I've been saying this for a while now about Apple. It's time for Tim to go and time to revamp Apple.
If this guy keeps bringing billions to the table Apple doesn't care about innovation anymore. I'm one of those happiest man if he leaves the company. People just keeps on buying them and we're talking about majority of the people. Maybe because of the name brand now and that's the reason they're bringing people in fashion industry.

I went with the year-old model instead of the new one, because the 2016 MBPs are overpriced and because they lack necessary ports. I didn't want to carry dongles for USB and for an SD card reader in addition to the network and video dongles. (new hot item on the Apple Store: the dongle utility belt!). I'd have been thrilled with the old form factor and just a CPU and graphics bump, but I'll accept the slower performance in exchange for not losing the other capabilities.

Given that this machine will last me about 3 years, Apple has until 2020 to right its ship. The laptop market will likely continue to decline anyway, and if they run away from it like they have the monitor and router markets, then I'll likely go to another OS ecosystem.
By 2020 USB-C will be ubiquitous. Apple isn't looking back. There will never be another MacBook Pro with USB-A or Thunderbolt 2 ports.

Bit petty really, Microsoft have some great products out at the moment, smacks of a lack of confidence that they need to refer to the competition. I've never liked this when either Apple or Microsoft indulge in this sort of nonsense. Does it really boost sales alienating prospective customers?
Don't you get it it's only petty when Apple does it. When others do it means Tim Cook is a loser and needs to be fired.

I think this has more to do with the price than anything else.

I don't even have a MBP and I didn't watch the unveiling and even I know it goes beyond price. It's the whole "no ports (more dongles)", "no battery", "emoji bar" thing. And then yeah, there's the price too...

Microsoft, on the other hand, is actually sort of, kind of, if you squint your eyes, trying to do something innovative*

Quite frankly, I buy iPhones and we have iPads. I have an AirPort Extreme (for now) but that's all that Apple offers that excites me. For a laptop or desktop style computer, I'd go MSFT in a second.

*relatively speaking

Unfortunately their disappointment with the Surface Pro 4 will send them right back next year. I own an SP4 as a secondary machine and the hardware is great - the keyboard/trackpad are one of the best I have used on such a small laptop/tablet. The problem is the battery life is wildly unpredictable and I have had so many issues with just freezing, losing inputs and randomly restarting for updates that I don't feel like I can rely on the thing. The other problem, it really isn't great as a tablet, at least not compared to an iPad.

^This. I owed both a SP4 and iPad Pro and feel the same way. While there were a few things I did like about the SP4 over the iPad, at the end of the day the iPad is still a better product (for me).

What they won't tell you is how many people will realize what they're missing when they use a Windows machine everyday! No but for real Windows 10 is pretty manageable, the surface is cheaply made with a not so good stylus and trackpad. With a better external keyboard and mouse it is pretty nice.

I have a 3 year old MBP and didn't buy a new one because my existing one works just fine. There is not enough new stuff in the MBP right now to make me run out and buy one. I will buy one when mine starts to have problems. My biggest complaint is the USB-C but not because I want legacy connectivity but because of iPhone and iPads. Apple should of just pulled the band-aid off quickly and made the iPhone 7 USB-C and the next iPads, this way I can have one connection type for my Apple devices, instead I have to buy cables and adapters to even connect my new iPhone 7, just silly. I don't really care about touch screen at all. Just glad I didn't jump yet because of the issues with video and battery life I am reading about.

Microsoft has announced November was its best month ever for consumer Surface sales. In a blog post, the company said more people are switching from Macs to Surface devices than ever before following the "disappointment" of the new MacBook Pro, particularly among professional users.

Shortly after the new MacBook Pro launched, Microsoft launched a promotion offering MacBook Pro and MacBook Air owners up to $650 credit towards a new Surface Book or Surface Pro 4. Microsoft also unveiled the Surface Studio in October, and the all-in-one desktop has been met with positive reviews.

Microsoft's Surface Book starts at $1,499, the same price as Apple's new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a standard row of function keys. Touch Bar-equipped models start at $1,799 for 13-inch models and $2,399 for 15-inch models.

How sad and disappointing - even more so when you consider truly how basic and reasonable the wish lists are for Apple products.

It's all about counting beans anymore.. never mind the user experience or value.

That is exactly true - and what I find so frustrating.
- The solutions, for the most part, are so, so simple.

More people are switching from Macs to Surface than ever before.

So, two people now, instead of one? Microsoft doesn't get it. People that enjoy the Mac OS aren't going to switch to a PC, no matter what gimmicks Microsoft throws at them.

Well if people moving into MS will make Apple wake up and deliver on the Mac, I can say this is a good thing.
I’m one of them. Whilst I still use my Mac Pro for day to day work and play, I bought a family member a Surface P4. Lovely thing. The touch interface isn’t half as bad as people make out.
Apple should have done this with the iPad. I suspect they didn't because we’d really then find out how far the Ax series processors are lagging behind when running a full OS.

Based on the prices and the amount of products with the Surface Studio. Microsoft is making its mark for sure.. Giving Apple a run for their money...

And that is saying something.

coming from microsoft, i definitely believe it..
these people at microsoft are the worst in PR. When all the Note 7's exploded, you didnt hear apple say "oh iphone sales are going up because of samsung." Why cant they just once shut up about the competitors and just talk about their products? pathetic

Ha. Ha. Looks like Microsoft and Apple go to the same Delusional School of Fake New (formerly known and Public Relations and Marketing). The new MBP is disappointing in many regards (I broke down and bought anyway) but of all the things it is missing that turned me off I was turned on by the fact its missing Windows 10 of any flavor.

I just can't see hordes of MacBook Pro users flocking to Surface because of THIS update. 5% maybe -- but that is 5% of 4%, hardly going to move the needle the way MS suggests it has. But hey, it's 2016, soon 2017. If it's on the Internet it must be true.

The Surface Book and MBP are priced similarly when configured the same.
Like most people, I am just tired of the lackluster computers Apple has been releasing the past few years.

I have an 2010 iMac 27" that I wanted to upgrade a few years ago. But Apple's offerings at the time were not much of an upgrade for the price. I built a hackintosh instead. Two years later, It's specs are at least as good as current iMac models.
