Lots of folks here justifying their purchase of 8/8Plus and are glad to skip the X, and are now supposedly after iPhone XI. hmm.
Sure. I mean it couldn't be that there are people who expect Apple would hit it out of the park with the X but are now concerned about usable screen size, Face ID, or the "ears."

As for me, it will either be the X or nothing (from Apple). I have no interest in the 8/8+.

(Oh god I hope no one brings this up should I get an 8+ to go with an Apple Watch 3. :) )

Mike

Glad I decided to wait until 2018 for the XI, and upgraded to the 8 Plus... I can enjoy all the A11 Bionic loveliness now.

XI? I really hope Apple doesn't stick with Roman numerals for naming and that the X is just a one off thing. If they do keep the numerals, then the jokes around the iPhone 30 would be unbearable.

To me it looks more to off shelf iPhone 8 as its not selling. Delay iPhone X so that stupid people buy iPhone 8. Good move but not so good!

Your analogy isn't logical and it doesn't make anyone "Stupid.". Two separate phone categories for two Separate users. The iPhone 8 is primarily an upgrade for those coming from anything under the iPhone 7. I would say the majority of iPhone 8 users have no interest in Face ID and the price point. There are many who are weary of Face ID yet and prefer Touch ID, but the iPhone 8 is still an upgrade in many ways for older iPhone users.

Furthermore, the iPhone 8 over a longer duration will easily outsell iPhone X due to availability and price point. So it will sell regardless of what you believe.

You might be waiting, awhile. I'm with Marco on this one, that controversial yet tech-packed notch is going to make the iPhone look iconic and unmistakably an iPhone from 30 feet away, instead of an anonymous Android.

I don’t agree with Marco at times but he’s right about the notch looking iconic and fresh so I definitely agree.

Also, just looking at the new Pixel 2 and seeing the software buttons on the bottom make it look outdated compared to iPhone X’s gesture based UI.

Pre-orders (5-10 minutes in) should be fine. It's those that order later in the day that will be pushed out.

I think closer to 30 minutes before certain models/configs start to sell out. Based on the 12m numbers in that last leak I think that people who order at midnight will get their phone in a week easily.

I hadn't heard about the 12M leak, but that's good to hear. Basically it'll only be an issue for the people who aren't ordering right at midnight.

They never should have shown the x until it was ready to be shipped by millions. If it is a 2018 phone, show it in 2018. Now you killed all iPhone 8 sales...

Exactly! I see Macrumors has people with brain and intelligent. Perhaps this is move for apple to take offshelf iPhone 8 as its just a phone with lot of innovation went in Emoji and forgot to innovate real phone! Just idiots

Just wait for the iphone 9 next year with the ips japan display lcd with smaller bezels and the new aspect ratio, with a lot of elements of the iphone x at iphone 8 prices, or the iphone XS or iphone XS plus next year with better oled displays.

At least that is my guess where things are going.

My guess is iphone 9: 5,28 and 6,0 inch lcd
Iphone XS at 5,85 and 6,46 inch oled.
And perhaps an updated SE.

A 5.28 inch screen with the 18:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels would pretty much be the updated SE. It might be slightly taller but it would be about the same width. If Apple makes that they would almost certainly kill off any development the 4 inch 16:9 LCD SE.

You forgot one more thing i.e. Emoji innovation packed in tiny iPhone

For whatever it is worth, count me among those disappointed with the iPhone X. I have nothing original to add, other than in addition to the notch being a mistake, so are the rounded corners on the screen. What good is "edge-to-edge- screen if so much of it is off limits?

The notch exists to make as little of the screen off limits as possible...

Only Apple could put the tenth anniversary model in the public's hands in the eleventh year of release.
Exactly, and now trying to convince us thru someone like Kuo that next year is when the super cycle is to happen. Couldn't manage to put out anniversary edition that they were supposedly working on for years. Apple just about all in on iOS and devices and going to blow it.

Yeah, i just searched dimensions.
So a 5.28 ips lcd se with the new aspect ratio in the same body as the se with an a11.

I'm glad I upgraded to the iPhone 8+. I will not be buying another iPhone until they remove the notch.
Would you rather have had them cut the screen so that it ran under the bezel as a straight line ? Doable.
I'm guessing they'll have to include a "iPhone legacy perfectly rectangular screen" mode for haters.

It's looking more and more like I will continue with my 7Plus for another year. Apple may actually save me money with this phone rollout.

The rounded corners on the screen don't bother me, but, Apple having limited the small phones from having their best cameras, does bother me.

With the exception of screens between models, I am happy that Google put the screws to Apple, putting identical features in both models of their Pixel. REALLY hoping Apple follows suit and offers their customers future phones with identical features in all sizes.

Only time will tell.
I am afraid that "time will tell" -- but not what you are hoping for.

My reason? Cook is a bean-counter at heart.

I have a picture of him (maybe a farcical view) hunched over, reviewing each individual component of the iPhone and looking for ways to extract maximum profit by either down-grading or up-selling.

Next year's XI will remove The Notch, and it will go down in Apple's history as one of their crazy design mistakes. In a few years, developers get sick of customizing things for The Notch and anybody with that phone will always have an awkwardness at one end of the screen.

And people will complain about their phone having no external sensors whatsoever.

Hard to fathom how much negative inertia Apple has developed as the company has grown. Given this "future design" has been on the table for at least couple of years, yet they still cannot get it together in design, testing and production schedules.

The more disturbing thing to me is Apple has fallen further and further behind their competitors the past 4 or 5 cycles. Given the financial success of iPhone and revenues it has generated, one would think they would be motivated for continued innovation in the space. Unfortunately that is not the case. As an example, Siri AI has grown very little since the 4S release and competitors have enjoyed significant AI growth with their products.

What looks like a "hit it out of the park" design with iPhone X will actually take 2 full cycles to deliver them to the market place in sufficient quantity. As a stockholder, I find this very DISAPPOINTING.

For me waiting for iPhone X-S or 11 or what ever they call it and an Apple iPhone 8 lease made the most sense. Apple supply chain can meet demand and it gives sufficient time for testing in the field to improve/refine the X design.

YMMV.

Apple should know there is no "super cycle" it was killed when carriers stopped subsidizing phones and consumers only had to pay 200 bucks. Now people will upgrade when they feel like it. If there is nothing that pleases them they will hold on and wait or find alternatives.

Apple is releasing a limited number of X's this year, enough to get reviews, celebrities and maybe a few common folk.

At 12:01 there will be an 8 week wait, pushing your phone to next year. They never intended to release this phone this year but had to because of their lack of planning and vision. Samsung kicked them in the arse and finally decided to do something but it was too late. They should have just waited until March to unveil this phone.

The Apple hype machine will make people kill each other to get one, lol.
Don’t worry there will be plenty made.

How is it better than the Apple Upgrade program?
Seems worse as Apple's includes applecare in the monthly calculation price.

Actually, according to Apple's own T&C's (check them out, they are published):
  1. AppleCare+ is not a part of the monthly calculations -- and neither are the taxes. Both AC+ and taxes are paid as a lump sum on the first month, together with 1/24th of the financed iPhone; and,
  2. Apple's Upgrade Program is an installment loan, and forces a hard credit check on your credit record (it is a loan).
The alternative cellular provider plans do not -- on either of the two points above.

I particularly never buy phones on credit and pay cash, unlocked -- just my personal choice.

Just making clear the misconception above.
