I'm really surprised how many people are worried about the appearance of the console..... then I remember it's MacRumors. I really don't care about the appearance of my gaming console. It just sits behind my TV. I don't need to take my Xbox with me to Starbucks like my Macbook Pro to hang out with the other Xbox users and be smug with the PS4 users.

and once Wii U gets their zelda wind waker remake or other Zelda from the demo it will outsell the competition just like the Wii outsold the competition. I will get a PS4 when they get cheap though :)
LOL, Wii U is nowhere near Wii! Wii was already selling like hotcakes the second it debut, Wii U is, for the lack of a better word, an epic fail!

Half of the people here talking about how bad the Xbox One looks didn't even watch the unveiling, yeah the hardware was a little bigger than expected, but who cares, it's all about the inside and what's it's capable of doing, the graphics blew me away, not to mention how precise Kinect voice and motion was, I can't wait to get my hands on one this holiday season !!!!!

I wish they showed gameplay footage instead of just cutscenes. Someone should have picked up a controller and began playing like a real person, not scripted sequences with slow motion video editing over it.

Things most important to me in order of importance:

1. Used games
2. Console Cost
3. Cost of online play (the reason I don't play online atm)
4. Backwards compatibility (not so important as I can just keep my 360)

Whichever console does these 3/4 things best will be the one I get, as specs seem roughly on par.

(You may have guessed I'm a bit of a cheapskate :D )

kinect will be perfect for people in skin tight clothing! But if you live in a cold climate, forget it :p

Completely agree. It's quite childish really isn't it "haha your console is ugly, mine looks way nicer". Is there a need for a console to look all fancy? I'd rather it be in a generic black box that took a month to design than a fancy curved shiny thing that took a year to design. With a console the priority is performance, not looks.

PS4 wins in terms of power, xbox wins in terms of features (if you don't see them as gimmicks). Wii U announcement was a lot better than both but is hated on.

The Xbox One and PS4 use the exact same CPU and GPU... only real difference is the type of RAM which is a bit faster in the PS4 than Xbox One but same amount. Bottom line is they are so close that all the cross platform games will essentially be identical and the only advantage to PS4 will be with exclusives, but even then it remains to be demonstrated if the consumer will see any real difference.

The PS4 announcement was full of EXTREMELY vague descriptions of media like features which later, and I QUOTE FROM SONY'S CEO, were said to be "aspirational" of what the PS4 "hopes to do, sometime after launch." Needless to say Xbox One DESTROYS the PS4 in terms of non-gaming features, not even close.

The Wii U lacked the power of a Xbox 360 from 7 years ago. The Wii U had no real polished online gaming backbone. The Wii U's tablet doesn't even do multitouch and is gimicky and doesn't work well with the games. EA has dropped all support for the console. They are hardly selling ANY every month anymore. Within 1 year the Wii U won't even be sold anymore... mark my words it is the Dreamcast all over again, but worse.

Microsoft blew it....

This Console is useless outside America, we can't use all that tv stuff.
The games ... Really ? ANOTHER cod , another forza....

GG microsoft , gg

Why? Your cable or satellite box doesn't have HDMI out to feed into the Xbox One?

No reason they can't easily add guide information for providers anywhere in the world.

You'll see that at E3 in a couple of weeks I'd have thought. The announcement today was more for the press than the people watching it.

I just hope that they get Watch_Dogs as a launch game - it looks amazing.

Everyone needs to chill out! Who REALLY cares what design the xbox takes on? It's not really a device you carry around with you to show off. It's a black set-top box that plays games and doubles up as a media hub. I really like it, actually.

This will actually make Apple push forward on their rumored TV device.

Did they show any uses for the now-bundled Kinect other than dance/fitness games?

Still nothing useful in a game?

Ok, so why is it bundled? I don't need to wave my hands for navigating menus.

This. Plus I quite like the look, I think it looks better than the facelift 360.

I normally dislike this kind of post but I think this news takes it a bit far.

Absolute pointless article for this site

Really? The amount of stories about iOS taking over gaming, plus Apple TV and whole media center thing, I think this is pretty relevant. We see stories about Windows, Android etc. all the time. I agree that the site shouldn't be centered around these stories but they're important to cover to show how the tech relates to Apple. I like to have a nice summary post here instead of trawling the internet for unhelpful liveblog feeds etc.

Above all, don't read it if you don't want to.

I honestly dont see how Apple could provide a compelling device now. Lets assume they release a set top box - its still got to communicate with the thousands of other TV systems around the world, so the 'all in one' element cant happen - ever.

Biggest thing Apple could do is alter the distribution architecture of TV programming. Basically doing what Aereo does, except on a large scale.

The real disruption in the TV market will happen when the internet becomes the actual medium for delivering channel content and physical cable becomes outdated. Whoever's able to put the contracts in place will own the TV market for years to come. I know a lot of people here think it's next to impossible or not happening any time soon and after waiting for Apple to pull it off to no avail i pretty much agree. But there's a huge disruption opportunity out there if a company has the clout to pull it off.

All these set top boxes and console hybrids are doing is rearranging the front end - creating new ways to switch between HDMI inputs, integrating second screen tech, using the internet to link to IMDB and stuff like that. All the money though, is in rearranging the back end.

Actually they did. Games will be able to use it along with the controller. An example of raising shields by raising your hands holding the regular controller was mentioned.

No backward compatibility. Already confirmed by The Verge.

XBOX 360 is PPC and the One is x86.
PPC emulation would not produce a quality experience, so they decided against it.

the problem is always the price. including the service you are talking $100 a month even if its almost all on demand.

everyone wants only a small slice of the content library they are interested in and wants everyone else to pay for it
