So many edgy people here hating on Windows. Is there an "edgy" school I can go to learn that? Or is it automatically embedded into idiots?

Sometimes I'm just curious what is so bad about Windows 10 as it works fine for me. I can do 100% of everything I want on it. I have seen a couple examples of issues some have.

But, will it wake from sleep in under 60 sec? (In other words, why do so many 'softies always walk around campus with their laptops open?)

I came here with the intention of rolling my eyes, but... wow. I am highly impressed. I'm happy to see that Microsoft got their groove back. Competition like this is a much needed fire under Apple's booty.

Windows 10 is worst than you think.

Well, if you understood how to use the proper tense of a word we'd take this comment more seriously.

Not saying much, a freaking iPhone is more powerful than 13 inch models which are still limited to dual core processors.

And all the people that are complaining about Windows, this is not 2010, Windows 10 is excellent and is better than MacOS in some respects but worse in others. Both OS's are very good these days which is only good for the consumer.

I have to agree here. We're an entirely Apple house, but run Windows for work. Windows 10 has actually outperformed itself in terms of my expectations. This new Surface 2 is compelling enough to consider whether I'd upgrade my 2015 rMBP 15" for this.

Microsoft should have stopped "innovating" with Windows 7. Windows 10 has just been an attempt to repair 8. Apple has made the4 same innovation mistake with OS X 10.7. Then tried to repair it with 10.8.4. Then made it worse with 10.10 and has been trying to fix that rather than going back to 10.6 and just updating the security issues.

Microsoft are the worst kind of liars. They do it for money.
hahah and you think Apple is any different o_O

I like macOS, a lot, I really do...But the 1050 in the 13 inch Surface Book is significantly better than the best Radeon Pro 560 Macbook Pro I could pay Apple money for, and the 1060 absolutely brutalizes it. I really wish they offered Nvidia choices for those of us not in FCPX all day.

Apple really talks about specs in areas where they lead. In mobile, nobody touches their performance.

In most other aspects, they compare to their own products. "Fastest iMac ever." "20% brighter," etc, etc.

That's a perfectly valid reason. I was indifferent to windows before. Not that I'm older, I hate it (despite win 10 really getting better). I chalk it up to being old, cranky, and working much longer hours than before. When I come home I do not have the time to solve some BS issue with my computer.

I just wish Apple had a tablet capable Mac. I wonder if we will see it when the MacBook Pro finally moves to the same chip family as the iPhone and iPad. Drawing on the iPad is best in class, I truly love it. I'd love to see what Apple could bring to the table on convertible tablet that runs Mac OS.

Well using a Note 8 now, I don't see this huge performance improvement. Sure they can win a CPU benchmark, but I'm not seeing it in day to day performance.

I don't believe drawing on the iPad is any better than drawing on other platforms. If you talk to artist, plenty of them use Windows tablets... For my purposes, I want to run full applications. I don't draw. I use it to take notes. Its an incredible experience.

Nothing, huh? You mean like four ports of flexible Thunderbolt 3 offering prodigious I/O bandwidth and USB-C connectivity on Apple's latest MBPs? Or DCI-P3 wide gamut displays? Or the wide gamut 5K display on my 4.0 GHz i7 iMac, with super fast SSD? Or the iMac Pro with loads of processing power and I/O bandwidth that will be released next month?

Well you better empty your bank account and buy it quick, otherwise it will be another 4 years before they update it again. If you are going to argue that Apple is doing their Mac line justice, then I'm not sure what to say. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when and how they update their line anymore. For software, they do what is necessary to support parity with iOS.

I had no idea they had that product. I don't pay any attention to their junque....

Well that was intelligent. You no nothing about it but you know its "junque". Keep your head in the MacGodess fairy dust. Apple has you right where they want you! Clueless with your wallet open!

Microsoft open sourced .NET..
which allowed a really sweet piece of software to come over to Mac which has benefitted me.

idk, i've never spent any money on Microsoft products/software.. (or even used any really).. regardless of that, they allowed me a come up.. so that was sweet.

[edit] i might of bought a MS mouse a long time ago.. did they make mice at some point?

But if you have a business requirement to be able to run both Windows and MacOS, PCs aren’t really an option, are they?

Of course PCs are an option. Some staff will opt for PCs, others Macs. Also depends on people’s particular job... use the platform that is most appropriate.

Some positions may require Both platforms...

But you still have to run a dogs breakfast of an OS on it.
You can run a Hackintosh and get all the I/O working with the MultiBeast utility. If this thing really is 2x powerful I might consider it as a iOS, VR and machine learning all-in-one powerhouse because current MacBook specs especially GPU are wimpy. I'd like to know how the GPU compares.

Does anyone have Sierra running on a faster than Mac PC that can give some feedback?

I find it amusing how someone could treat Windows as such as POS OS, when it's powering so many businesses (particularly financial services) responsible for trillions upon trillions.

The OS isn't that complicated, or rubbish - and let's not pretend macOS is some kind of perfect OS either.

Agreed, but keep in mind most of the Apple people here can't come up with an original thought and just keep regurgitating that Windows OS sucks (based on some 10-15 year old version of the OS), but in the mean time, Windows PC companies keep leap-frogging Apple on hardware AND software.

In the same way, though, they keep lauding macOS, like it is still the nice, stable OS it was back in the ML days, somehow forgetting it riddled with bugs as Apple keeps stuffing more and more under the hood.

Probably a decent machine that will be ideal for many people. My personal experiences of these Surface products is that they feel like recycled ice cream cartons compared to anything Apple makes, but everyone has different priorities.

Windows 10 is, in my opinion, a steaming heap of garbage. But again, others may feel differently. Choice is good.
Off topic, RIP John Dunsworth, comic genius:(

It better be seeing as the Radeon Pro 560 is a mid-range Polaris chipset and built against the 1050 or lower. THe RX 580 competes against the 1060. The Vega 56 competes against the 1070/1070Ti and the Vega 64 competes against the 1080/1080Ti.

RX 560

16 compute units1 | Up to 2.6 TFLOPS | 128 bit Memory Bandwidth | 2GB or 4GB GDDR5 | TDP 75W Max

Nvidia 1060 Laptop

Up to 6GB GDDR5 | 192 bit Memory Bandwidth | 1280 CUDA cores | 3.85 TFLOPS | TDP 120W

That's a nice looking computer. Something I could see myself buying if I was going for something that costly.

How will the 15 watt quad core in the 15" Surface Book compare to the 45 watt version in a 15" Macbook Pro?

So you’re saying that 8 core processor is just a marketing gimmick?
No, I'm saying real world performance that I experience... I don't see the iPhone dramatically faster. All the Note 8 vs iPhone 8 videos show that as well. If performance is roughly equivalent then cpu specs don't interest me. I'm more interested in functional differences.

I'm a huge fan of macrumors, I've been a long time reader and I've never jumped into the comments before. Perhaps I should just stay away, but here I am. I can appreciate everyone's gripes with Apple and the new MacBook Pro. I can also appreciate that Microsoft has made some increasingly impressive products that truly rival (and in some ways surpass) Apple. I actually use a 2016 MacBook Pro and a Surface Pro 4 on a daily basis. Both are excellent! And I don't actually have a strong preference between macOS and Windows 10.

What I don't get is why these forums seem so set on criticizing every Apple product, calming that none of this would have happened under jobs, yet ignore the same flaws in the products they threaten to switch to.

For example:

1. RAM: When the new MacBook Pros were released, I saw dozens of complains that they were limited to 16 GB of RAM. People posted exclaiming they could not consider it a "pro" machines with such a limitation. And yet today only a few people mention the 16 GB RAM limit on the new Surface Book 2.

2. Processors: The new Surface Book 2 does indeed have Intel's new processors. But don't we all expect the next spec bump of the MacBook Pro to include the same processors? Apple has NOT always released new laptops every time Intel releases new processors. So once the MacBook Pro gets updated processors the only main processing advantage is the GPU. Which brings me to my next point...

3. GPU: Windows based laptops have almost always offered better GPUs for less money. This is not new. This did happen under Jobs. The only time I remember an Apple laptop offering a significantly better GPU was when the MacBook Pro first came out with the ATI X1600.

4. Price: People were so upset at how much the new MacBook Pros cost when they came out. Posts mentioned how you could spec out a similar Windows PC and get so much more for the money. And I totally agree, the new MacBook Pros are expensive. By that logic however, people should also be outraged at the cost of the Surface Book 2. You could easily find a well built Windows laptop with better specs for a fraction of the cost of the Surface Book 2. I did notice a few people comment on the price, but many don't seem to think it is an issue.

I also love that people think Apple's obsession with thin and light came after Steve Jobs. Does anyone remember the original MacBook Air? Apple has always had the ability to make laptops faster with longer battery life if they just made them a bit thicker. I agree the latest versions perhaps went too far, but its not like its un-Apple.

Now, I'm not actually saying that the MacBook Pro is better than the Surface Book 2, or vice versa. The Surface Book 2 has some really compelling features, and anyone who wants a strong mobile GPU will always look to Windows laptops. As I said, I use both a Surface Pro 4 and a MacBook Pro on a regular basis, and I actually really like both. I just think there is a culture that seems to love to bash Apple's products and look past any of the same flaws from other manufacturers. I just want to see more consistent criticism! :)

People dissing Windows do not know how to use it. It is a fast and stable OS. Just because you prefer MAC does not mean Windows is inferior. I never criticize MAC even though I prefer Windows 10.
