All in One? I clearly see 2 boxes and a controller?

Minus Ballmer??? can we assume on the way out? :D like we didn't see Forstall? Here's to wishing

OTOH, the TiVo HD has been superseded by the TiVo Premiere, which looks much nicer.

We've got a slightly modified version of the TiVo Premiere software running in the UK via cable provider Virgin Media. I've got 2 of their boxes. Whilst the interface serves its purpose, It feels like its about 10 years old. The beveled gradient buttons/tabs and everything really aren't 'modern' by any standard.

Looks like a solid release. If its $399 it's awesome. $499... eehhh. I'd need to really be into my living room experience to pay that price.

They killed the PS4 so far though... not even close.

So, what does XBox has to do with Macrumors?

It's an Apple competitor in a space that Apple wants to get into and there are almost no Macrumors to report on. We know there will be a 5S and a iPad 5 that looks exaxctly like the Mini. Other than that and the typical annual computer processor upgrades what should Macrumors post about?

I'm talking about the Premiere hardware, which looks much nicer than the HD hardware (I have both). I agree that the SW interface is very dated.

Why is...

...this on MacRumors?

It's not an Apple product...
It's not a Mac...
It's not even a rumor!

It's sad to see a site deviate from its true mission just to get page hits off another technology.

I was honestly impressed by the Xbox demo and wasn't expecting to be. It could be Microsoft's most significant innovation in 10+ years and a very important step forward for the Xbox brand that puts it ahead of Sony/Nintendo by a lot. The TV stuff was exactly how I imaged a potential AppleTV being a "game changer." The multitasking capabilities, while clunky in Windows 8, seem well-suited for a TV/video games. If MS can work out deals with all the major satellite/cable companies to use the Xbox, that will be important (so far we only know Comcast). That said, how seamless it is to use in real life remains to be seen in real world usage. If the exclusives shown at E3 are any good, it'll be quite a send off to the next generation.

PS. The box itself is ugly, but that'll change over the years anyway.

Absolutely fugly design. But, besides that, I was really impressed with the features, UX and speed. I might buy one :) - even if many of the features are really usable only in US (the same goes for Apple TV, but I still find use for it).

I would imagine that it has been posted as it seems to be infringing directly on the current Apple TV and the rumoured iTV.

Guess I'm going to be sticking with Sony and Nintendo this gen. I will get an XboxOne when I decide to change cable provider.

Again the Xbox One has HDMI in so in theory any cable provider will work. It will have an IR blaster to change channels on your providers cable box.

There is no requirement to subscribe to a Microsoft partner to get your TV.

I'm really surprised how many people are worried about the appearance of the console..... then I remember it's an MacRumors.

I agree. I wish people here would quit feeding the stereotype trolls. Anything that is going with my entertainment system needs to be a standard size and shape and mostly black so it can disappear in the cabinet. The controls are all RF so they don't need line of sight.

The only thing that is going to be visible once it is installed is the Kinect.

The Apple TV is $99. And it doesn't require any kind of TV provider.
Thats not really what I was getting at.

A new Apple TV product, would need to offer integration into TV services - without that its still a hobby project with average sales figures. So the price would be more than $99 given that Apple would need licenses or partnerships of some kind with every TV network or TV provider (e.g cable, satellite, terrestrial) across the developed world. They cant/wont launch it if its only usable in the US, as its simply not going to be worth it.

Based on this the bare minimum would be more in the $199 range, with a more realistic price being $399.

Think about the kinds of things this would need to be doing to dominate the market - its not going to be cheap.

Ahh right, apologies I misunderstood.

Well PS4 announcement was unimpressive, Xbox One announcement was basically a new TV announcement with a heavy emphasis on sport. PS4 wins in terms of power, xbox wins in terms of features (if you don't see them as gimmicks). Wii U announcement was a lot better than both but is hated on.

I love the high detail graphics but lets not forget that graphics is not #1 priority in games. That is why 2d indie games sell like hot cakes. Gameplay should always come first and once Wii U gets their zelda wind waker remake or other Zelda from the demo it will outsell the competition just like the Wii outsold the competition. I will get a PS4 when they get cheap though :)

Uh, what? 2D games sell on tablets and phones and no one plays them for hours continuously. That's not what consoles are designed for (sorry about the preposition at the end).

The Wii U is on life support and will continue to limp along unless the big companies develop games for it. Outside of Nintendo's own IP, no one else seems to want to bring their games to the Wii U. The Wii U is a victim of the Wii's success. There are so many Wii's sitting in closets, boxes, and garages. Why get a Wii just to repeat the process?

Whats the iTV? It's certainly not an upcoming Apple product given they are legally not allowed to use that name. ;)

I never get this pricing argument. People spend up to $800 for an iPad and some people get a new one every year. But a $300-500 console that's good for the next half a decade is considered too expensive?
Price depends on who the competitions are and the amount of value (usage) consumers get out of the product.

iPad (which has average selling price of $467, not $800) is a device that an average person uses many hours a day. While competitions generally cost less (e.g., Nexus 7 at $199, Galaxy Tab 8.0 at $399), iPads are priced in the similar ballpark.

If you argue that Xbox and PS should focus only on core gamers, I agree with your pricing logic. But the reality is, Xbox and PS are losing many of the former (less core) gamers to tablets and smartphones. The only way it can regain or at least slow down the migration is to offer stripped down version for much less (essentially competing against Roku and Apple TV).

Since Xbox One essentially has dual personalities (game vs. non gaming experience), I don't see why it couldn't be offered without controller, camera, and Blu-Ray for less.

Part of me is very very excited about the announcement, while the other is left a bit confused.

The box itself looks great. I'm glad that they went with a Blu-Ray drive as well.

I really hope they aren't killing the Xbox's ability to function as a WMC Extender. If it still does that, coupled with the new hardware, I will be on this day one.

I don't want to have to connect a cable box. I want WMC to be my whole home DVR. It works incredibly well, so leave it alone!

Haha. That's just what's its called, though they could well be allowed to call it that in America.

well even if one person enjoys the Wii U it can't be an epic fail. The Wii U is aimed at a different audience, not the CoD FPS lords of the controller.

Well I know 3 people who enjoy Windows 8 and it's been called the epic flop of the year! Side by side with the Wii U, Facebook phone, anything Nokia above $50, and last but not least Blackberry z10!
