You run the Mac into the ground, you drive away professionals.

You drive away professionals, the fewer developers make apps for iOS (which uses the Mac).

The fewer developers make apps for iOS, the lower sales you have (in your cash cow products, no less)

The lower sales you have across the board, the more developers have even less reason to develop for your platform.

The more developers have even less reason to develop for your platform, you slip into a deep sales slump.

You slip into a deep sales slump, you start canceling peripheral products and services in the ecosystem to "refocus."

You start canceling peripheral products and services in your ecosystem, you reduce your lock-in.

You reduce your lock-in, the more customers you lose to competing platforms.

The more customers you lose to competing platforms, the more cash you bleed out.

The more cash you bleed out, the more desperate you get with ever more gimmicky features.

The more desperate you get with ever more gimmicky features, the more your consumer brand image is damaged.

The more your consumer brand image is damaged, you become the laughing stock of the industry (such as RIM, Yahoo, old Apple).

You become the laughing stock of the industry and it's game over, man. GAME FREAKING OVER.

Apple isn't somehow different than any other company that has suffered a decline. Apple got lucky back in the 90s, plain and simple. Their phenomenal leader returned and it's a success story unlike we've ever seen. But they're not immune. I've seen many other companies wander down this path to irrelevancy after enormous success blinded them. It has happened before, and it will happen to most companies at some point. As far as tech companies go, Apple is pretty freaking old. It's surprising that they've survived this long. It's not too late to turn things around, but all I'm saying is that they're no longer heading in the right direction.

No professional ever said "Holy hell my computer isn't thin enough!" They say "Dammit this thing is too slow! And I've only got 30 minutes of battery life left. No no no!" You can't just keep going this long between updates to the Mac and expect Pros to stick around. We are always under pressure to make bigger and better projects at higher resolution than ever before and many of us regularly update our hardware. In just a few years we've gone from 18-22MP RAW photos being common to 50MP. We've gone from 1080p30 being common to 4K60 with HDR. We've gone from having to design non-responsive websites with one dimension to responsive websites with 4-6 breakpoint dimensions, which massively increases the working size of our design files. I understand part of it is Intel's problem, but part of it isn't—and I'm not just talking about restricting their specs by making it so thin. Apple has a successful chip design team making the various chips for iOS, tvOS and watchOS. They could solve the problem for the Mac if they put enough effort behind it. I hope they are.

Anyway to up-vote this 2K times, actuality more ...

Righto - so you got though Vista with NO problems. I laugh in your face. 7 was the only stable OS - 10 is still pretty bad...

Oh and the 2 UI metaphor exist on your machine so you saying that has never happened to you is just plain untrue.
http://www.techrepublic.com/article...uis-why-are-both-still-options-in-windows-10/
You might want to reread the posts you put up. Your comment was about Windows 10 as was mine.
And I really don't care about what Techrepublic had to say about the control panel versus settings. I can find my way about both just fine.
I will give you one thing, Vista was awful. But since our discussion isn't about Vista....................

Do not know about you all, but after Apple's unveiling the long-awaited MBPs, I felt that Apple is now facing a tipping point:

"The tipping point is the critical point in an evolving situation that leads to a new and irreversible development."
And that irreversible development appears to be a significant exodus to Microsoft hardware/OS/apps in a zero-sum game.

We will know within a short time -- maybe one fiscal year. But if it does become a tipping point, then it is self-inflicted and the blame lies on Tim Cook's shoulders.

Put the SD card slot back Apple. I do not want adapters full of wires hanging off the side and adding extra cord weight, pulling at the laptop. This is a step back in every way. If SJ's was here, Someone would be getting fired.

It's not that bad how some people are picturing it. Nobody has still created a better laptop. I think 2nd gen of this laptops will be great and there will be no dongles problem.

Actually, Apple created the better laptop. 2015>2016. And for me, it's not the dongles I am worried about. Even tough I think you are making a mistake if you think dongles won't be a problem in 1-2 years. It will be the same as today. In 2020+ maybe we won't need dongles.

But as I said, I didn't complain about dongles. Battery life is awful, and touch bar is a total gimmick. In direct sun light, I can't even see what's on the touch bar. And even when I see what's there, I find no use for it, since keyboard shortcuts are way better and faster. And even then, touch bar is a buggy gimmick.

I won't purchase a MBP with touchbar ever again. And if apple doesn't release the 15 without TB, well, I will stick to my 2014 MBP as long as possible :)

The fact is that Apple just don't make Pro hardware anymore. It's over. They'll replace the 'Pro' label with something else for the Macbook soon enough, and there won't be another Mac Pro.

No-one in their right might would buy a MBP as a pro laptop.

They'll still sell a load to fanboys, rich consumers and the stupid, but it is a terrible investment for anyone who needs a powerful laptop for graphics or anything processor or RAM intensive.

Personally I think there's a lot on nonsense being talked by people who don't use Macs professionally. I had a maxed out 2015 Macbook pro 13" and have changed to a maxed out 2016 touchbar MacBook Pro 15" that I use everyday in my job as a designer. The difference is excellent. It has a fantastic keyboard and trackpad, an excellent screen and the touchbar works very nicely. Once Adobe starts adding touchbar support later this month it will hugely improve my workflow.
For me running Photoshop, Illustrator, Omniplan and numerous other apps all day the battery easily lasts in line with Apples figures.
You don't need to carry a million dongles around with you as when you work out and about you don't carry all your peripherals. When in the office or at home plugging a dongle in so you can plug your various drives and monitors in isn't such big deal.
I've been using Macs as a professional designer for 20 years and can happily say that the new MacBook Pro is easily the best MacBook Apple have ever made and is a good step up from last years model for those who can afford it and need it.

Fire the cook!

When I need to switch back to
Windows because Apple don't longer produce Macs that can be used as a tool then I will not longer buy overpriced Iphones and iPads from them with that inferior cloud service.

Nah, Apple will just discontinue some of the Macs like the Mac Pro and just say no one was buying them so it didn't make sense to make them. Even though the real reason is that people aren't going to pay today's prices for 3-4 year old hardware.

THIS. It's so depressingly true. And it's exactly what they did with FCPX.

They have a good thing, totally ruin it, the market evaporates. Just astonishingly dumb.

the new macbook pro. what a mess.
the new surface pro. what a brilliant iteration.

also the price is quite nice - doesn't surprise me at all. M$ did a good job there.

I took my surface pro back and got a MacBook Pro. Apples and oranges, seriously. Not a Windows hater as I use Windows box as my primary graphics machine

It's so disappointing that Apple went 5 years without an update and put out that piece of crap. It's like they lost track of the core MBP base, PRO USERS. 16GB max RAM? 10 hour battery life under basic conditions? People running heavily draining Adobe Creative Suite apps and other editing software need more out of a MBP than what is being offered. Also, no one who's a real pro user gives a damn about a gimmick like the touchbar.

I had no idea what a surface was until this article. I'll definitively take a look into it now since macrumors mentioned it. It must be good!

How do you define "pro" user?

I'm surprised by this. Apple has been f**king up as lately. It's like they forgot that the "Pro" market is what helped make them what they are and now Apple is just brushing them off. Sad.

Not Really. I've been using Macs for 20 years so have a pretty good base reference. I have been using the new MBP everyday, all day, for the last couple of weeks. For me its a great machine and is a pleasure to use.
