With each new product release I grow more disappointed with Apple. If I didn't hate Windows and MS so much I might have already switched back. I never expected anything from MS so it's hard to be disappointed. With Apple I've got to say it hurts a little. They are slowly destroying everything that was unique and cool about it. Once they let the bean counters get in control it was just a matter of time. They are fast becoming what they once were an icon in the fight against. Money kills everything.

More people are switching from Macs to Surface than ever before.

So, two people now, instead of one? Microsoft doesn't get it. People that enjoy the Mac OS aren't going to switch to a PC, no matter what gimmicks Microsoft throws at them.

Go into a any medium/large corporate setting. The surfaces are everywhere. They sell very well to corporate customers and the users love them.

I have been keeping my eyes open for a real MacBook Pro, the late 2011 17" version, which would suit my needs until Apple maybe decides to make another Pro version of a laptop.

Why did they choose Surface Pro over Surface Book? Personally, I prefer the SP form factor with kickstand but also see the benefits of SB's larger display and longer battery life.

When not used as a tablet, the book is a laptop, which is A pretty miserable form factor to do design work on. The winning combination is a lightweight tablet for hand sketching, light CAD work, client meetings & collaboration, and then for heavy CAD & modeling work, a desktop. When the Surface Pro is undocked, it covers all the bases of a pro tablet, and when it's docked, it's essentially bypassed, pushed out of the way, sending up to the big displays, w/ full keyboards and Wacoms, and large format periphs.

While Apple produces or has proven capable of producing each of those various features, they maddeningly refuse to put them together in a way that catches up with creative professionals moving into this century. Good thing they're not a computer company I guess.

So... Surfaces are "everywhere"

Yet they only sold something like 5 million units all of last year?

How does that work? :)

This is from an article published in July of this year... just 5 months ago:

"Despite a rosy forecast by IDC claiming that Surface would soon outpace Apple's iPad sales, it appears that Surface is instead stuck in a cycle of quarterly sales that rarely punches past 1 million units."

Hell... maybe it's not even 5 million units a year.

Granted these are analysts' estimates... but it's not looking so good.

There are hundreds of millions of Windows PCs in the corporate setting. Maybe even 400 or 500 million.

So I'm a little confused at how Surfaces... with their small number of sales... can be "everywhere" in the corporate setting. :D

Inept moron, he's a billionaire business man, you? Oh right.... posting here.
To be fair, the inept moron i.mac was talking about is probably busy getting trolled on Twitter, so calling him out for posting on MacRumors is ironic:)

Funny thing. 3 years ago that comment would have gotten tons of likes. But now many of us former mac addicts have realized that maybe Apple is what microsoft once was. So bashing microsoft just doesnt play so well here anymore

Apple trying to shove their way of doing things down our throats, (usb-c, no headphone jack, crappy icloud, app store, no upgradability, no options for computers except for thin, etc etc ect)
Apple feels MORE like big brother than we ever thought possible

There is simply no comparison between the spying of MS/W10 of your personal data, keystrokes, files, and whatever hardware choices Apple makes. Choosing to go all usb-c is in no way a "big brother" move. Annoying prick move perhaps depending on your look at the ports. Big brother, no.
As for "likes" in the forum. Care to guess how much I care for them?

So Microsoft says more people are switching from Macs than ever and Apple says they're selling the most ever. Okay. Why do I feel like both of them are being dishonest?

Maybe because of the same reason I do, both haven't released official numbers.

That being said I think the Surface Pro 4 and Surfacebook 2 have a tremendous amount of potential. But man the price is tempting at the moment. Sadly the surface line has soldered on batteries.

I have the new MBP and really like it.

Microsoft products are going to always be hobbled by Windows. Some people like it. That's fine. I don't. (And I have a Win10 setup so it's not like I don't know what I'm missing.) Hardware is nice and all, macOS is the main reason I use Macs, period.

All the peeps complaining about a new universal port that does pretty much everything and disconnects us from proprietary power cords, display connectors, headphone cords, etc.

Back-In-My-Day.jpg

Pretty sure USB-C is what nearly EVERYONE has been asking for for years. The one port and cord that does everything. Get over yourselves and enjoy the transition to when you can actually be the meme above. :lmao:
[doublepost=1481604917][/doublepost]Also, evertime I build a PC based laptop to similar specs as any Apple product I buy, it's about the same $. And the fact that iOS and OSx perform much more efficiently, you're actually getting a better bang for the $.

Dump your Apple eco-system and go buy a Windows machine. Enjoy that BWD in 12-18 mos. We'll be here waiting.

My 2012 Retina MBP has been acting up on me (not sure if it's the computer or Sierra), so I ended up getting the Surface Pro 3 i7 processor 8gb ram for half off on Amazon, and loving it so far. Cheaper than the cheapest Macbook. First PC that will be my primary machine since I got my first Macbook in 2008 (the old white Macbook)

Sounds like desperation from Microsoft to me.

Anytime you need to compare yourself to the competition you are already behind.

Isn't that what Apple did with "hi i'm a Mac" commercials. Most Apple fans felt that was brilliant and it was. It lead me to try a Mac. I do own both the late 2015 Macbook Pro and the Surface Pro 4. While I am typing this on my Mac my main system for editing photos now is the Surface. It's an incredible experience editing right on the screen.

The Surface Book owns and the Studio looks like an imac killer. Although I use my imac on a monitor arm, so the Studio wouldnt work for me...

If Microsoft releases a sub $2000 model of the Studio, then I can see it as an imac killer, especially if Apple doesn't release new imac models by then. The current Studios are more geared toward artists and designers than general consumers, especially at their price range.

with tons of designers / employees are they trying to make the laptop a supermodel (it's thinness)? It doesn't need to be skinner than the previous version this is not innovative if you can't use it for longer than the previous model... true innovation would be able to make the battery longer than its previous version and still have the parts (ports) that pros use to do their work... When you ignore the people who want to use this device the way they've done and make it for the people who don't truly use a macbook/pro for work... then you've failed. The track thing is pretty lame since you can already do the things that its offering with a lot more control than in the tiny space above, and save your battery instead of lighting up a second screen (trak / laptop screen). I see why Microsoft is taking advantage of Apple's huge oversight in its design for pure aesthetic versus actual function, it's a shame.

Apple should reintroduce the 17" model for Pro users with more ports and more power. I still use my 6+ year-old 17-incher (after swapping out my hard drive for an SSD & maxing out the Ram.)

They keep pushing for portability and being razor thin when I want a powerful desktop replacement. Battery life doesn't really matter to me since I almost always plug in where I'm at.

Hear, hear! I'd also love the 17" with a true 4k screen, the same pre-rMBP keyboard (with the excellent long-travel keys) and, if possible, swappable HDD / DVD bay / RAM.

Except Apple didn't say most ever. Apple has said most online preorders of a MacBook Pro.

Whenever someone does not like what they are hearing they demand statistics and numbers as "proof". I'm sure you could find out for yourself pretty easily.
Apparently, according to multiple sources, with WSJ, Fortune, NYT all running the story in addition to all the tech blogs, the new MBP outsold the Surface Book plus all other main new models released from other PC manufacturers within the entire last year combined, and by a large margin. This in its first 5 days of release. The only other device to have sold more than the new MBP was the 2016 second revision of the rMB, which also had a 6 month head start...

As i keep saying, the only reason I'm still in the Apple-sphere, the software is fundamentally more secure. The hardware is getting more lackluster year over year. The day I have to purchase third party security software on the Mac, is the day I say goodbye to Apple forever... and that makes me very sad. I've stuck with this company through the dark times and loved the comeback after the 90s, but the end is near.

Tim you are a good manager, but we need a visionary to push the envelope.

Well if people moving into MS will make Apple wake up and deliver on the Mac, I can say this is a good thing.
Or end up dying like Nokia. I notice a pattern for tech companies. The time when Apple thrived was like 4 years ago when they still had a strong line up of products (Iphone 6, Macbook Pro, imac, Ipod, etc.). Similar to Microsoft with their Win XP or Nokia with their Series 6 phones. Unless Apple could find someone who has the vision, passion and real courage for innovation, they will follow Nokia's footstep.
