I really get satisfied from the iphone 3gs and the ipad. great tools, easy to use, beautifull designed. because of this experience i ve buyed an imac too and it becomes one of the big disapointments in my entire using computers career.

in the first time the mac operating system looks great, simple, cool and easy. at the second view it becomes a horror trip.

where are my files exactly?
i dont want to use an itunes like ui to copy files or data. i like it simple, straight and easy. easy like windows 7.
on a mac a mouse is slow like my grandpas car.
i want burn data to a blu-ray disc, no chance.
i want edit avi movies cant import them.
i want play new computer games, oh wow i can play starcraft 2 on a mac, whats about crysis 2, mafia 2 or most of the others?

the list goes on endless....

well maybe i am to old to get into a new operating system but through apple i learned to enjoy simplicity on my Windows 7. well done microsoft!

Finder Comment - What the heck? You aren’t forced to use coverflow

Slow Mouse - Change this in the settings

No Bluray - I wish my MBP had blu-ray too.

No AVI Support - I know, it sucks sometimes. There are plugins and of corse VLC for that tho

Very Little Game Support - Mac users aren’t gamers usually and Macs hold a lesser market share. Not Apples fault really. And you could always just install windows on a second partition for gaming.

Wow

Favorite quote by far:

"Simplicity:
Intuitive, familiar, and easy to use,
PCs do what you want: they just work."

Hahahahahhahahhahaha

Ummmm...

You are both wrong, Quicktime has been playing back Avi's since 1996, you should really use VLC though, regardless of the OS.

Hmm. Fraps must use a different codec or something then. Quicktime was only able to play the audio.

You only make yourself look like a fool when you post stuff like that.

There hasn't been RROD issues since the Jasper motherboard update.

Why are people so quick to say this! I have a Jasper and It has 3RRoD'd on me... Don't tell me I'm confused, I opened it to fix it and I can confirm it is the jasper, it also has the distinct power supply slot. I also have a friend who's experiencing terrible freezing issues with his jasper, I have not been able to fix that, and he's always had it in a well ventilated area.

Wanna keep drinking the cool-aid?

Is it just me, or are many of these arguments pointing out that it's difficult to move to PC after having used a Mac?

Like this one:

Apple's productivity suite file formats won't open in Microsoft Office on PCs. This can be a real hassle for Mac users sharing work documents with PC users.

True, the default Numbers file won't open in Excel. Who's the one lacking compatibility? Microsoft. Because if you're moving from PC to Mac, that old Excel file will open in Numbers (and it won't "miscalculate" anything like another section suggested... some graphs may not import properly for hardcore users, but for most people, there will be absolutely no issues.) And if you have to share with PC users, Numbers exports to Excel just fine to make up for Excel's inability to import it.

I know how you feel. As humans we always criticize what we have, and always try to look for better things, so I tried Ubuntu and the OSx, and doing so made me really appreciate Windows, a lot. With all the stress in life and stuff, the last thing I need is to try a new operating system, that also lacks so many of the things I'm used to. Perhaps if I was like 11 and had more time to figure out, or look for an alternative to programs.

I guess there is a reason there are so many mouse cursor accelerating applications for OS X. MouseZoom was my old favorite but it never matched Windows properly.

It's annoying to have to reset my Logitech Control Center every time I attach my mouse though. It takes far too long to drag across 1280 pixels otherwise.

The less said about Spotlight, the better.

I love this little bit:

And many of the shortcuts you're familiar with don't work the same way on a Mac.

Yes, when I switched, I hated leaving Alt-F4 for the far less intuitive Cmd-Q to Quit a program. Brutal really. What was I thinking?

Umm why is Microsoft comparing hardware features of Macs vs Windows PCs? Last time I checked MS was a software company. These ads are an insult to the intelligence of anyone who knows the slightest bit about computers.

And guess what, Microsoft sells copies of windows to people who install it on Apple's hardware! Apple is just another hardware company like Dell, HP, Toshiba, or anyone else. They just happen to include their own OS.

Thank you!! This is exactly the main reason I am having a serious problem about Microsoft having the audacity to put this crap up on their website. Apple advertises on their own website that you can install Windows natively on a Mac so Apple is doing nothing more than helping Microsoft sell more copies of Windows 7. It's counterproductive of Microsoft to talk against Macs as if they create hardware as well as the Windows OS. Just another reason why Microsoft is failing fast. I can't believe I'm saying this but Microsoft was in a much better position when Bill Gates was CEO. Ballmer is gonna single handedly bring down Microsoft to it's knees.

umm...
System Preferences/Mouse/Tracking Speed

and are you saying you dislike spotlight?

I just love how one of Microsoft's main arguments against Macs is that "Macs only come in white or silver."

WTF!?

-Don

And Macs come with easily discolored white power cords. Oh the humanity.
I read some of those "learn more", and let me tell you, some of them are a reach or downright bullhocky.

Not apple fault. Some one is being a little nice.

Lets see. Apple has had multiple big name devs companies come out recently and call the drivers apple makes crap.

Apple uses low end to low medium range graphic card in their computers. Only way to get a mid-high range card is fork out 3+k of money for the mac pros.
Apple has had a long history of both those factors. Apple does not make it easy for game devs on the OSX plat form and then even make it worse by putting crappy graphic card in their computers.

I know I'm a little late to this post, but I do customer service for Apple so I sit and read these forums all day as they are one of the only sites I'm allowed to view on my work computer.

I'm a college student, 19 years old, and I purchased a Macbook as my first laptop with the college promotion.

I loved it, my dad splurged a little for once and it was a very nice machine.

I've since moved on between a couple MBP's and now I use a Macbook Air with Windows 7 on a separate partition for gaming.

The only complaint I have about Macintosh is the fact that there is not enough compatibility yet with the games that I play. Admittedly, I was playing EverQuest 2, which is an old game so I didn't expect much.
I can also say that as far as pricing for gaming computers go, you can build a comparable, if not much better, PC for cheaper.
I understand that this is not Apple's main market, but for all the fanboys out there, you need to recognize that Apple is not infallible.

Sorry for the wall of text, just wanted to put my opinion out there.

I dont understand your problem with the mouse settings.

And whats so wrong with Spotlight’s interface.

Okay, you are right. I am totally fine with meh graphics as I would much rather play on an xbox than on a PC.

As in politics, I don't trust anyone who talks more about the opponent than him/herself. This kind of marketing sucks, it sucked when Apple did it, it sucks when Microsoft does it. If they're going to copy Apple, don't copy the worst aspect of Apple.

From a corporate POV, the "I'm a Mac - I'm a PC" campaign made some sense for Apple as they were the market underdog with very little brand-awareness from the general public. In terms of marketing strategy, Apple comparing itself to the "giant" Microsoft had a serious impact.

But Microsoft already has a name and dominates the marketplace so it's dumb to try to fight back with the same device. Actually they contribute to increasing the "Apple" brand-awareness while they should act as if Mac OS was non-existent and just do their thing.

Microsoft's problem with Windows is that they don't have a lot of control on the quality of user experience. PC hardware can be total crap; even with the top brands. The brand new Dell laptop I use at work is giving me the blue screen several times a week (with XP). As long as this kind of stuff happens, MFST is shooting itself in the foot when trying appear as intrinsically superior to Apple.
