OK - so buy a PC. Then replace the tower unit if you want to upgrade and were too dumb to buy something with a simple upgrade path.

Or buy an iMac - and then a year later replace the whole thing including the 27" display.

Are you insane?

Firstly, with regards to your final question/comment - I think I could find many people who would answer in the affirmative for me, but I'm not sensitive about that!

But respecting your 'argument' - if you're buying something with a 'simple upgrade path' you're already;
1, admitting obsolescence
2, denying your upgrade path any flexibility from old architecture.

Further, I suspect the majority of consumers are not 'computer builders' so by using a servicing company they will be paying retail prices for their limited upgrade. I'd expect they're far more likely to buy 'new tech' to keep abreast of things if they can afford it and feel the need to.

Finally, Apple does offer the Mac Pro to power users which provides some degree of upgrade flexibility.

I'm really not trying to go after you personally, simply concerned that you don't unfairly compare Apples with Lemons. ;)

Still Boggles My Mind Why micro$oft Trolls Are Here!

So I emailed a fellow IT colleague of mine ( yep, you guessed it - another Mac user ) and was writing about the winbloze huggers ( I was admonished for using the word "windoze" earlier by a PC idiot) trolling this forum. I found his reply quite hysterical and wanted to share.

The only reason they're in the forum bating you guys is because they have no life and likely no job (otherwise, where do they find the time?). Ask them if they got lost on the Internets. Tell them that Internet Explorer must not be telling them that their at a Mac-specific site. The only other reason would be that they are really Steve Balmer trying a pathetic gorilla campaign to win back converts, much like the new ad campaign and stores.

Also, tell them that they should go apply at the Microsoft Store for work if they are unemployed, but be sure to explain that there is a square dance requirement with the job.

No, you should just use the digital copy of the movie that is being included in nearly every major release these days. Not to mention, at least a few studios are shipping their new releases as dual-disc, with Blu-Ray and DVD discs as well as a digital copy. This will become standard practice very quickly, until DVD is in its final days as a widespread, popular format (which will be many years from now).

nice idea!

Does it come in HD/1080p?

Yeah, people leaping to defend Windows at every mention irritate me, too, but you're not helping your case by saying things like 'Micro$oft' and 'Windoze' (WinBlows, whatever). (And no, I'm not a PC fanboy; I hate Windows/PCs.)

So much FUD on that site.

Apart from the Blu Ray Player, TV tuner, the rest is either personal opinion or just plain wrong. Macs don't share as well for example, anyone who has ever tried hooking a Windows PC to a wifi network I'm sure will testify against that.

"Apple's productivity suite file formats won't open in Microsoft Office on PCs. This can be a real hassle for Mac users sharing work documents with PC users."

Apparently Microsoft forgot they make Office for Mac.

Thanks. I will keep your points in mind. I was digressing to their level, which reminds me of a saying I once heard, "never argue with an idiot because all they do is bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."

I think it's more the use of "winbloze" and "windoze" that made you look ridiculous. Plus calling people an "idiot" for their opinion is in very bad taste. When you read posts on this site (or any for that matter) that are not 100% pro-apple on each and every issue it doesn't necessarily mean they are a "windows hugger" as you put it.

I own a Macbook, and a PC with Linux and windows on it. I use Windows for my work simply because OSX doesn't have the specialized software I need and there aren't any alternatives at this moment. I use Linux and OSX during my personal time because I find it fun to use something different and I enjoy the software they have to offer (I still use Windows for gaming for obvious reasons).

Do you really need to be so malevolent towards guys like me? Saying we are PC huggers or idiots or don't have a job, really? Is that how you conduct yourself in public or among friends?

Expecting This Response From Him:
“No, you are a moron because you use Winblows."

I second that - I have two PC's on the network through an airport extreme - it is a crap shot whether the laptop detects the upstairs desktop computer and yet funny enough with my two apple computers using AFP/Bonjour my iMac always appears on the network without any problems. If I had a dollar for every time I heard people complain about interoperability issues between not only Windows of the same generation but intergeneration compatibility issues I'd be able to buy Microsoft. Maybe Microsoft should actually fix their operating system instead of creating nonsense about a competitor.

Oh, and not only do they forget about Office for Mac but they also forget iWork and Lotus Symphony too. The last time I checked, Lotus Symphony was a free download and does everything an end user would need plus free downloadable templates off the website as well.

Which OS are the running? My computers all work very well together running Windows 7 on Homegroup

I have two PC's on the network through an airport extreme...

Have you considered the possibility that the Apple Airport Extreme is perhaps the problem?

My various Windows systems (Server 2003, WinXP, Vista, 7) get along fine with my Linksys B/G wireless + GbE wired network.

The only issue I have is that the laptops fall back to "B" speed when I'm in the east garden patio - but I think that's because the kitchen (thus the refrigerator, dual oven, stove etc) is between the east garden patio and the access point in the office. No problems in the north garden patio or any other part of the house.

I can't even get Windows 7 to detect a ubiquity nanostation half the time. Airport is not the problem.

(If you don't know whats so special about a ubiquity, they're 2-3x more powerful than a consumer grade wireless and you have to have a permit to operate one)

Hahaha!!!

One of the Tweets in the Twitter feed on that site (the second one that came up for me):

"so apparently it's time to upgrade my laptop to win 7 with a fresh install... it's running really SLOW! right now..."

Wow. Advertising FAIL!

Both are running Windows 7 - the upstairs has a hard disk being shared and used as a backup device, the laptop is supposed to backup to the hard disk but the problem is every time the laptop is taken to work then back home again by the flat mate it fails to pick up the remote hard disk and fail to back up. It annoyed me so much I've given him a thumb drive to back up his laptop each night - something like that just shouldn't happen.

No, because if my two Mac's work without a problem then the problem resides with Windows. The poor reliability of Windows to broadcast its computer name to other computers on the network speaks more about Microsofts crappy protocol more than anything else.

Good for you - but since I see no Mac's in that equation - why are you entering the discussion in the first place? I am taking about a mixed environment - I couldn't care less about an all Windows jamboree.

Agreed; unfortunately people seem to want to blame Airport for Microsofts inability to create a protocol that doesn't royally suck. If iFolder works, AFP works, NFS works then there should be no reason for SMB to be failing to work between two Windows 7 machines.

And whats bad about that is that the tweets are the same every time you load the page, and they are from like a month into the launch. None of them are current.

Its ridiculous.

I got around the annoyances of SMB by making it a policy for any computers accessing the system at work to have NFSAXE installed.

One thing that annoys the hell out of me about OS X (besides containing 6 or 7 different interface styles) is that you can't switch between documents on the desktop by pressing the first letter of the title like you can with Win 7. On OS X it'll jump to some random document and then refuse to advance to any other one.

Uh... are you sure? I'm pretty sure I've done that before.

First of all, tell your friend that it's 'they're' and 'guerilla'.

Secondly, I checked what the term 'troll' means and I can confidently say that yours is one of the few posts that qualify.

Thirdly, this whole 'winbloze' and 'PC idiot' stuff is not just incredibly immature, but it also shows poor judgement. Many people here who are regularly called names use Macs and have been using Macs for a while. But don't be an ****hole (British spelling) about people having their own opinions about a particular OS. If we stick to stupid stereotypes and speculations, you might be just as well a divorced middle-aged man in an entry-level position with a second-hand Mac with self-confidence issues. If you need to insult people to feel better; if a corporation's success substitutes for your own, then perhaps you should be looking for a job. Even if you have one.

Oh snap! I am convinced. I am going back to windoze now. I am selling my Macs on Craigslist. I have too much free time now that I don't have to troubleshoot a windoze driver issue or something.

Give him two weeks, he will be back.

(Using my Microsoft wireless keyboard to go wireless but i cant stand it! took me 2 minutes to type a period! Going to the apple store Friday)

Yeah, people can make their point without resorting to 'Windoze' and 'Micro$oft'. You can criticise non-Apple computers and Windows without resorting to childish namecalling. I have plenty of criticism for both, but you don't see me going 'nyah nyah, Windoze lusers' or anything similar. Some people prefer Windows—that's fine; doesn't mean that I need to insult them. (And vice versa; I use a Mac and I'm just fine with that. :D)

Positive.

Then let me make sure we're talking about the same thing, because I just tried it. I have a bunch of documents on my desktop. I press the letter "C" and it highlights the first document that starts with "C". Then I press the letter "M" and it highlights "Macintosh HD" because that's the first one that starts with "M". Once a file is selected, I use the arrow keys to move the selection around from file to file.

Is that what you were trying to do? Because it definitely works here...

Still here? Nice! Google images is a great resource. Hey don't stop with your Macs, why don't you post a pic of your gulfstream, yacht, mansion, ferrari, playboy centerfold girlfriend, etc. for all to see? It's none of your business what Macs I own. "And you can tell that, home boy!" ( Antoine Dodson)

This is a Mac specific site, at least I masterfully deduced that from the name "Mac Rumors". Call me crazy, but if someone that likes windows comes to a Mac forum to tell all Mac users windows is better than OSX, isn't that some form of idiocy? I have worked with windows extensively in my past. I had a MSDN license for a number of years. My opinions of windows being crap are not off base because I have witnessed their "third-rate products" (gee who said that?) poorly perform in a corporate environment over the years. I am not calling people that use windows idiots just those windoze users that want to intrude a Mac forum to tell Mac users that windows is really better than OSX. I have zero headaches now that I use Linux and OSX. It boggles my mind how someone can say with a straight face how windows is more stable than Linux or OSX.

Who here said they liked windows or said it was better or more stable? You are so paranoid and delusional, do you think people here are out to get you or secretly trying to bring down Apple by posting on a rumors site? Oh and I do own mac hardware. And no this is not from google.
