tablet form is pretty damn good. I mean, let's be honest. If that exact same hardware came out, but ran full OSX, everyone here would be going ape**** over it.

Come on Apple, you know what everyone is dying for - a tablet running full OSX. And you could probably do the hardware better than Microsoft.

And if you don't have a net connection?

I'm checking the calendar... yep, it's 2013 not 1985.

The Airs are pretty close to tablet sized. Why would a new 'tablet with keyboard' be so much better than an Air?

Fair comparison?

Actually to be honest I liked it how in a way they did do a relatively far comparison, showing that the Surface is indeed heavier than the iPad. Either way the Surface for the price actually seems rather reasonable and enticing.

It was hardly fair that they touted the RT's keyboard as coming with the RT when they actually charge more for it - $50 more, while keyboards for the iPad often cost less.

And the price comparison - did they mention they were selling at a loss to liquidate unsold inventory? Or that the Surface Pro costs far more than the iPad even at liquidation prices?

I did laugh a bit when during the kickstand part and the ipad fell down. it's a clever commercial and pretty sure it'll sell more Surfaces. I use and have both Apple and Microsoft products so would this get me to by a Surface sure, but I'd purchase the Pro

i don't think you can debate the keyboard... You can get the RT keyboard for free and even though some retailers may sell it without and charge $50 that is still cheaper than any Apple keyboard. You can't compare the RT cover to a third party generic bluetooth keyboard that will work with any device including the surface.

As for the Surface Pro, that's a full PC its not comparable to the iPad. The RT is the comparable version to the iPad.

Apples and oranges. Airs are laptops meant for being TRANSPORTED easily while tablets are meant for actually USING them portably. Also, forget the keyboard for tablets, its only when you are in "base station" mode or need to enter lots of data. The normal state of using a tablet are for things like sitting on your veranda, tapping at the screen and occasionally entering a few words here and there with an on screen keyboard. That's why you buy a tablet PC.

Plus, there is the advantage of using tablets "either or" - either in tablet mode for portability or with a keyboard for heavier work, they can do both. Airs can only do one of those things because Airs don't have touch screens and its not like you are going to stand there typing with one hand, while balancing the Air on the other hand.

If they have so much money for the advertisement. They should just focus it on the user usage than this stupid comparison ads.

Unless they also have frustrated user who hate using RT then this ads is totally legit.

Isn't that what Apple did for years with those PC vs Mac ads? Comparisons? Those Mac ads seemed pretty successful.

Before the surface came out, I actually expected Apple to release a similar keyboard as a "Genius Cover". Now that Microsoft has had time to show how unpopular they are, however, I doubt we will see such an accessory any time soon.

The Surface tablet is a curiosity. It strives to be more than a cheap alternative to the iPad (unlike tablets running a certain other operating system). The problem, I think, is that we've moved into a largely consumption-based computing world. Microsoft keeps touting Office and multitasking and such, and while those are nice, most people really just want to check their email, post on facebook, watch some youtube, and surf the web.

"Integrated" keyboard! You just have to carry it around with you and snap it into place whenever you want to use it.

Eh, don't forget you have to do elaborate, choreographed dances on or around furniture before you snap them into place. Seems like a lot of work.

I agree that the surface pro is pretty cool, and the logical conclusion of the tablet market. Unfortunately, it's still a bit too expensive for the mainstream consumer. If they could get it down to the ~$600 range, you could justify buying it over a cheap laptop.

I'm not sure that we'll ever see an OSX equivalent. As apps become more and more sophisticated, there are fewer and fewer needs for the "full-fledged" OSX. Of course, I do not think iOS will replace OSX either. Perhaps if we are lucky, we will see an iOS+ mode one day, in which you can dock an iPhone/iPad and run OSX with a keyboard/monitor/mouse. I am doubtful even of that, however.

what's the use of these attacks at apple and heavy marketing when the product itself is useless, the need to make a better product not a better marketing team.

Well, there are the alleged rumors about OSX dying after 10.9, and merging it with iOS. In which case, the iPad will morph into that Surface Pro equivalent. But until iOS allows for an accessible file structure (without jailbreaking), it will not replace desktop OS's like OSX IMO.

Good ad. The idea of getting a surface is getting more and more appealing. Will wait to see what Surface 2 has in store for us.

MS could have focused on showing off their product, instead of just bashing the opponent's one over and over and over again. Losers...
