I agree with all that says it doesn't look good. I'll have to find a new hobby now that sitting for hours on end looking at the equipment is not appealing anymore...

I'm slightly disappointed but I'm optimistic for E3. I hope they come out swinging and show it's still a gaming machine primarily.

I'm bet that's the plan. Showing non-gaming stuff at an E3 presser is a sure fire way to get blasted by gamers so they primarily show no-gaming aspects of it today and then primarily show gaming aspects at E3.

PS4 it is... so disappointing, this Xbox One.

What were you expecting exactly??? Xbox live is 100x better then the PSN network and at the end of the day that is the most important feature for online gamers like myself. The One has great hardware specs and a great online service, what more could you want?

Honestly, what they showed today was everything I had hoped for in any future AppleTV project. I even like the interface. I think it works well for the TV. I still think it's a mediocre interface at best for a laptop/tablet...

I agree that they are saving the gaming stuff or E3 which I respect because it means Microsoft isn't trying to do everything in its reveal and will support the industry at E3.

...The third XBOX is the XBOX One. What the heck? I already have an XBOX 1, which I got in 2004. And its controller "pwns" all of the PlayStation controllers.

No manditory xbox live. This console looks cool, but I don't feel like spending another $500 on xbox live over its lifespan.

You get what you pay for, i have a PS3 and a 360 and i will tell you right now that Xbox live is light years ahead of the PSN network. Im more then happy to pay the yearly subscription for a superior service.

Let's be real, just as in the previous generations, they will probably do redesigns of the box itself, especially as the components shrink in size.

That's easy. I'd want the online play to be FREE since it's PEER-TO-PEER.

Just because Microsoft didn't do an "Apple" and make it thin and good looking at the expense of functionality:rolleyes:

But the PlayStation consoles are thinner and play the games just as well, ignoring the crappy controllers and lack of Halo.

I'm really surprised how many people are worried about the appearance of the console..... then I remember it's MacRumors. I really don't care about the appearance of my gaming console. It just sits behind my TV. I don't need to take my Xbox with me to Starbucks like my Macbook Pro to hang out with the other Xbox users and be smug with the PS4 users.

LOL, yeah most Apple users are used to hardware being gimped to have a better looking design that is thinner then ever before. Ill take function over form anyday. Hell my Yamaha AV receiver is a big black box also but it sounds brilliant and that is all that matters.

Firstly only some games are P2P, but you still get the brilliant party chat system that has decent voice quality. The chat in PSN sounds bloody awful.

No the PS3 does not play the games just as well, there are plenty of games that run better on the 360. I have both consoles and use them both on a regular basis.

Oh great, a system that blocks second hand games and seems to be a glorified media hub! No thanks. In fact this is the worst product reveal I've ever seen, so much bad facts leaked after the events by MS execs! Like it needs to be online at least once a day:

http://www.computerandvideogames.co...equire-an-internet-connection-once-every-day/

They have blocked second hand games:

http://kotaku.com/for-everyone-jumping-to-sonys-ps4-ship-sony-have-said-509153636

Oh and lets not forget the controller still uses AA battery's

Oh and you HAVE to have Kinect plugged into to it for it to work:

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/05/21/xbox-one-will-not-function-without-kinect-attached

I WAS looking forward to this, but no. Will wait to see what Sony say about second hand games at E3...

And why is this on MacRumors?

Secondly, you need to look at the Wii U and see how in big trouble Nintendo is. The completely killed a lot of their good will, by going for the same success as the Wii. The truth is that people bought a lot fewer games for their Wii than people did for their PS3 and Xbox. This could mean that Wii was more of a novelty and didnt have the long term fun and good games, that the other two had. Game sales is where the money is made, not in the amount of consoles sold.

I would disagree with this. I would say the Wii had a lot broader appeal. Everyone from snot filled baby to elderly grandma could use the wiimote. But change that to the mess of a thing that is the WiiU controller and no really good launch titles and you have less console sales. Not hard to work that one out.

I would also say the total number of games sold on the Wii was more then the competition even though the average number of games per person was (supposedly as you say) less for the average Wii owner. The WillU is not doing as well cause it killed everything great the Wii did. It's the first Nintendo TV console I have not bought. Simply cause I can't justify it now, given the state of the WiiU. And this is coming from a Nintendo fanboi.

I'm the biggest Apple fan there is, but I truly think there are a lot of butt hurt Apple fanboys in this thread. The new Xbox looks pretty damn good, inside and out. And the technology is fantastic. Apple makes the best phones, tablets, and computers, but they got their butts kicked in the living room, especially with their indefensible delay/refusal to allow apps, etc, for AppleTV. Sure, that may come - but will it be too late?

Leave it to Apple fans to criticize how the box looks. I think it looks pretty nice, not calling attention to itself. What really matters to me is the fact that it's horizontal so I can place it in my existing TV stand and the fact that it will run quiet. Of course Johnny Ive would have put rounded corners everywhere, but who cares.

I can't decide if I like the look of the console or not. But at least it doesn't look like the PS3 when it released (aka a George Foreman grill).

In living color!

Not really. I own both and one thing I learned is never buy a Bethesda game for PS3 unless you want lag and memory leaks

I watched my friend play it for a while on his PS3, and there wasn't any lag.

You know why they call it the Xbox One? Because all you have to do is take one look at it before turning around 360 degrees and walking away.

Geometry fail.

Name (but at least Microsoft consistently use ridiculous names across the board IMHO)

I get to replace my aging XBox 360 again (on my 4th 360 box since release, my original XBox is still working and traveled to the desert with me multiple times since '01)

I'm fairly old school when it comes to console games, I started with an Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, Genesis, NeoGeo, etc.
I just enjoy a good game, a controller in my hand and a TV to stare at.

The other features are gimmicky to me as I would only use them for the first month and eventually forgetting about them.

I don't talk to my TV/Game System... I yell at it when the game doesn't do what I want it to do (this started back with that GD laughing dog in Duck Hunt)

I don't watch NetFlix, or insert any other media player on my XBox.

Just give me a newer Forza, Madden, NCAA Football, and a few other games keep the Kinect in the box and I'll buy it.
