Well, i bought the old Xbox 360 2 years ago, but i dont play any games on it anymore. I guess i just prefer to play on the PC instead :), iMac 680MX with bootcamp :)

That statement which they say Xbox One is 4 times quieter is a must have thing, because the 360 can be very loud! and it gets really warm.

I also think the new Xbox looks a lot more cool

Haha. That's just what's its called, though they could well be allowed to call it that in America.

Dont think they could even call it that in America to be honest. ITV has been registered in the US for a long time, and have trademarks in TV/Video/Movie/Advertising. They aren't exactly a company Apple could buy out either. It'd be like trying to buy out Fox.

----------

If I'm going to consider putting one of these in my entertainment center, I want it to look nice.

Then you're in the minority. People dont generally go out and pick a cable provider to see which one has the nicest looking box, its about content and features. The same applies here. You wouldn't say 'Oh I'll buy this off-brand console instead, sure it has only 3 games, but it looks sexy'.

I would imagine that it has been posted as it seems to be infringing directly on the current Apple TV and the rumoured iTV.

This.

I didn't watch the live stream but was following it.

I think this is a smart move by Microsoft and something I would've expected from Apple.

It plays games for the gamers and it becomes the media centre for the sitting room, including being able to control live TV.

Here are my thoughts on the TV aspects of Xbox One, probably the most popular 'activity' in the sitting room.

I'm in the UK and TV providers are either Sky, Virgin Media or free-to-air like the BBC, ITV etc.

Sky and the others are never going to give up their monopoly as it sounds like the cable providers won't in the USA.

So what have Microsoft done? They're overlaying content using Xbox. That sounds like a great idea and adds value to TV.

Adding controls through Xbox to control the TV also adds more. Kinect and voice control maybe gimmicky but time will tell us about this.

The sitting room could just have been won IMHO, and the victor was Microsoft.

It looks like my blu ray/receiver. Really uninteresting.

..because a rectangular black box with a BD slit and a bunch of ports/buttons is practically oozing with "interesting"

Honestly, what miracles do people expect of the box design? It's all about functionality and user experience at this point.

It's an Apple competitor in a space that Apple wants to get into and there are almost no Macrumors to report on. We know there will be a 5S and a iPad 5 that looks exaxctly like the Mini. Other than that and the typical annual computer processor upgrades what should Macrumors post about?

So basically, it's a slow news day for Apple, and that is why this thing is on MacRumors front page. Is Apple going to compete in the game console market? Any rumors about that?

Agreed. I want something that will hide in plain sight in the TV cabinet. It does that perfectly.

Yup this is just about as 'good as it gets' in terms of options for unifying TV. Theres no way in hell Sky, Virgin, BBC or the BT Vision thingie will ever give up the monopolies they have.

I am hoping that they are literally taking TV input into the Xbox, and spitting it back out with Xbox OS overlaid - that way it wont be limited to supported set-top boxes. I assume they must also be pulling public tv listing feeds to get info on whats being watched. Not really sure how they will work around things like changing station as the only way to control that would be via an IR output from the xbox, pointing at your set top box.

Ah, I see. So you have performed the market research required to determine what sort of devices the majority vs. minority want? Interesting.

I don't see any reason why a device shouldn't both look nice *and* provide the content that I want. The Apple TV does - why would I expect less from another vendor?

Who cares how it looks so long as it performs well and no more red ring of death. Yes it is a big black box but so is my receiver and ugly cable box. Thank the gods they did not go the same design route as Slingbox.

I guess is it time to move the old one upstairs and make room for the new one. I am looking forward to checking it out at this year's E3.

This looks bigger than the previous one and is downright ugly IMO.

Couple that with pre-own fees for games and it's starting to look like a bad deal.

Nintendo appears to be winning this generation, so far...

Microsoft seems divided. The guys at xbox have made a stunning console with some great features, yet the guys who make Windows have made a shoddy product.

Correction... Its been a slow news year for Apple.

You're joking, right?

The Xbox has Live, the great tv integration, and updated kinect. I guess it ultimately comes down to the types of games you play, but to me its no contest based on both unveilings so far.

Xbox is less and less about games. It seems like a system for people with ADD. I own a PS3 and a 360. I not sure I see myself buying the One.

Who cares if its not ALL about games if it still provides a powerhouse gaming experience while giving more features as well? Anyways, I'm more excited about the media features than the gaming features.

The demo WOW'd me.

The voice control looked fantastic and snappy, tv overlays, fantasy sports and stats, and pin the browser to the right while still watching live action TV. The kinect sensor looks pretty impressive too.

COD: Ghosts! I'd buy the system just for that. The comparison to MW3 was night and day. Im hoping its only $499, but i'll be buying this on day 1. I cannot wait!

I agree it does look hideous, but it will be hidden away beneath the projector.

Are you kidding me?! You thought Ghosts looked good? It looked like last gen! My god that presentation was far from what gamers would have wanted. I thought the OS looked fine, but I was far away from impressed with the demos.

I understand that Xbox is simply not a gaming console anymore, it's supposed to be the center of your living room. The ultimate multimedia device. But I'm in no need for that, especially when we nowadays are moving away from TV, which ironically seemed to be where Microsoft really put their money on.

Ghosts looked amazing not good especially in the side by side comparison to MW3. Now I am not a PC gamer and I understand how consoles will always be behind that but I am impressed with what I saw today.

What's your source? The official FAQ says "We are designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games" which while not an absolute "yes it plays used games" statement does seem to be a step in the right direction.

Games are tied to your Xbox Live account and you have to pay a fee for them to usable on other accounts, but this feature is at the developers discretion.

In other words, no used games and MS has shifted the blame to the developers.
