I can actually believe Microsoft. I'm reading and typing this on a 2016 15", and unless something miraculous happens I'll be returning it and keeping my Mid-2014 as a backup to the Mid-2015 I ordered shortly after the 2016 MBs were announced.

4299$ laptop and it is still feature the DDR3 technology which introduced by the way in 2006. so this 4299$ 2017 laptop and my old 300$ Celeron PC I built when I was a teenager have something in common :) :)

This is also one of those smoke screen statements that's not backed up with any numbers.

For example last month they could have had 10 mbps traded in and now this month its 15. That's more than ever before?

Didn't Schiller make a similar statement about the 2016 MB Pro recently?

No, its even worse with its schizophrenic interface.

Can you elaborate? In what way is it schizophrenic?

Take note Apple. It is a nice machine but for the money, it's lacking in legacy connectivity, graphics power and main memory. Also battery life sacrificed for thinness.

For a Pro laptop, thinness is not the first consideration. 32 or 64GB could have been available with a larger battery.

I agree completely. I've been waiting for a couple of years for these new models and I was completely unimpressed. The TouchBar might be nice for the casual consumer but I think it's just a gimmick to most pro users. I ended up walking out of the store with a 2015 MacBook Pro to replace my 2011 MackBook Air. Apple, are you listening?? We're the folks developing the applications for your ecosystem. Don't sh*t on us.

As a developer, I hated the new shallow keyboard and I also don't like the lack of a physical escape key. And what happened to cable management? Apple has lost its way under Tim Cook. As a pro user, I don't need the lightest, thinnest laptop available. I'd rather have faster CPUs, more memory and storage, Retina screen, a comfortable keyboard, and longer battery life.

I have to say in my case I love my 2016 Non TB MacBook Pro. Its a beautiful machine and purrs like a kitten. I could not see myself thinking the same thing about any Windows laptops. I like Windows 10 but most other laptops just feel cheap to me. The MacBook Pro is a solid machine. That said I know its not the "PRO" machine some of you were looking for. I've spent less then 10$ on dongles so..

Well... apple disappointed me with their upgraded price structures - i have been holding off getting a new macbook for years.

But then microsoft disappointed me in their lack of upgrade to the surface pro 4, or lack of revised costs in the face of no CPU's to upgrade to...

Both have failed to gain money from me.

He did. He said Apple had received more online orders for the new MBPs; this was meaningless because all prior retina MBPs were available the day of their launch at both stores and online.

Sometimes I think that MS only needs to make Windows UI look good, the new wallpapers are a good start, work on a cleaner file explorer, reduce the stupid amount of alerts and confirmations, restarts due to constant updates and an attractive start menu and bar, good apps will do the rest. Problems with Registry, Win32 exceptions, DLL hells, spyware, viruses etc is something that still exists, but I can´t deny that I haven´t had to install an antivirus on any of my two windows machines for the past years, since the Apple "just works" no longer exists the bar is lower.

I've been using Windows 10 on a gaming machine since even before it was publicly released in 2015 and it's really stable. Performance is really good, on desktop at least. No virus problems at all, Windows Defender does a good job so far.

Windows 10 is actually good. The problem IMO is that Windows 10 is a Frankenstein with pieces from Windows 7, 8, and 10. Since Windows supports software from more than 10 years ago many developers simply don't invest in renewing their software and the result is that it's difficult to find modern software from small developers like you can on macOS.

The other day I was setting up a Windows desktop machine for working (design and web dev) and looked for software such as iStat Menus, BetterTouchTool, FontCase, Karabiner, Alfred, etc. I couldn't find anything that was remotely interesting. Most software available is from the Windows 7 era, is not compatible with scaling on hi DPI monitors, or it just doesn't offer the functionality needed.

I really wonder how Apple will move forward. The public perception is the touch bar is a gimmick even though it may actually be useful.

It's not revolutionary but it seems at least as useful as putting shortcuts like screen brightness and volume on top of the function keys. I see it as an extension of that.

Right now it's too expensive for mainstream. Personally I think in a year we'll see more RAM, a lower price and more USB-C devices.

Switching to non-Apple hardware doesn't mean you have to give up MacOS if that's your thing. You can optionally multi-boot Windows for pro engineering tools and gaming and Linux that powers the internet.

Great video! Apple's greatest computer got utterly smoked and outclassed!

??? Graphics are every bit as good at the SB? The SB also tops out at 16GB RAM?

I compared the two when shopping the new 15" MBP, and this doesn't make any sense. Both laptops are in the same price category, with a hundred bucks or two at given configurations, both top out at 16GB RAM, both have comparable graphics cards. The MBP supports dual 5K monitors at 60Hz, the SB does not. The MBP has a 15" screen and the SB has a 13.5". Both use the same processors. SB has better battery life. SB can detach and be a tablet for 2-3 hours. The MBP has a touch bar. The MBP has TB3 and something like 40 times the potential i/o bandwidth of the SB, but the SB has USB-A, mDP and and SD card slot. The MBP has macOS and the ability to run Windows and Linux. The SB requires giving up macOS.

Don't really see how the SB is any more "pro" than the MBP, except for the battery life? And if you are really doing things that NEED 32GB of RAM, you're probably not doing them for any real amount of time on the go, meaning battery life isn't really that important to a 32GB of RAM workflow I would imagine???Don't care how big the battery is, it won't last long doing that kind of stuff not plugged into the wall! Seems a bit weird to say that since the MBP didn't give you exactly what you had hoped for you decide to buy something that also doesn't give you what you want?

But hey, you did get 101 likes out of it, and counting...

Lol! Not a chance in hell would I switch from my 2016 MacBook Pro 15"! What works with Surface? Windows Phone? Windows Tablet? Windows Watch? WindowsTV? Oh wait...

It is nice - but the internal (laptop) hardware is 2-3 years old already. The screen is the main selling point of course and it's great value compared to a wacom cintiq even. I suppose being a MS product they can keep in charge of the drivers etc so it doesn't update and screw your machine up which for me is 90% of the problem with windows.

PCs can read HFS+ https://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/
3rd party products like that always scare me on something like file integrity. Your issue with this is the same as the iMac. Outdated and not updatable. To me the machines are plenty fast. Being able to retouch on the screen is so much more important and 100x better than wacoms.

Haha, ok Microsoft, sure. I love what you guys are doing, but let's be real. You don't even offer a quad-core chip in your Surface Book and you're charging about as much as Apple is to boot. No USB-C or TB3 at all is the icing on the backwards-looking cake.

If you're a pro who really needs a digitizer then sure go with MS, but outside of that I don't see any compelling reason to go with a Surface Book.

Didn't we use to say that once you go Mac you never go back?
Yes! That's right! Or as they're saying in South Park, "I member!"... :D
But yeh, that was in the Steve Jobs era. I switched to MacBook and loved it! I'd never considered using any other product since. Never wanted to nor intended to go back. But none of us foresaw the demise of Apple. We all expected Tim Cook to continue the greatness of Apple.
It is literally Tim Cook turning out the lights (the logo on MB's) on Apple.

We can only hope that Tim quickly learns from his mistakes, as Steve once had to, and bring Apple back up to standard.

I still use my mid 2012 13" MBA. Great product! Never had any issues with it at all.

I just bought a refurbished 2015 11" MBA for travel. I looked at all the options out there and decided I wanted to stick with Mac. It may be out of date and more expensive but hey, its a product that works well for me. Plus it has magsafe 2 and USB 3. :D I know USB-C is the way of the future but I'm not ready to go there just yet.

Totally agree.

... and they're right. My next laptop probably will be a Surface Book 2. I'm hanging on to my late 2011 MBP but then I'm out of Tim Cook's neglected walled garden.

Do you want new watch band to go with that?

iPhone works as well with Windows since iTunes is there, same with iWatch or android watches and to be honest Chromecast ultra is quite nice. You know, 4k support and all...
