The Wintendo praise in this whole thread is disgusting. I'll tell you this I'll let you all see the 1400 trouble tickets we get on a daily basis just on our Wintendo 10 team, we have techs still battling with updates that fix one thing for a customer then break something else that is critical for the customer. We install a printer on Wintendo 10 one day for a customer, they get an update next day it's gone...then when you try to reinstall it you reboot and get a BSOD with a stupid smiley face, give me a freakin break. I think we use Reset and System Restore on a daily basis. All those gimmicky stupid animations and that "Fluent Design" crap they push, along with redesigning all there main apps/programs to try and compete and give users more options, half the time don't work and you have to use Powershell to try and restore them. And FFS, god forbid they get a rootkit or persistent malware that destroys the entries for the Start Menu, we had a tech working on a customers machine for 19 hrs just to get the Start Menu to re-open, we have to redo entries using Powershell and then repair file and registry permissions using CACLS. So for those of you that say Microsoft is doing this and that and Wintendo is so freakin great....**** you have no idea the POS that Wintendo 10 really is. Try keeping a team of 40-100 techs up-to-date on all the freakin release builds for Wintendo 10, Slow ring, Fast ring, Insider Builds, Fall Creator Update builds...it's nothing but a big frucking cluster fruck. Every week we release a company newsletter just to keep our techs informed of whats working in whats broken in each and every freakin build. We have a room that has a couple of blade servers so we can run Wintendo 10 virtually so we can test things out. IT'S NOTHING BUT TRASH ALL OF IT.

Sounds like user error to me.

Holy Wall of Text!

You may want to add paragraphs, space out the text a bit. Huge blocks of text tend to be more difficult to read :)

I'm sure Apple support get a lot of issues with OSX too... some easy, some more complex issues. Plenty of user error too / people not understanding how things work.

Again, to have such a strong opinion you have to inform yourself better. And never assume things like "being in the IT business longer than someone else". You have no way of knowing and it is quite personal/arrogant and has nothing to do with the subject. You simply stated a wrong fact (in a previous post) which I pointed out. No excuse like "I don't pay any attention to their junque....". You know what you are talking about or not and you are factual correct or not. It is as simple as that.

Okay. I wouldn't own a Surface ANYTHING unless it was given to me, and I kept it as a toy. (I have a Zune. It was a gift. Thankfully it wasn't the turd color. It no longer functions)

I don't see the future in 'super tablets' like some people do, but 'the market' seems to have incredible faith in that idea, so we experience that type of 'innovation'. Windows 11 will be the same warmed over mess that 10 was, and will likely slow down this new wonder.

That is my opinion.

If people can't state their opinions without getting filleted, then what is this site for? Oh, and 'Mac Rumors'. Hint, Macs...

And, faster isn't 'better'. It's just 'faster'. *shrug*
[doublepost=1508421964][/doublepost]
Well that was intelligent. You no nothing about it but you know its "junque". Keep your head in the MacGodess fairy dust. Apple has you right where they want you! Clueless with your wallet open!

I do 'know' English rather well, so there is that...

The last Apple item I bought was a gold 128 iPad Mini. It was on clearance because Apple decided to kill it. My wallet wasn't open all that much. I did recently splurge on the 8+, but I had a 6+ with a dying battery and consider that 'a phone', a necessity.

Apple doesn't 'have' me. I can't afford her... I just know that Windows is 'chatty', and susceptible to all kinds of nastiness flying around the internet, and beyond. I used a Macbook Pro to support clients because it wasn't susceptible to their infections.

I know superior technology when I see it. If that means I don't like Windows, well, that's okay by me.

You do you...

And please stop assuming everyone that doesn't agree with your opinions is a panting Apple sycophant throwing their money away. I saw far more of that by people that loved Dell, and IBM, and, yes, Microsoft.

It's IT error more than user error

as someone in IT his entire life. MOST of the problems encountered by end users in a corporate / ENterprise environment are a combination of users who actually don't know how to use a computer at all trying to do things without knowing, in this case, no OS really helps out.

or IT having installed or implemented something in a terrible fashion and not either following best practices, or "we know what we're doing".

the difference is, in corporate platform, there's an infinate more you can get out of windows than MacOS.

Everyone's subjective opinion on which they prefer from a UX standpoint is fine. But many of the excuses they come up with in justification between all the OS's are purely full of crud.

This is coming from someone who uses Windows (xp,7,8,10,2012,2016), MacOS, Linux, daily.
[doublepost=1508428487][/doublepost]
MacOS of course is not perfect but every business I've worked for have issues with Windows and the security breaches lately have been getting out of hand. I trust MacOS way more than Windows right now.

Here's a friendly tip. Don't trust MacOS either. Don't trust linux. Don't trust windows. You cannot trust the OS natively. keep your patches up to date on all OS's and keep subscribed to feeds that report on hacks/cracks/virus outbreaks. reliance too much on the OS is dangerous. users need some responsibility for this themselves as all platforms have their security vulnerabilities.

That does not mean its any better.

Except for the things windows and windows servers do that MacOS cannot. Especially in enterprise. this is why it's windows and linux and NOT MacOS powering the worlds financial backbone. So, define what you mean "Better".
[doublepost=1508428545][/doublepost]
Now you know the real reason behind the Global Financial Crash.

tinfoil hat much :p

I'm hoping your comment was sarcasm. the 2008 financial crash was not technologically motivated, but was due to lack of regulation on the financial industry and their business practices themselves.

Ill give a bit of credit on that one. We've recently had a windows update break outlook functionality. was a bit of a pain in the but. (attachments to calendar invites could not be double clicked to be opened). Microsoft took a couple weeks to get the patch out and we had to roll back that update.

However, the benefits of security, directory controls, AD integration and desktop management override the odd hiccup we experienced with updates that might have one breaking patch a yea.r

OK, you quoted the wrong post from me so I had no idea what you were talking about. You said you had used SP2 and SP3, and that you didn't need to have any others, but that Microsoft was lying about the Surface line. There is an SP4 and a 2017 SP... 2 more generations, and the SB. Having no experience with any of these you've drawn conclusions about their new product that you've not touched. I have no experience with SP3, but have used SP4 and currently own 2017 SP. The refinement between the last two was big. The current SP is the best computer I've ever owned, and the only one that excited me more than when I got my MacBook Air and Thunderbolt Display years back.

If I came on too strong, sorry. These threads are just a bash fest. Apple and Microsoft both have pros an cons and make good stuff. I feel one is more innovative in areas that are important to me, which is why I've shifted away from Apple. Not everyone has to agree, but bashing things you have not used and claiming the company is lying ... not necessary to discuss.

In my book MS lies about the rosbusteness of the Surface line it’s a matter of fact. It happened with SP2, SP3 for a personal experience. The shot hit the fan in the latest CR report on SP4. As for Surface Book I am just a witness on SB 1 trough other colleagues. I actually thought about buying one last year ... I am glad that I did not.

Wether a user minds it or not it’s subjective. I know of one inspite of the hurdles he describes ... he loves he loves it. In a sense he is much like any other fan oriented mind cas in case an Apple fan.

Now what I have said is I hope they got it pretty robust this time. Because I like the idea of a two in one so much so I bought two. But going from that to think that they hit the nail in such way that replaces a regular robust working laptop as a productivity power house it’s another stretch. That is all.

I have reasons to think like that because today I use a robust laptop powerhouse and I know the peace of mind of reliability and non baby sitting.

I went precisely in the ther direction. I am a software developer.

Cheers.

And it should have been found out before being pushed to users..

Everything breaks but it's up to IT to find it since it's their job :D

I'm typing this from a W10 enterprise box running my orgs GM and it's not had any real problems

I agree. Pushing out the update the day it's released without sample testing was a failure on our IT part.

unfortunately, the people pushing the buttons to push it out (them), weren't the same ones who dealt with the support calls (me)

MacOS does not usually have these problems because MacOS users are not a very diverse bunch. The list of applications starts with e-mail and browser and does not go far from there. You can't compare this to Windows with millions of enterprise applications

Certainly been some interesting stories and opinions in this thread, some a bit taller than others  However, for a bit of fun I thought I would share my rendition

Having owned and used many PC's/Laptops since 1986 my enthusiasm for Apple hardware started with the 2nd gen MBA which I upgraded on each new release for 6 years until finally I had enough of the sub standard screen (IMO) and jumped back to the last Sony Vaio Z release and then back to Apple for the 1st Gen rMB

The secret of my success with my Apple laptops has been I have run Windows exclusively on all of them :D equally my sons have stuck with MacOs and had no issues and the have had MBP's etc before I :)

Use what you like but failure to appreciate alternatives and knock them based on some trivial point for many is just daft

This may have been mentioned already, but I like how they use a 2011 MacBook Pro in their promo image to make their Surface Book look sleek in comparison.

how did you manage to deal with APple's absolutely terrible Windows touchpad drivers? it's always driven me nuts.

I found that TP's are often an inferior input method for many work related activities, great for dailies and fun or a few specific apps but often your making do in where in reality a mouse or pen can be more productive/accurate

Additional although I have tried quite a few times to use MacOs in anger I never got use to the extra native TP finger gestures (3 or 4 fingered) this coupled with up and till a couple of years back I always had a mouse to hand :D

Certainly now where I do more review than actual work I have weaned myself of the mouse to a large extent but there is a good 3rd party driver add-on which improves TP gesture support but still not full Apple

The newer TP that started with the 2015 rMB certainly helped me and if anything now I prefer the SP4/SB touch pads as I like tap to click being light handed and find the rMB (maybe sensitivity is set wrong) a bit lifeless, but that's just personal preference :)

I guess it's a bit like touch screens you do not know what your missing if you do not have or use the option. I certainly ignored it to a large extent on Win8 with my Sony but find it quite useful at times under W10

Well with that definition, you need to add Apple into the "dang liars" category also. It took courage to remove the headphone jack? You are holding it wrong? Need I go on? I think Microsoft, just like any company, is going to present their products in the way they intended them. I don't call that lying. The crap about courage is a whole different level.

Regarding the Surface line. You say its crap. I'm 2 generations later than the one you used, and its an amazing piece of tech that is the best computer I've ever owned. It has real productivity gains that there is not an Apple product that does. Its easy to throw stones at a company trying to try new and different things, when Apple basically keeps re-announcing the same tired design with a spec bump; or "its the thinnest we've ever made". The touch bar is the only new thing Apple has done, beyond skinnying down and removing ports, in a very long time.

The CR report you mentioned was talking about old models. No idea what model they use because they are pretty out of touch. Personally, I would put more credence in the JD Power and Associates report - https://www.macrumors.com/2017/04/06/microsoft-surface-beats-ipad-j-d-power/

A couple things:

1. Windows 10 wasn’t built from the ground up. That’s ridiculous.

2. There are ads in the start menu: http://bfy.tw/EYTW
Apple would never do this.

3. Surface tablets download candy crush automatically upon connecting to the internet (bloatware). Again, Apple would never do this.

4. Windows 10 collects a large amount personal data and sends it to Microsoft. This is well known. Goes without saying, but Apple would never do this.

Everything you said is wrong.

1. Yes it was. The kernal is the same and dos, services. This is why Continuum is only on windows 10. It was built to run on phones up to desktops. It had to in order to be able to do that. What’s ridiculous is you think that a older version of windows can be run on phones if what you say is true. Windows 10 on phones is the same as the desktop with a altered GUI.

2. The ads in the start window is on machines that run windows and not machines built by microsoft. The vendor like lenovo, or dell do this. Not microsoft. Buy a surfacebook or surface there are zero ads. No bloatware, ads, trials nothing. Same as Apple. i know i own both. There is a difference between machines built by microsoft and run windows like the surface book 2 and a dell laptop that runs windows. I am sorry if this is hard for you to comprehend. With microsoft they are now controlling everything from the hardware to the software. Same as apple.

Microsoft does not do this. Wrong again.

3.Wrong again. False. I own microsoft hardware. You do not. I see you drink the Apple coolaid. Good for you.

4. Windows collects nothing. False wrong again. When setting up your device it asks you if you would like to share usage information with Microsoft. Exact same as your iphone etc. you can decline.

Its seems all your false points are from a person with zero first hand knowledge of owning zero microsoft hardware. A armchair quarterback if you will. I would never buy a non-microsoft built windows machine as i already stated. If you buy a Lenovo, dell, hp etc what you say is true. But if you buy a Microsoft Surfacebook 2 for example that was built by Microsoft zero of what you say is true. The experience of owning a surface product is very similar to owning a apple product. Zero bloatware, spyware, etc. driver issues etc. Why this is i explained in my other posts. Which you failed to read.

1. What APPLE does do that Microsoft does not is still sell hardware from 2014. The mac mini still has HD5000 graphics. Let that sink in. It was not updated in over 1099 days. As tim cook explained today.

2. Apple constantly sells out dated hardware. In late 2016 the macbook pros debuted with 6th gen CPUs. When 7th gen were available. This year in July they upgraded them to 7th gen when the 8th gen were only six weeks away.

3. Apple added a emoji bar to a pro laptop. Microsoft wouldn’t do that. Instead they give you a usable touch screen. I have zero use for the touchbar on my macbook pro. Actually their macbook pro line there is nothing pro about them. I couldn’t run my business on Apple products. That is how bad they are behind hardware wise.

4. They are planning to sell a Pro imac! Which makes zero sense instead of releasing a updated Macpro. In business you need to be able to fix or upgrade your own machines. How Apple does not get this is beyond my comprehension. That tells me that Apple is not listening to market trends and are out of touch with the realties of users needs.

I own iphones, ipads, apple watch, macbooks so i know and been using apple products for over 20 years. Over the last five i noticed Apples down turn and the change in their philosophy of how they treat their pricing and release their products. Its now a revenue driven company rather than a product driven company. Take away ports to sell you dongles for ports you used to have? Seriously?

Microsoft is like Apple more than Apple. They are product driven. Never in a million years would i think a surfacebook is less buggy and have less problems than my mac. But that is exactly what i got when i purchased surface products for my business.

Well, if your support team had to deal with 1400 trouble tickets a day, you might be in distress as well. :)

To Windows power users who think windows 10 is such a great user experience: I have no doubt that you guys with 10 or 15 years experience can run Windows 10 just fine, though if you’re honest I’m sure you will recall when you’ve spent several hours (or longer) trying to fix a registry problem or some failed update or new driver install (yeah, the restore point rollback didn’t fix anything, per usual) or some other esoteric problem that’s now preventing your computer from booting.

That’s awesome that you can handle your own tech support; how about this: I’ll recommend the surface book to replace his MacBook if I can give my 77 year old Dad your phone number. With Win 10 being so great, I’m sure he’ll have no need to call. :D

Not gonna even read this mess.
