I am afraid that "time will tell" -- but not what you are hoping for.

My reason? Cook is a bean-counter at heart.

I have a picture of him (maybe a farcical view) hunched over, reviewing each individual component of the iPhone and looking for ways to extract maximum profit by either down-grading or up-selling.
I have no real hopes in this. Love my iPhone 7, and ordered a new pixel for my android needs.

I guess I am looking into the predicted trickle down phones for 2018 with X features.

I think adapew is correct: Fall 2018. Fiscal year 2018 would be designated as FY2018.

yes

most posters are not reading the article correctly.

its not saying anything about a delay involving the X model announced last month.

its saying that the the premium iPhone model that will be announced September 2018 is the model that will prompt a huge number of people to upgrade from prior models.

previously many analysts were saying that the model announced last month would cause that. and they are backtracking on that now. indicating that a more normal number of people will be upgrading this cycle, but not more than usual.

This is part of the reason I decided to upgrade to the 8+. From the looks of it, I suspect that features from the iPhone X will trickle down to the other two models. Could care less for facial ID TBH. If I can have an OLED screen on an 8+ I would be in heaven. Either way, coming from a 6+ to an 8+ is enough of an improvement for me to keep me occupied until next year.

What's 2018F?

Fall 2018

2018 Fiscal Year

2018 fiscal year, as opposed to calendar year.

No it’s “fiscal year”. Fall only exsits in the US.

Actually 2018F is 2018 Forecast.

Does no one here read economic or finance reports? No one in the community uses "fall." Instead, quarters are used, e.g. Q3'18.

(1) TrueDepth Camera's production issues will be significantly addressed in 2018F; (2) new models launched in 2018F will enjoy a longer sales period than those unveiled in 2017;

Those events haven't happened yet and Ming-Chi Kuo is forecasting them.

You might be waiting, awhile. I'm with Marco on this one, that controversial yet tech-packed notch is going to make the iPhone look iconic and unmistakably an iPhone from 30 feet away, instead of an anonymous Android.

ugh Sick of reading this cult iSheep BS saying the notch making it look iconic & distinctively iPhone. As if all previous iPhones weren't glaringly bloody obvious they were iPhones. The notch is NOT iconic, it's just intrusive. To create the notch involves cutting the oled where 50% of early production failed (causing a price hike & one of many component delays connected to the notch) even now they claim 20-25% of screens fail due to the notch. Add in that Apple did a deal w/ Japan Display for new gen LCD's that can't be "notched" & you can see future iPhones will be notch-less. The X is a special edition like the 20th anniversary Mac in 1997 which had a super high price too. The notch is not the future & inflation pending neither is the $1000+ price.

you people who think the notch is ugly or it will go away need to get over it. The notch is never going anywhere within the next 3-5 years. This design has set a precedemt of what all models will look like. Either get over the notch or wait a while. Theyre not going to do a redesign then all of sudden do away with it, apple has never done that
[doublepost=1507310339][/doublepost]only the people on macrumors actually give a **** about the stupid notch or nerds for that matter, most people will not give a **** and thats what apple cares about

Not true. It means fiscal year 2018 which for Apple is October through September

Nope. It stands for forecast.

Fiscal would be FY 2018 or 2018 FY.

The incorrect information being posted is quite disturbing. It really shows the lack of basic education by some posters.

interesting. first time i hear this. it shed a very different light on the possible next phones batch next year. didn't realize the notch is even harder to manufacture. you sure 'baut dat?

I think a better way to look at it is ask if people really like the notch, are they willing to pay extra for it or pay a normal price for a rectangle OLED screen.

And then some are "super cycling" to another platform that doesn't have a notch, and does have a headphone jack and fingerprint reader. Will be interesting to see how this plays out from the sidelines this round.

Thats true actually for people that upgrade every year. I'll be keeping the 10 for 3 years most likely so doesn't matter for me.

If you're keeping the phone for three years it is more to your advantage to wait a couple months to get the x+1 version.

If there are significant delays on orders in the magnitude of months then you have to question wtf Apple have been doing all this time. We are talking about the richest tech company.

I keep saying to myself 'get a used 7+ and wait it out, let them get the gen 2 FaceID in there'.

Then I see that pic of the white/silver X and I just start drooling...

Bit extreme. Don’t know about finance so you’re an idiot? Don’t bust your ass when you fall off your high-horse.

So there is gonna be an updated X in the beginning of 2018? I'm confused. Like a plus size or a new color or what?

Making me second guess if I should preorder later this month

Next year's XI will remove The Notch, and it will go down in Apple's history as one of their crazy design mistakes. In a few years, developers get sick of customizing things for The Notch and anybody with that phone will always have an awkwardness at one end of the screen.
I doubt that notch will go away. Apple will try to use that design for at least one more year, if not longer. If they did remove it, it would be an indirect acknowledgment that it was a bad looking design.
