I dont understand your problem with the mouse settings.
You need third party software in order to push it beyond Apple's defaults. I've always used third party software for it. It's unbearable otherwise.

And whats so wrong with Spotlight’s interface.
Show All no longer automatically sorts into file type categories and with Quick Look hits no longer migrate to the top. It's a kludge compared to Tiger.

This is before losing access to your metadata when moving to Snow Leopard. It's not worth the time to rebuild thousands of comments.

I really get satisfied from the iphone 3gs and the ipad. great tools, easy to use, beautifull designed. because of this experience i ve buyed an imac too and it becomes one of the big disapointments in my entire using computers career.

in the first time the mac operating system looks great, simple, cool and easy. at the second view it becomes a horror trip.

where are my files exactly?
i dont want to use an itunes like ui to copy files or data. i like it simple, straight and easy. easy like windows 7.
on a mac a mouse is slow like my grandpas car.
i want burn data to a blu-ray disc, no chance.
i want edit avi movies cant import them.
i want play new computer games, oh wow i can play starcraft 2 on a mac, whats about crysis 2, mafia 2 or most of the others?

the list goes on endless....

well maybe i am to old to get into a new operating system but through apple i learned to enjoy simplicity on my Windows 7. well done microsoft!

Ok were to begin? First of all, your itunes files are in your music folder... Did you even attempt to search for them before commenting? Let me be a little more specific, click the icon that says FINDER, then click the icon on the left that says MUSIC, then click the folder named iTUNES, then click the folder named iTUNES MUSIC. There they are! If you were referring to drag-and-drop music into the iphone directly, please keep in mind that this has NOTHING to do with the OS and that you need a UI program to sync music with Zune too...

Ok next. Your mouse is slow? Why don't you adjust the settings? I'm guessing you don't know, if you press an icon called "system preferences" you have a lot of nifty options! Among those you'll find "mouse". Press that and you'll be granted the option to make it faster. Please notice my hint of sarcasm, this is just retarded. You're blaming an OS for your own stupidity.

You want to burn data to a blu-ray disk? then why exactly did you buy a computer that doesn't have a blu-ray disk burner? I find that a bit retarded. You do realize that not all computers have blue-ray players right? You need to do your research on before you buy. If blu-ray is really that important to you, then I see no reason why you bought a computer without a blu-ray disk burner, you should have done your research.

I import avi movies all the time, I bet you didn't google it before posting did you? Of course you need a third party plugin, but then again windows is chuck full of third party stuff. I hardly call this avi problem an argument, you could have also just as easily converted the file to something else, if your paranoid and don't trust third party plugins...

You want to play computer games? I'm sorry but I just find this one hilarious every time I read it. Are you by any chance 12 years old? If your old enough to play Crysis your old enough to get a job, move out of your parents house, and get yourself a girlfriend. People still game on their computers??? But sure, everyone's entitled to do what they wish. But it ask you, why on earth would you buy a mac if you want to play games, it sound rather silly doesn't it? If you want to game on your computer (and make yourself a girl repellent) why did you purchase a mac, only to whine about it now? But don't worry 99% of the computer using population have matured to a level where they don't need to game on their computers, they can actually be productive with them! I suggest you do the same.

The only thing you proved with your post is that you're an idiot. You bought a computer without a blu-ray drive but expected it to burn blu-ray disks. You bought a computer with an OS with very little game versatility yet you want to play games with it? Do your research, macs are great computers, but they aren't for everyone, because everyones needs are different.

In response to the dude talking about SNAP in compiz:
yeah, I actually think I remember using that when I played around with ubuntu a few years ago.

I know how you feel. As humans we always criticize what we have, and always try to look for better things, so I tried Ubuntu and the OSx, and doing so made me really appreciate Windows, a lot. With all the stress in life and stuff, the last thing I need is to try a new operating system, that also lacks so many of the things I'm used to. Perhaps if I was like 11 and had more time to figure out, or look for an alternative to programs.

... or actually tried it for more than 5 minutes in an Apple store.

You only make yourself look like a fool when you post stuff like that.

There hasn't been RROD issues since the Jasper motherboard update.

Still it took them 3 years to get it right...

and I still have my Launch PS3 console :)

Okay, I never used a mac before Leopard so you win. But you can search for metadata:
A search for photos taken with the flash off and taken in the Normal orientation - Flash:0 Orientation:1

You can also search for different file types with ‘Kind:xxxx’ and other stuff. IDK if this is what you mean or if you mean that upgrading to Snow Leopard caused all your metadata to get scrubbed.

You're only reinforcing why it's a kludge post-Tiger. I never had to use arguments in Spotlight or add any other search options to find what I wanted. Hits no longer migrate to the front since Quick Look doesn't change Last Opened.

I suspect you find my problems with the mouse cursor acceleration to be baffling.

You get older and much more jaded.

Finder Comment - What the heck? You aren’t forced to use coverflow

Slow Mouse - Change this in the settings

No Bluray - I wish my MBP had blu-ray too.

No AVI Support - I know, it sucks sometimes. There are plugins and of corse VLC for that tho

Very Little Game Support - Mac users aren’t gamers usually and Macs hold a lesser market share. Not Apples fault really. And you could always just install windows on a second partition for gaming.

I dident use coverflow - i just wanted to see what i copy to what target without any ******** no one needs
slow mouse - i changed it to maximum and it is still to slow and imprecise
avi support - i cant import avi files to an editing solution like premiere
game support - mac users want to play games as well, mac users cant change their graphics card easiely they have too buy an expensive upgrade like an nvidia quadro no one needs either

i dont want to buy dozens plugins to perform simple tasks like copy data on an usb ntsc drive or speed up my mouse.

i cant plug my eizo tft to a mac without buying an adapter.

i do not need all this shiny, blinky eyecandy i just need a simple solution for my daily routine. i am unable to this on mac and i can asure you, i tried hard.

What works for you works for you. Keep using windows 7 and windows hardware, fine by me.

In response to the mouse dude:
You aren’t a fan of the way the physical mouse speed correlates to the on-screen mouse speed? You would rather have a locked speed so that no matter how slowly you move your hand, the mouse moves the same speed as always?

To each is own.

Genuine question.

I've been reading excellent reviews of the new USB3 external drives with there phenomenal speeds. Do the new macs that are about to launch support these new drives?

No, not that I have heard of. But know too that the reason why AAPL has such high earnings is not only because of their pricing and volume, but also because they keep their margins low. When you start adding on features, that cuts directly into the margin, which is why I believe they don't have blu ray, or USB 3.0, or HDMI (except for the new minis), or why the pads don't have USB, and on and on and on. Now that the stock price is sailing high, they have no incentive to make changes either because a cut in margins would disappoint Wall St, the stock could fall, and nobody at AAPL is going to let that happen.

My .02 on this, from someone who ditched a Blackberry for an iPhone, and then bought a Mini, is one of muted disappointment. Love the iPhone, meh on the mini.

There was a point in time where Apple's OS X had Windows XP, and Vista, beat. The utilitarian style of XP was a turnoff and we all know how Vista turned out. But 7 is another story. I've had a few glitches here and there, but I have to say that I honestly prefer Win 7 over OS X. The aesthetics of it are great, my boot times are ultra fast, and I have no problems with it crashing. I like the quick-snap side by side windows as well as a few other shortcuts it has that OS X doesn't have.

At least one poster said that competition is great for consumers and I couldn't agree more. Neither OS is perfect and IMO, each has several (if not more) features the other does not have. But I do think that Apple needs to get to work and start adding some features.

Admit defeat? Are you serious? I'm a recent Mac convert and I love it, but Microsoft is huge and still dominates the home computer market and they will for many years to come.

Just a bit curious as to why you don't just replace the drive on that iMac? They are dirt cheap now.

Dominates? Only because they are cheap products.

He didn't just replace the hard drive because 1) he didn't have AppleCare and 2) he thought he didn't need to have a back-up.

btw– ESOL?

Calling me an idiot? This is the charming mac fanatics atmosphere of a constructive debate?

Professionells like you doesent play computer games. Wow, i do that long before you are born, started on a C64.

Professionells like you doesent into entertainment and dont watch movies as well. you dont need a blu-ray drive because your godfather told you to buy movies on itunes.

Maybe you are a girl and simply falling in love with this shiny blending Mac OS. I suggest you should buy some shoes instead.

have a nice day.

Haha! Microsoft is now clearly acknowledging that M:apple:cs are better. A quick read through the site proves my point.

In a rather open acknowledgement of Apple's recent gains in both marketshare and mindshare, Microsoft has posted a PC vs. Mac section on their Windows 7 website.

Apple had been rather open about Microsoft's dominance for a number of years so the news worthy part of this post is just that Microsoft is finally playing the game too.

Earlier today we reported that Apple was the most popular notebook brand amongst U.S. college students.

Seeings how this article is about Microsoft, it seems like this last comment should be taken as a comparison between Apple and Microsoft. Microsoft isn't a notebook brand so Apple being the most popular brand of hardware doesn't seem to have much relevance to Microsoft or even to the rest of this post. Since both Apple and Microsoft are software companies, it might have been more valid to compare the software. Who's software does your report from earlier today say is most popular?

I'm sure this isn't revolutionary to anyone, but Apple is the only hardware manufacture for Apple's MacOSX software. If you want OSX you have to buy Apple. If you want (or grudgingly except, whatever is the case) Microsofts OS you have any number of hardware manufacturers. Why should any one of those manufacturers necessarily have to have more of a hardware share than Apple? It seems to me like you are building a pedestal for Apple to sit atop and you are building it out of a lot of smoke and mirrors.

I realize that the site is called MacRumors, but a lot of the time the posts seem unnecessarily biased. I'm writing this on an iMac and I love my 32gig 3rd gen iPod Touch and I recommend Macs to anyone who asks but I dont understand why discussions about Macs and PC's are always riddled with bias (or, in the case of PC fans, ad hominem attacks). Maybe I'm wrong.

Well after having a MBP and selling it after two months because I could not take anymore, sorry but I agree with Microsoft. OS X is too dumbed down. Like previous user said, I want to see exactly my files, where they are, I want to be able to make the OS look however I want, if I want it to look transparent, classic, animations on or off. OS X has some customization, but not even close to Windows. Had my time with a MAC, it satisfied my curiosity, but I ain't going back! And in my humble opinion, Win 7 is a much more robust OS than Snow Leopard. I love Apple mobile devices, have had like 5 iPods, 3 iPhones (and buying the 4th soon) but on my desktop OS, I'll stick to what I know and am comfortable with.

The ad campaign fails to convince Multimedia Professionals to switch to PC. Again the Mac is the supreme Media Pro machine. I would get a PC (they're cheaper) but Mac is great for Audio production, I dread the thought of switching from Logic to Pro Tools or Acid.

MacOSX can be in most household by now, but it is not the current direction of Apple. This is going to be the main factor why Apple isn't the most used O/S in the world:

A) Apple would have to open its O/S to other computer makers like Dell, HP, Lenovo; and be a valid choice in O/S installation.

B) And Apple would need to change the mindset of most people who perceive the over all cost of ownership of a Mac to be significantly higher than that of a PC. PC/Windows is "cheaper". An intelligent person knows that both PC and Mac should cost the same if circumstances are the same and all things were obtain legally. To a lot of people, "cheaper" means O/S is easier to pirate, plenty of pirate options for PC compare to MAC. Cost of ownership = far less than a Mac. You can get practically anything for "free" if you look. It doesn't take a lot of effort. As for the Mac, though you can manage to find them, they are not as available.

C) Perceive sheer perception of more applications for Windows compare to for Mac. Regardless of quality.

D) More games on Windows.

With all that, Apple isn't doing bad considering what it's up against, and what it stands by. AS people weighs what Apple offers against A) openness, B) Cost of ownership not really more, C) avoid piracy, D) Don't care about gaming on PC... a Mac is really attractive.

Unifying simplicity that mostly works versus... <"benefits" of a PC>.

12% of households had macs as of early last year. Seems to be doing pretty well so far. If you look at computer internet usage, things look quite a bit better then that (not counting enterprise).

a) Because other hardware makers build the iPod for it to get dominant market-share despite a variety of vendors before?

b) If you didn't buy it, you don't count. Piracy is not sustainable. Anyone pirating software puts a drain on the system that does more harm then good. Low piracy rates on OS X have led Apple to reduce the price of their software every year as much of this software is falling in the sweet spot where people buy it even if they don't have a significant use and economy of scale. The AppStore is also considered very affordable do to lack of piracy.

c) Not really a perception anymore.

d) Steam isn't a good start? World of Warcraft? Starcraft II? How many blockbuster games are not on the Mac? Apple has a significant advantage over Microsoft in casual games. "Hardcore" gamers make up a pretty low market-share.

This is a free market. An ideal market centers on a single vendor that has "won". That is not a monopoly if they are not using their power to regulate the market. There is nothing wrong with a product dominating a market based on its merits. If Apple slacks or decides not to go after a market, someone else will. Something like Windows (an operating system monopoly) is pretty rare in general. Apple is taking the normal approach.

Enterprise customers (that you don't address), have historically liked multiple vendors to bid against. That is currently Microsoft's stronghold. That is starting to change as many IT departments are seeing a top-down push for macs, security concerns are a bigger part of the decision, and corporate iOS applications are becoming more common.

I have spend so much time and money repairing my Windows PC

Now I am a Mac user. I am sure there will features that I am missing out on. But it works and it hasn't crashed once, only occasional programme. I am not a gamer, just the occassional poker. I love my Mac and I am never going back to that horrid windows experience!

Deciding between having the option for a blu-ray drive? Oh wait Steve jobs told me I don't need or want to even have the option of a blu ray drive on a 3 grand laptop

I know I'm a little late to this post, but I do customer service for Apple so I sit and read these forums all day as they are one of the only sites I'm allowed to view on my work computer.

I'm a college student, 19 years old, and I purchased a Macbook as my first laptop with the college promotion.

I loved it, my dad splurged a little for once and it was a very nice machine.

I've since moved on between a couple MBP's and now I use a Macbook Air with Windows 7 on a separate partition for gaming.

The only complaint I have about Macintosh is the fact that there is not enough compatibility yet with the games that I play. Admittedly, I was playing EverQuest 2, which is an old game so I didn't expect much.
I can also say that as far as pricing for gaming computers go, you can build a comparable, if not much better, PC for cheaper.
I understand that this is not Apple's main market, but for all the fanboys out there, you need to recognize that Apple is not infallible.

Sorry for the wall of text, just wanted to put my opinion out there.

Just the fact that you use a Macbook Air for gaming sorta brings down your point.

Microsoft Ad against Mac means they are afraid from apple; Mac market share is increasing ; Apple may win in North America Market, but they won't compete with Microsoft in the long term.
