USB-C is NOT the 'courageous' futuristic move you might think. It's a way to force people to buy cloud storage and dongles that boost profits, as other product sales fall. That's all.
....Care to explain how a USB connection forces users into cloud storage instead of a hard drive????

LOL at everyone who thinks that this is real. This is pure marketing.
Folks who invest in Mac do so because of macOS and the hardware.
I sometimes think there are more Android and Windows folks who lurk and post than there are bonafide Apple users.

I am impressed with the new MBP and I love the MacBook 12". I just think they are overpriced. The tech media is always "disappointed" in Apple. Apple could release a product that solves world hunger and some tech writer would crap on the news.
Microsoft is just fueling the notion that was started by the same old sources who have been bashing Apple forever.

You're probably too young to have seen them but for years Apple produced Mac vs PC commercials doing exactly what you're bashing Microsoft for.

That's true.

And back when Apple was making the "Mac vs PCs" ads... they were behind.

Still behind, actually, with only 7% market share. Apple was, and still is, the underdog.

So if we apply the same logic here... then Microsoft is behind Apple.

But doesn't is seem weird for Microsoft to single-out the company with 7% market share?

Another unhappy Mac fan here. The current offering of Apple products is such a mess: buy the new iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro and you cannot connect them! And the headphones that came with your 800+ dollar phone don't plug into your 3000+ dollar laptop. I just can't believe this. Furthermore, I don't see a way out of this. They didn't add a lightning port to the Mac, so will they switch to USB-C on the iPhone? Can't see that happening either. How could they mess this up so badly? Oooh wait, I'll use my non-existing Q-tip AirPods.

8 years ago, Steve Jobs proudly introduced the Macbook Air with 10 hours of battery life. Finally you could use a Macbook all day long without worrying about the charging cable. And now, we're back to 3-4 hours of battery life? This is all too crazy.

And in the mean time, they're ignoring the iMac, Mac Mini and Mac Pro after canceling their beautiful displays and easy-to-use airports. Clearly they're moving away from Mac and abandoning their pro line, but they don't have the balls to say so. They should be upfront about this so we can accept Apple is now about exclusive music deals and watch bands.

Time to move on.

Not when you consider two things:
1. Apple is not behind in brand and product perception.
2. Attacking any other OEM would mean attacking a windows partner.

The Surface is nice hardware. So is the MacBook Pro. Biggest differentiator for me will always be the OS. Windows 10 is way better than anything in the past, but even though I use it every day I just can't work through the sea of minor functional design decisions that just annoy me to no end.

1. But Apple is behind in market share... which everyone knows is the most important thing :)
2. Why does Microsoft need to attack anyone? Can't they just say "Our stuff is good" ?

Take note Apple. It is a nice machine but for the money, it's lacking in legacy connectivity, graphics power and main memory. Also battery life sacrificed for thinness.

For a Pro laptop, thinness is not the first consideration. 32 or 64GB could have been available with a larger battery.

Where can you buy a Surface Book with 32GB/64GB of RAM?

I am not a fan of the new MacBook Pro but isn't the Performance Surface as expensive if not more. A 15 inch MacBook Pro with 2.7GHz, 16GB, 1TB and dGPU of 4GB will cost 3300 and the same specs for a 13 inch surface is also $3300. Not sure how it is less expensive. Am I missing something?

People love to hate on Apple. That's what you're missing.

LOL so true!
I have enjoyed the new macbook. The only thing that has managed to crash it is the Android Studio LOL. But its nice that the fingerprint reader can actually depress like the old power buttons to force a reset. That was nicely thought out.

From the article:
More people are switching from Macs to Surface than ever before. Our trade-in program for MacBooks was our best ever, and the combination of excitement for the innovation of Surface coupled with the disappointment of the new MacBook Pro – especially among professionals – is leading more and more people to make the switch to Surface, like this. It seems like a new review recommending Surface over MacBook comes out daily. This makes our team so proud, because it means we’re doing good work.

It could mean that only one more person has taken advantage of this offer than before. It doesn't necessarily mean that people are lining up to switch.

Yeh I'm extremely disappointed to the point of leaving the Apple ecosystem but I'd never buy a Windows machine, been looking at the various Linux OS for development opportunities and the Razer laptops.
From a sheer hardware standpoint, some of those Razer machines make me drool. I mean, they're way more extreme than anything I'd ever need, but still. They're sweet.

Apple always thinks out their UX better than any one else. They just go that extra mile.

the Studio looks like an imac killer.

I suggest you read a few reviews of the Surface Studio before you say stuff like this. The Surface Studio is aimed at a very specific market. The iMac is a general purpose all in one. They may look similar but that is all. No way is anyone dropping $3k plus on a Surface Studio to browse the web and do email.

I'll keep my 2012 rMBP on life support until the very last moment. It still runs like it did back in 2012, so I'm keeping this until it dies. With 8GM RAM, SSD, and ACTUAL PORTS.... Apple doesn't make anything comparable now. I've never had a computer outside of Apple Car. With this one, I'll keep it for years more if I can, until it can't run what I need it to. Then I'm probably NOT getting another Mac.

Apple has left me, I never left them.

What is this quasi-poetic nonsense?

And although your 2012 MacBook Pro is still running well, your a complete fool if you think the 2016 tb MBP doesn't outclass it by a wide margin.

Not all professionals need high power.
An accountant or an attorney can absolutely be happy with the black shinny new 15 inch MBP RX pro 460.
100% of cost is tax deductible.

I will never go back to windows. Prices for apple or Microsoft are insane, especially here in Canada. So I'm sticking with my current MBp.

I went with the year-old model instead of the new one, because the 2016 MBPs are overpriced and because they lack necessary ports. I didn't want to carry dongles for USB and for an SD card reader in addition to the network and video dongles. (new hot item on the Apple Store: the dongle utility belt!). I'd have been thrilled with the old form factor and just a CPU and graphics bump, but I'll accept the slower performance in exchange for not losing the other capabilities.

Given that this machine will last me about 3 years, Apple has until 2020 to right its ship. The laptop market will likely continue to decline anyway, and if they run away from it like they have the monitor and router markets, then I'll likely go to another OS ecosystem.

You'll be sorry for listening to these nerds about getting a year old laptop in an act of defiance.

High five rebel!

Neo-switchers deserve what they get. Anyone who thinks MS offers long-term solutions for productivity-minded creatives is deluding themselves. Windows is still ... Windows.

This. Even if the latest MBP is not what people were hoping for, do people suddenly believe shiny, new computers from Microsoft makes Windows good?

I have Windows 10 on two machines – VirtualBox and a ThinkPad. Yes, it's nice. And yes, it's still Windows. Still wacky driver issues, profile corruptions, registry ****-ups, and malware from simply clicking the wrong link, despite the anti-malware of your choice running behind-the-scenes. I'm still doing endless work on people W10 boxes to clean them up and I'm still thankful the problems are as present as ever (makes for some nice extra cash during the holidays).

It's true that I wouldn't buy this round of the MBP, but the next one at the very least, after the tweaks they make from feedback. I'll buy a Windows box never. The ThinkPad was free, so :p

In what way? USC and University of Wisconsin are the two schools I was visiting.
I gather that from the state under your avatar. But I also notice the same thing in the bunch of coffee shops that I had to hang out the past few weeks that users were mostly Mac as well.

But all this is anecdotal evidence.

I was too was disappointed with the new MacBook Pros until I tried them out and then looked at my current late 2013 MacBook Pro - it is still a highly functioning device even though the battery life has gone done. I'm sure just as much engineering has gone into the new models to make it a lasting product. I've seen too many 3 year old laptops that start falling apart or require advanced technical support to function.

While I support my own Mac as an end-user.

My next computer will be a MacBook Pro for sure. I spend too much time on my computer for an only bearable experience which describes most Windows users.

This argument has good points on both sides.

What I don't understand, why can't there be both USBc and USBa on the same machine to let people gradually adopt the standard. Is this a hardware limitation?

Also, put an SD card slot on the MBP too, it is a shame that Apple released a so-called "Pro" laptop without a SD card.
