So the people who were upset that the new Macbook Pro can't have 32GB or RAM and doesn't have Mag-Safe anymore...

...are supposed to be happy with a Surface Pro or Surface Book which don't have those things either? :)

Nah, it's about expectations. If you have poured so much money to amazing ecosystem, design and all that jazz, you expect it to surprise you and match the hype that "our best iphone, macbook etc." is launched. If that bubble pops, you find yourself in **** like this.

Apple used to cater "professionals" since their price point was not consumer friendly compared to crappy windows environment but then people got more money and having Apple products was cool. Now all semi-professionals and professionals are angry but pro-bloggers and pro-instagrammers at Starbucks are happier.

Unfortunately their disappointment with the Surface Pro 4 will send them right back next year. I own an SP4 as a secondary machine and the hardware is great - the keyboard/trackpad are one of the best I have used on such a small laptop/tablet. The problem is the battery life is wildly unpredictable and I have had so many issues with just freezing, losing inputs and randomly restarting for updates that I don't feel like I can rely on the thing. The other problem, it really isn't great as a tablet, at least not compared to an iPad.

I have to agree with you, I picked up an SP4 (i5) and the hardware isn't bad, but its not great as a laptop and its certainly not great as a tablet, I only bought it was Microsoft are selling them cheap this month (did they forget to mention that? LOL), I paid £742 for SP4 (i5), Typecover and pen.

Battery life is a lottery, WiFi speeds are just weird, (theres a registry value that can make a difference).

Closing windows using the task switcher just tends to maximise the app. And then there's the lack of apps.

I actually find myself preferring the iPad Pro 12.9, its certainly faster and the multi-tasking I actually find myself using on it.

I can see that.
However, I went back to Best Buy to give a try to both the Surface(s) and the new MBP... both were serious disappointments. MS is picking up steam, you can see that they're actively working at changing their own products and being innovative, but the Surface didn't really convince me. The MBP... meh.
If I had to chose, I would chose the Surface.

It's all propaganda and marketing that MS is spewing as they see this as an opportune time to do so. Go look at the Verge review of the Surface Studio and you will see that their products still fall well short and they are playing catch up to Apple.

Having said that, Apple needs to get it together and start refreshing the products frequently and stop providing opportunities for competitors.

Apple should not use soldered parts like RAM and SSD but upgradable instead. The former is programmed obsolescence and a great aggression agains planet Earth.

While the Surface Book cannot support more than 16GB of RAM, the power adapter does magnetically attach and detach.

Hmm well during the Black Friday sales the Surface Pro 4 was offered at some serious discounts.
But I played with the new MacBook Pro 15" the other day and it's one nice machine. They have integrated the Touch Bar very well no matter how useless it is.

Microsoft has announced November was its best month ever for consumer Surface sales. In a blog post, the company said more people are switching from Macs to Surface devices than ever before following the "disappointment" of the new MacBook Pro, particularly among professional users.

Shortly after the new MacBook Pro launched, Microsoft launched a promotion offering MacBook Pro and MacBook Air owners up to $650 credit towards a new Surface Book or Surface Pro 4. Microsoft also unveiled the Surface Studio in October, and the all-in-one desktop has been met with positive reviews.

Microsoft's Surface Book starts at $1,499, the same price as Apple's new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a standard row of function keys. Touch Bar-equipped models start at $1,799 for 13-inch models and $2,399 for 15-inch models.

Even if someone never uses the TouchBar... having TouchID is one nice bonus!

Well, that's a bold statement.

Not that they're wrong.
[shrug] That seems to be the MO of many companies, and not just tech... How many times have Pepsi and Coca Cola bragged about having more buyers and consumers? Apple has made such a statements when they finally came out with 4.7" and 5.5" screen iPhones.

From a sheer hardware standpoint, some of those Razer machines make me drool. I mean, they're way more extreme than anything I'd ever need, but still. They're sweet.

I wanted to get a Razer machine too. Specs are awesome on paper. The machines are beautiful. But those have tons of QA issues and their support is terrible.

Razer forums, Reddit, etc, are plagued with people that complain about this.

I bought a Surface Book and returned it after 3 days.

Dell XPS are also full of QA problems such as coil whine.

At this point I consider myself lucky I can wait another year with my 2014 MBP. If not I would probably buy a 2015 MBP. Those are still expensive for what you get, but are solid machines.

Yeah, although I did try to touch the screen expecting an action at one point hahahahahaha.. been using iOS devices too much!
Meh I would still get a Mac, I mean it's Windows... although the Studio is awesome.
But the new MB Pro is a sexy well made machine. I like it, shamefully..

Fake BS.

If sales were good, Microsoft would have released sales numbers.

A windows computer with an attacking power adaptor? And I thought an exploding Samsung was bad enough.

I'll stick with my safe Apple products.

And those that complain about the new MBP being too thin and as a result having a not-great battery life will consider a Surface Pro instead (that doesn't have a longer battery life and is also pretty thin as far as laptops go)?

What a crap !!!
I used Windows 10 and all the ****** versions before.
It was AND IS a disaster ! Productivity at zero level. Workflows that are an insult !
"Updates" for hours... Many apps that cannot adjust to high-res screens. Viruses, malware, etc....
Never ending driver issues with a bunch of hardware.
It is NOT about hardware but the integrated system as a whole.

Forget about Windows.
macOS is great, fast, stable, easy.... and MBP also. I have an 2016 PRO and it is awesome in all of its details.
It is the only reliable companion for people that rely on a workstation to earn their money without issues.

APPLE: keep the good work going !!

Neo-switchers deserve what they get. Anyone who thinks MS offers long-term solutions for productivity-minded creatives is deluding themselves. Windows is still ... Windows.
I'm pretty sure Apple is counting on folks in this camp as part of what they're doing now... they're not willing to switch away from OSX*, so for all intents and purposes, they have a monopoly on those users*. Apple can make laptops with just enough incremental updates to still say they've done something, but not really give users what they'd really like.

No, one of the best ways to deal with this is to vote with your wallet. Apple, and any other corporation still feels pain when they don't make the money they're aiming for.

* If Linux can work, then more power and choices to you!

I think this has more to do with the price than anything else.
At the end of the day, price is still a factor. Yes, there are cases where you should pay more for a quality product, but that's a fine line that needs to be walked by both the consumer and the companies

This dongle ******** is getting out of hand. Just buy a proper dock and you don't need anything else. YouTubers are just fishing for views and playing stupid by connecting 20 dongles to each other to make a clickbait thumbnail for their video. 1 dock station can give you SD reader, USB-C + USB-A, Ehternet, HDMI and more. There are pretty much no laptops with VGA anymore so I don't understand your point.
I was specifically replying to the comment that in a couple of years the Dongle problem will disappear. It won't (for me at least) because I need to be able to connect to VGA projectors, and have needed to buy a different adapter for every MBPro refresh.
This one is no different, but now a number of other useful ports have disappeared too.

Question: is there a portable travel dock that includes USB-A ports, SD card reader, Ethernet and VGA? HDMI would also be great for those rare occasions when there IS an HDMI input...

Meanwhile I'll throw away the expensive miniDP>VGA and thunderbolt>Ethernet adapters I bought for previous MBPros...

My foot. There may be few drifters but the claim from Microsoft is pure PR, propaganda. We may or may not agree that our virtual expectations for the 2016 Macbook Pro was not met but Macbook Pro is still great laptop and way better than windows surface.
